Dr. Luna -
Chapter 42
"When have I ever given our pack any reason to doubt my loyalties? Am I loyal to my mate? Absolutely. This is not an either-or situation. I am loyal to my pack, to Lilly and to the fairies." Tyler then looked at her darkly. He did the best he could to do right by Cody, but Jessica was digging her own grave at this point. "You've changed! Everyone can see it. You have changed so much since she came. You aren't even the same Alpha anymore. How are we to know who's side you are really on?" Jessica's snotty voice rang out. The other pack members were noticeably getting irritated with her. She was talking nonsense.
"Of course, I have changed. I am happy now. I have never been this happy in my entire life. That's hardly anything to blame my loyalties on." Tyler chuckled as he squeezed Lilly closer into his side. "I haven't just changed because of my happiness though." Tyler looked down at Lilly who looked up at him curiously waiting for him to continue. "This is the first time in my life that I have ever been in love. Lilly is not just my perfect mate; she is the woman I love." He stared deep into her emerald eyes as he watched them water in response to his statement. He wanted everyone to know just how important she was to him. And after everything he had put her through, he wanted to make his declaration of love a public one. The sounds of small cheers and claps were heard throughout the pack. He bent his head down and leaned in and kissed her openly in front of everyone. He pulled slightly away from her and then whispered into her lips. "I love you Lilly."
"I love you too." Lilly blushed slightly as she said the words that have been etched on her heart but never said. Falling so fast and so hard was only natural for mates to do. He was her important irreplaceable someone.
"You're just lying to yourself! You were in love with me too." Jessica spat out bitterly interrupting the tender moment. "My brother would be so upset to see how I am being treated now."
What a b***h. There was a bit of hurt that reflected in Tyler's eyes that quickly vanished as he pushed it aside. She pulled the brother card, knowing it was a sensitive issue with Tyler. It was how she always got her way. She even used that as the reason for Tyler to take her to the dance. She told him if her brother was alive, he would take her so she wouldn't be alone. It is quite obvious that Jessica has never been a good person which is probably why her brother had worried about her so much. He knew that she was heading down a bad path. Lilly had enough. The pack worked as a well-oiled unit to stay strong. They did not need a bad egg ruining everything and constantly causing conflict.
"Jessica, you think you should be the one standing here as Luna?" Lilly's eyes bore into Jessica's as her voice sounded with clarity and authority.
"Yes, I do." Jessica's voice dripped with bratty defiance.
"Then take it. If you can. You want my spot then come and claim it." Lilly openly challenged Jessica. If she wanted the spot for Luna, then she would have to fight Lilly for it. "Lilly, no. This isn't necessary. I only accept -"
Lilly smiled and raised her fingers up to Tyler's lips. We can't keep doing this Tyler. She needs to accept her position or leave. If she wants to fight for it then let her. She can't beat me. I can't promise you she will live through it though. Kira has been wanting her dead since day one.
Tyler sighed as he stared into Lilly's eyes. He would rather just kick Jessica out. She wasn't worth even the slightest possibility of Lilly getting hurt. However, this was Lilly's first call as a leader and he would support her. To show the pack he believed in her. "What do you want to do Jessica? Will you accept your role in this pack? Do you wish to leave the pack? Or are you going to challenge YOUR Luna? Know that there is no guarantee you will make it out alive." Tyler turned to Jessica and watched her curl her lips up in disgust.
"You make it like she is so strong that I can't possibly win." Jessica folded her arms and stared at Lilly challengingly.
Kira growled in Lilly's head. She was more than ready to accept that challenge. "What is your decision? I will be fair. I will let you see what you are up against first. After all, I don't want anyone to accuse me of not being fair and not giving you the chance to back down." Lilly smirked as she stared at Jessica. Lilly could hear Avery chirping to Caleb in excitement, she had never seen Lilly's wolf before.
"I just want to add that as the packs beta, I would not challenge Lilly to a duel. So take that as your warning Jessica." Kade spoke up loudly. What he admitted sent hushed whispers among the pack members. Kade was their second in command and if he would not fight Lilly, then she had to be very powerful.
Jessica scoffed. "You've never liked me. Of course, you are trying to scare me off."
Lilly really couldn't wait to put Jessica in her place. However, it was going to be like an adult beating up a child. Where was the sport in that?
"Lilly..." Tristan spoke up quietly as he walked up behind her. "You fighting... it's going to draw attention to you." He looked over at Tyler and frowned. "It's going to attract the wrong kind of attention."
"Tristan, I can't hide and hope I am never found. I have a job to do, too. I am not afraid. I'm going to live my life. Besides, I have you and Tyler by my side, what is there to ever worry about." Lilly winked at Tristan who grunted and rolled his eyes. "You can't compare me with your royal mutt." Tristan smirked at Tyler who chuckled in response.
"Look, you might be tougher than me, but I would definitely make you think twice before engaging with me in a real battle." Tyler watched Tristan laugh but nod in agreement. No one wants to willingly engage in a tough fight, even if they know they will probably win. "Aww is your protector there worried about you fighting?" Jessica hissed out trying to poke at the coals.
Tristan chuckled; his eyes turned dark as he stared at the pathetic creature. "You are not even close to being a worthy opponent for my princess. Do you not have any self-preservation? If you fight against her it is a suicide mission."
Lilly took a step forward. It was time to show the whole pack exactly what Lilly's wolf looked like. The sound of clothes ripping was heard and in an instant a giant wolf with shiny dark fur stood there looking out over her pack. She turned her focus to Jessica and rested her gaze on her. The ball was now in Jessica's court. If she still insisted on fighting, then she would gladly oblige her.
"Awe you're like a big fluffy teddy bear!" Avery chirped as she looked at Kira in amazement. She thought her wolf was gorgeous, she was always so proud to have Lilly as their Luna.
Tyler reached out and stroked Kira's dark fur before he playfully tussled her head around. "Now isn't this the cutest puppy you've ever seen?" Kira wagged her tail and licked up at his face. She leaned her body into his and he chuckled as he continued to scratch her head. "You're a big puppy." He said as he supported her weight. "Your fur is so soft."
"Let me feel." Tristan reached out and touched the fur on her head. It was indeed very soft. Tyler furrowed his brows and swatted Tristan's hand away. She was his to touch and pet.
Okay guys, I'm not your pet to fight over. If you want a puppy, then let's go get a puppy. Lilly mind linked both guys, as Kira ate up the attention, though deep down, she was loving the rubs and attention from Tyler.
Seeing the affection between Tyler and Kira immediately relaxed his pack. She might have been a huge wolf, but that didn't change who she was. She was still their Luna. If anything, they were even more excited to see her wolf. Having such a large wolf as your Luna only meant for a stronger pack. In just a short amount of time they had become an incredibly powerful pack. They had the fairy princess and even had a werebear living among them now. Things were definitely looking very good for the Diamond pack. "Just because your wolf is big doesn't mean you know how to fight." Jessica continued to spew venom, though her bottom lip was noticeably quivering. She had no one in her corner to stick up for her. She was standing on her own.
It doesn't have to be this way Jessica. I'd take a moment and really think about what decision you are about to make. I will either kill you or you will be banished. Lilly was being more then accommodating. Even though she hated Jessica, she still had a tender spot for someone who was unwanted. She at least wanted to give her a chance, even if she didn't deserve it. Kira stood staring at Jessica, piercing her with her green gaze.
Jessica stared back at the dark wolf who was watching her intently. She wondered if Lilly even had combat experience besides the little run in she had when she first came there. Jessica had trained with the other she wolves and had fighting skills. Even though the wolf in front of her was large, she was betting she wasn't very experienced and could use that as her advantage. Besides, she hated Lilly. She came there and ruined everything. She was going to be the Luna of the Diamond pack. She was going to be the next in charge and everyone would fawn at her feet. She wanted to fight with Lilly. She wanted to prove just how unfit Lilly was at being the Luna of their pack.
Jessica sneered at the wolf in front of her before effortlessly shifting. Her small brown wolf stood defiantly looking at Kira. It would be a tough battle, but she was determined to pull it off. She would show Tyler that she would be the better Luna.
I've been waiting for this moment for a very long time. Kira couldn't wait to engage in a fight with her. She has it coming but let's not kill her. All things considered; it would still be painful for the pack to see her killed. Lilly planned to stay in joint control, but just in case wanted Kira to know how she felt. Okay, but everything else is fair game. Kira answered as she eyed her prey in front of her.
