Chapter 73 A Threat
and Luna separated to hide, with Luna taking cover in the thicket, while Lukas concealed himself in the conservatory.
Having hidden for what felt like an eternity, Luna, bored and restless, quietly emerged from the thicket. She decided to seek out Lukas for a rendezvous.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she stepped out, she saw two people standing by the window of the conservatory. It was none other than Fergus and Lukas..
She was unaware of what their conversation entailed when, suddenly, Fergus pushed Lukas down.
Startled, Luna let out a piercing scream, while Fergus had run off, disappearing without a
trace.
“I truly didn’t lie. It was indeed the naughty Fergus who pushed Luke down…” As she talked, Luna felt wronged and was again on the verge of tears.
Cynthia quickly kissed the top of Luna’s head. “I believe that you aren’t a child who lies. The surveillance cameras will surely prove that what you said is the truth.”
Luna then asked softly, “Really?”
Cynthia nodded solemnly. “Yes.”
As Cynthia and Luna bantered back and forth, a thought suddenly struck Colton. Perhaps. having a daughter wouldn’t be so bad after all.
The thought of her tenderly calling him “Daddy” brought a slight smile to Colton’s lips.
At this point, the hospital director, Arthur Collings, had also hurried over.
With a respectful demeanor, Arthur said to Colton, “Mr. Zeller, the young one’s injuries are no longer life–threatening. However, there has been a slight case of excessive blood loss that requires a blood transfusion.”
A sudden change washed over Cynthia’s face when she heard about the blood transfusion treatment. Right then, a troubling thought crossed her mind.
“Mr. Collings,” she said as she lifted her gaze to meet his. “I understand that arranging a blood transfusion for a child can be complicated, but I implore you to spare no effort in making it happen.”
Her expression was solemn, causing Arthur to falter. The words he had intended to say were

Interrupted by her.
Immediately after, Cynthia looked at Colton with a calm expression. “I think I might have left my phone in your car. Could you please fetch it for me?”
For the first time in a long while, Cynthia spoke to Colton in a gentle voice.
Colton agreed, casting a glance at Luna, who was cradled in Cynthia’s arms.
After Colton left, Cynthia turned to Arthur, enunciating, “If I remember correctly, you’ve been working at this hospital for nearly a decade now, haven’t you? It seems the deputy director has been gaining a lot of attention lately.”
The color of Arthur’s face changed instantly.
Recently, there were some minor conflicts within the hospital’s management. The deputy director, who seemed to have made some influential connections from somewhere, was starting to stir things up.
Arthur didn’t want to sit still and await his fate, which was why he personally came out to welcome Colton. However, he didn’t realize that his careful plans were seen through. completely by Cynthia.
“I can assure you that your position will remain secure. However, I don’t want any of the child’s medical information to be leaked. Do you understand?” Cynthia’s piercing gaze made Arthur shudder.
He gave a wry smile, his words laced with a hint of probing. “The hospital is, after all, the Zeller family’s. Ms. Shelley, since you’ve already said so…”
Cynthia offered a faint smile. “Choosing to collaborate with me doesn’t guarantee success. But refusing to do so ensures failure.”
That was a blatant threat. The color drained from Arthur’s face. He was about to retort when Cynthia continued in a calm and unhurried tone, “After all, I am one of the hospital’s shareholders.”
This statement completely eliminated any doubts in Arthur’s mind. Gritting his teeth, he decided to take a gamble.
He nodded solemnly. “Hospitals are inherently meant to protect patient confidentiality. We will naturally fulfill our responsibilities.”
After the two had reached an agreement, Colton had already returned with Cynthia’s phone in hand.
“What are you guys up to?” he asked.

Colton’s piercing gaze swept over the two of them. He had been asked to retrieve a phone, a request he found odd. Yet, to his surprise, he really did replace a phone in the car.
Cynthia’s gaze fell on the phone in Colton’s hand. It was beneficial that she had left her phone in his car as soon as she got in.
“I was discussing the child’s situation with Ms. Shelley,” Arthur said, his demeanor remarkably calm during this critical moment, swiftly replaceing an excuse.
