Dr. Luna -
Chapter 27
Lilly narrowed her eyes at Tyler, preparing for her attack when there was a knock on the door.
"Tyler, we have a bit of a situation that you need to deal with." Kade walked in looking slightly stressed. "Cedric had to increase the barrier and because he did it is messing with mind linking and the pack is freaking out because they don't know what is going on. Do we tell them about the barrier? You need to address the pack before there is panic and, unfortunately, you can't just mind link them to do it."
Tyler growled. "Perfect... just perfect. What a mess." He looked a Lilly for a moment, he didn't want to leave things unsettled between them. He really didn't want to fight. He was so frustrated he always ended up acting like a child around her. He sighed disappointed at himself before he stormed out of the room following Kade, leaving Lilly there ready to pop with anger.
Lilly never got the chance to have her rebuttal and her anger was at a boiling point. This was usually the time that Kira would try to claw to the surface. She was surprised to see that wasn't the case. Kira had remained a silent presence, which was normal for all other werewolves, but had never been for Lilly. Maybe it was because she was no longer wearing the necklace or maybe because she was now mated... a combination of both? In either case, she was not having a dominance issue with Kira anymore and it was nice. She decided to go ahead and get ready for this evening. While she was putting her anger aside, for now, it was not forgotten. She pulled out a flowered sundress that had a halter top and came just above the knees. She put it on and then applied her make-up before finally fixing her hair. She continued to keep her hair up, showing off her new mark. The love bites were already gone from her accelerated healing. She spun around in the mirror before she nodded, pleased with her overall appearance. She went downstairs and saw Cedric sitting at the bar with Avery and bounded up to them.
"Toots, you look adorable. I could not think of a more perfect dress for you to wear. You are stunning." Avery gushed over the look of her new Luna; she was the perfect package. She was sweet and fiery. She was beautiful, but not vain. Most of all she was genuine. "Aww, thanks, Avery. You look beautiful too." Lilly loved the cute blue sundress that Avery was wearing as well, and Avery wore it well. "Cedric... I heard... I heard singing earlier and then it disappeared." Lilly was hoping it was a fairy thing and she was not going crazy. "Yeah, I heard them. Bunch of rude inconsiderate nuisances. They couldn't come to see you, so they were calling to you. That's why I had to increase the barrier. I wanted to make sure their sound was also blocked out too. I don't need them waking you up right now." Cedric grumbled as he talked about the pests.
"I'm glad I wasn't hearing things." Lilly giggled as she closed an eye, looking up at Avery.
"Tyler looked extra frustrated. I guess he isn't happy about the interruption with mind linking." Avery rolled her eyes a bit. She took in Lilly's expression showing there was more to it than that. "Or is there trouble in paradise again?"
Lilly snorted and crossed her arms. "Is he always like this? He was angry at me. I guess because I didn't want the pack using wolfsbane to haze anymore. He was rude and... he even was mocking. He has strong werewolf warriors not a bunch of delicate fairies in his pack..."
Cedric scoffed loudly. "This is why fairies stay secretive. Always the misconception about them. Wolves run in a pack, but for the most part, fairies are fairly isolated. They keep to themselves and do their own thing. There are many different wolf packs, but only one fairy kingdom, where all fairies are welcome, provided they aren't malicious. A single guardian could take out five warriors easily. They can definitely overtake a single alpha one-on-one. The werewolves are strong only because of the numbers in their pack. If fairies banded together and all united in a fight... it would not be good. All the werewolf packs would have to unite to be able to fight on par. But fairies are the delicate ones... smh."
"Wow, I never realized any of that. To be honest, I thought that fairies were rare." Avery did not know anything about fairies either, did anyone? In her eyes they were smart. They knew about everyone else, but no one knew about them.
"So can all fairies make a barrier or is it something only you can do?" Lilly was curious about fairies and their abilities. So far, she had not discovered hers, but she guessed it was because she had not awakened.
"It isn't exclusive to me, but only a few fairies have the ability to make barriers. I can make different types of barriers, depending on the type depends on how large I can make them, and for how long. That's a fairy secret though." Cedric looked up at Avery who motioned the locked lips and threw away the key.
Avery looked over at Lilly and could see that she was a bit upset over Tyler. "Don't let him bother you toots. He has always been moody and can be childish. But things got worse, a few years ago... there was a major fight with our pack and another." Lilly nodded to her as she remembered hearing about it. "Well, he lost his parents then and some members of our pack... some that were very close to him." Avery paused for a moment in thought. "Since then, he has made sure he keeps his pack extra tough and fit for fighting. We have always been a formidable pack, but we have grown even stronger under his guidance. I am not making excuses for how he is, because you are wonderful and deserve to be respected and well-loved, but just some insight to why he acts the way he does sometimes. Having said that, give him hell when he deserves it. He needs someone like you by his side to help keep him in check." Avery winked at Lilly, who nodded to her in appreciation.
Lilly could understand all of that. As his Luna, he needed to respect her and see where she was coming from. Taking away wolfbane from hazing was not going to make his pack weaker. Him getting angry over it made her feel like she did not have a say, even as his mate and their Luna. It was frustrating and his reaction was hurtful. She was not about to lay in bed and cry about how he had reacted though. She was not, nor had she ever been, the little girl who had hidden in a corner and cried waiting for her white knight to come and save her. She may get hurt and brought to her knees every now and then, but where she is different is that she will rise up again, even if no one is there to help her up, she will rise on her own.
There was a strength inside of Lilly. She had always had that strength. She was traumatized as a child from her mother's death, but she still went on and became a doctor at a young age. She was a leader and a fighter. She could feel her strength bubbling inside of her. She was still new to this pack and new to Tyler. There would be some adjustments and fighting in order to establish their positions. Lilly was not going to lose who she was in the shadow of the Alpha, even if he was her mate.
"I can smell the pig roasting and it is making my mouth water. Let's see if we can steal a few snacks from the buffet spread they have out back." Cedric looked hopefully at the two girls for some partners in crime. He would replace no objection from them; they were all in for it.
"Do we really need to sneak though? I mean, who is going to tell the Luna... no?" Avery giggled as they walked around to the back of the house.
There were tables among tables set up in the back that were all covered with food. Behind that was a large pavilion with tables and chairs to accommodate the whole pack. And in the middle of it all were two large roasters, smoking whole pigs. The pavilion was decorated with Lilly flowers and had small strands of lights running throughout the inside. No one had ever thrown this large of a party for Lilly, but this party was not just for her. It was a party for the pack replaceing their Luna, and their Alpha replaceing his mate. Still, it felt welcoming to see all the efforts being made.
"Okay, the goal is to steal a few shish kabobs from that tray over there." Cedric pointed to the far table located near the wood line.
"Can't we just walk up and take some? Do we really need to sneak?" Lilly was secretly excited feeling like a little kid about to get into mischief.
"Focus Lilly. You go and draw the attention to yourself and Avery will grab the food. I'll be the look out." Cedric laid out his plan and watched as they began to execute it.
Avery rolled her eyes and giggled but was happy to play along. She watched as Lilly walked out towards the pavilion. The staff was curiously watching her seeking her approval. While they were not paying attention, Avery acquired the target food and escaped into the woods.
Cedric and Lilly soon joined up with Avery and the victors split the spoils. Cedric bit into the food and closed his eyes in appreciation. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection.
"Hey, Cedric, what exactly are guardians? Are they like a monster fairy?" Lilly was curious. He has mentioned guardians and their strength but as usual, had been very vague.
Cedric finished his kabob and then looked at Lilly before glancing over at Avery. It was clear he did not want to talk about it in front of her.
"These are things that are usually only discussed among fairies." Cedric frowned a bit trying to decide what to say.
"Well, doesn't it change things since I am also part werewolf? Do we not have an obligation to our pack? Where do your loyalties lie?" Lilly could sense that Cedric did not necessarily hold his loyalties with his pack.
Cedric smirked and then shrugged. "I wonder... some things will have to come into light though, especially since you are mated with the Alpha of this pack. You are an anomaly, Lilly."
"My mother was with an Alpha too." Lilly wondered how she was an anomaly.
"She was also very different, but you are the first. You are the first Alpha and fairy born. You are more special than you know. Soon, you are going to realize how special you are." Cedric smiled at her and then shrugged. "Since you are asking, I will tell you just a few things. Guardians are not fairies. In fact, out of their species, only three are elected to be guardians. They must undergo serious training. They are colossal in every way, unmatched in strength. Their species are tied to the fairies in an unbreakable bond. The guardians... well that's enough information on that topic for now." Cedric looked up as the pack members began filling in the pavilion in the distance. "We should probably join the party."
Lilly smiled as she walked between Avery and Cedric. She felt like she had formed a type of kinship with the two of them. She trusted them and that was an important step for Lilly. Lilly stopped moving as she heard Kira growl in her head. She already knew what she was growling at. Standing at the edge of the pack house was Jessica. She wore an extremely short black dress that belonged in a club setting instead of an outdoor barbeque.
"Ugh, I wish Tyler would just banish her already... did he even talk to her about what she did?" Avery looked at Lilly who shook her head.
"I don't think so, he has been with me until just a few moments ago." Lilly knew she was waiting for Tyler. Though after last night she did not think she had to worry about Jessica anymore. After all, she was the one baring Tyler's mark, not her. She walked through the pavilion nodding to her new pack members with Avery and Cedric by her side.
She talked with her new pack and was able to see Lonnie, who was now fully recovered and looking much better. He thanked her for all of her help and was quite smitten with his new Luna, a fact that Cedric and Avery didn't miss. He more than once eyed her over and was flirting with her.
The sounds of numerous whispers of pack members gossiping were heard behind Lilly and she turned to see what they were talking about. Oh, HELL NO.
