Chapter 89: Cyberbullying

Quinn gave a gentle smile, “You head back. I’ll grab a cab.”

“Thanks a ton for hooking me up with today’s order! Fingers crossed this project wraps up smoothly!”

She actually wanted to discuss more about the order with him, but it looks like they’ll have to save it for next time.

Just then, her phone buzzed with another message from Michael. He’d listed the exact restaurant and dishes he wanted.

It was dinner rush hour, and the restaurant he picked usually had long lines.

Chloe sighed. She couldn’t afford to wait any longer. Hailing a cab at the corner, she quickly left.

Quinn watched her walk away, a deep look on his face. Something felt off in his chest.

Does she still have feelings for Michael?

But with his current status, he had no right to question her.

When Chloe returned to Lotus Manor with Michael’s favorite food, she was already past his deadline.

Lotus Manor sat on the couch, radiating an icy aura.

“You’re forty minutes late.”

Chloe sighed and dropped the takeout on the table.

“By the time you texted me, the wait at the restaurant was already over half an hour. I had a reservation and still waited another fifteen minutes when I got there.”

If he hadn’t insisted on that restaurant, she’d have been home ages ago.

After hearing her explanation, Michael didn’t say anything, but his expression softened a bit.

“Are you gonna eat now?”

Chloe knew it was best not to push his buttons any further.

Michael stood up from the couch, his voice icy as he responded.

Chloe rolled her eyes. This jerk was impossible to please. Once the divorce was final, she was done with him for good.

She saw him sitting at the dining table and turned to head upstairs.

She had barely taken two steps when Michael’s phone rang.

“Hello?”

Her phone’s volume was cranked up so high, she could hear it

loud and clear.

“Michael, I’m really stuck here. That’s the only reason I’m calling you. Please don’t be mad at me. I know I shouldn’t be reaching out right now.”

Michael heard Lucy’s sobs. His brow furrowed instinctively.

“What’s up with you?”

Lucy sobbed a bit. Then she said everyone in the Paramount Airlines work chat was badmouthing her. Trying to explain herself alone was useless.

Work group chat?

Michael hung up the phone and opened the Paramount Airlines group chat. Everyone was buzzing about Lucy.

Hundreds of unread messages flooded his phone.

He quickly swiped through his phone, skimming the content.

They’re all saying Lucy is the homewrecker. Rumor has it she was flirting with him at work, his wife caught them, and that’s why his marriage is falling apart.

Lucy’s explanations got buried under hundreds of messages.

You claim you’re not the homewrecker, yet everyone heard you calling Mr. Shawn “Michael” at work. If there’s nothing going on between you two, why the cozy nickname?

“If she tried to seduce my husband, I’d have already stormed into the office and given her a piece of my mind.”

Mr. Shawn’s wife is definitely a classy woman. No way she’d stoop to hitting the other woman.

Lucy explained again, this time sending a voice message.

“Stop with the tears, girl. We’re not men here. If you’re not the other woman, then have Mr. Shawn’s wife clear your name!”

The guys at the office felt a twinge of sympathy after hearing Lucy’s voice message.

But the moment they defended her in the group chat, they got swarmed by other colleagues. The comments just kept getting nastier and nastier.

Lucy hadn’t hung up yet, her sobs barely audible. She

whispered, “Michael. No, Mr. Shawn. Can you explain to Chloe for me and ask her to clear things up?”
