Chapter 58: Asher’s Aid
1/4
“Wasn’t the meal I brought you last time to your taste? Why is Michael still having dinner with other women?” Chloe asked.
Everyone could tell she was deliberately targeting Lucy.
Before she showed up, the employees had no clue Michael was married. They all thought he and Lucy made a perfect pair.
Everyone thought Lucy was Michael’s girlfriend, and she didn’t deny it.
Lucy froze when she saw Chloe.
Though she looked a bit embarrassed, Lucy managed a smile and said, “Chloe, you’ve got it all wrong. I usually have lunch with Michael, and people just like to tease us about it.”
“Even if others don’t know he’s married, you sure do. Or do you just enjoy having dinner with your sister’s husband?” Chloe sneered, not giving Lucy an ounce of respect.
Lucy’s hands clenched and unclenched at her sides.
“Chloe, that’s not what I meant. If it makes you uncomfortable, I won’t have dinner with Michael anymore. I don’t want to ruin your relationship with him because of me.” Lucy pretended to be generous as always, but kept hinting that Chloe was being
unreasonable.

She thought everyone would have her back like before.
She didn’t expect everyone to look at her so strangely.
Everyone at the office knew Lucy was always hanging around Michael.
Lucy always called Michael by his first name, keeping things personal and close.
But Michael had a wife. Lucy’s cozy way of addressing him made the employees think they were a couple.
If Lucy really thought it was wrong, she wouldn’t be apologizing while still calling Michael’s name so intimately.
Chloe crossed her arms and shot Lucy a mocking look. “Alright, I’ve pointed out the flaws in your design. Whether you fix them. or not is up to you.”
“Whatever, it’s not her company anyway,” Lucy thought, her words casual but cutting. The room buzzed with skepticism, eyes narrowing at her. Lucy’s smile wavered, her nails digging into her palm. “Chloe, if you have an issue with me, fine. But questioning the blueprints? You’re not an expert. Stay out of it.”
“These blueprints are our blood, sweat, and tears. If our partner isn’t happy, it could cost us big time. Sorry, but I can’t let you mess with us on this,” Lucy said.
Chloe glanced back and couldn’t help but chuckle.

“It’s up to you whether you take my advice or not,” she said.

Chloe waved her hand dismissively, not bothering to glance at the blueprint.
Asher stepped forward from the crowd, trying to calm things down. “Alright, alright, Lucy. Chloe had a point with her question. She’s not trying to stir up trouble. Everyone makes mistakes, it’s no big deal.”
Lucy stared at him in disbelief.
“He’s actually siding with Chloe?” she thought.
Asher glanced at Chloe, feeling his opinion of her improve.
Back then, she used her close relationship with Admas to force Michael into marrying her. As Michael’s good friend, he naturally despised her for it.
Over the years, though he rarely saw Chloe, he always thought of her as just a plain, useless girl.
It all changed for Asher that night at the bar. Watching her dance on stage, boldly standing up to Michael, he saw her in a whole new light.
She effortlessly spotted the flaw in their blueprints, proving her exceptional skills!
Chloe glanced at Asher. She remembered him.

Last time at the bar, he was right there with Michael.

So, basically, these guys hang out with Michael and Lucy all the time.
No wonder Michael’s friends didn’t like Chloe a few years back.
They’ve always been around the sweet and kind Lucy, so there’s no way they like Chloe.
But today, Asher’s attitude towards her was different!
Chloe glanced at him a few times, noticing his constant grin directed at her. It was kind of creepy.
“I’m here to see Michael today,” she said.
