Chapter 569 Awkward
“Dulcie, would you like me to be like a mom to you?” Casey gently touched Dulcie’s delicate cheek.
Dulcie blinked and nodded. “Yes, I want Dad to be with you. Is that okay?”
“Well… Dulcie, being an adult is not as simple as it seems. How about we just go to bed?”
Dulcie pouted in disappointment. “I know you don’t like Dad. I mean, he’s so mean…”
“No, I don’t dislike your dad.”
“So, you do like him, right?” Dulcie’s eyes widened in happiness upon hearing that.
Casey smiled helplessly.
Dulcie was a really persistent girl. She must have gotten that trait from that man since Casey wasn’tvery persistent herself.
Morning arrived.
Casey had just intended to help Dulcie fall asleep last night. Unexpectedly, she ended up falling asleepwith Dulcie because she was too tired.
When she woke up, Dulcie was nowhere to be seen.
Where is she?
She immediately sat up, feeling anxious, and hurriedly rushed out of the room. “Penny, where’s Dulcie? Why isn’t she in the room?”
Penny smiled upon seeing Casey’s flustered and worried appearance and replied, “Don’t worry, Dulciehas already been taken to kindergarten by the driver. She specifically told me not to wake you up,
saying she wanted you to sleep a little longer.”
What a considerate child.
Casey immediately calmed down and smiled. She then asked, “And him? Did he already go to work?”
“Yes, he has already gone to work. Would you like some breakfast?”
“No, I should probably head back.” She had initially planned to say that she would go to work too, butshe realized that she no longer had a job.
“Have some breakfast before you leave. No need to rush.” Penny said.
“No, I don’t have an appetite.”
She really couldn’t bear staying here any longer.
Penny suddenly said, “By the way, Miss Bailey called earlier and asked for your contact information. Itold her that you were here and still asleep. She said she will come to talk to you later.”
Casey froze. Amanda wants to come?
Was it still possible to call her back and arrange to meet somewhere else? Well, it was probably toolate; she was already on her way. She should just wait for Amanda, then.
Thirty minutes later, Amanda arrived at Galaxy Bay. The nanny greeted her and opened the door, andshe walked in.
At the moment, Casey was seated on the living room couch. She was waiting for Amanda and givingoff an air as if she were the lady of the house.
“Good morning, Miss Casey,” Amanda greeted in a very professional tone, offering a courteous smile.
Casey felt uneasy, as if she were meeting Amanda at a law firm. She smiled awkwardly. “Can you callme Casey? I’m not used to that formal title.”
“Sure, you can call me by my name too. Let’s keep it casual,” Amanda said as she pulled out herlaptop, preparing to start working.
At this point, Penny brought a cup of tea. “Miss Bailey, would you like some tea?”
“Sure, thank you.”
After Penny left, Amanda and Casey officially started their work.
Amanda asked many professional questions, and Casey answered nervously, unsure if her responseswere correct.
“Casey, don’t be nervous. We can win this. Just don’t let your emotions sway you, and we’ll come outon top.” Amanda’s gaze was determined, her fingers firing away on the laptop keyboard.
Casey felt a surge of confidence upon hearing Amanda’s words. Amanda truly instilled a lot ofconfidence in her. “Thank you, Amanda. Having you here puts my mind at ease.”
“But you mustn’t waver. Honestly, I’ve taken on many cases like this, and a lot of them ended with theother party morally pressuring my clients into giving up.”
“I absolutely won’t. I’ve tolerated them for too long. They caused my mother’s death, and now theywant to take away the shares she left for me. It’s impossible. And my father… he’s beyond saving now.He… I don’t want to talk about him anymore. It’s unbelievable that he would be oblivious to the fact thatthe child born to Eleanor isn’t his. I don’t understand how the paternity test could confirm him as thefather.”
Casey couldn’t fathom this, but it reminded Amanda of something.
Amanda asked, “What did you say? Do you have evidence for this? How do you know the child isn’tyour father’s?”
“I witnessed it firsthand. Eleanor and Peter had dinner with a stranger. Peter even called that man‘Daddy.” Is that plausible? It’s completely irrational!” Casey explained, showing the photo she haddiscreetly taken on her phone to Amanda.
Amanda took a quick look at the phone and frowned. “If the child isn’t your father’s, then the paternity.test results could be fraudulent.”
“Can this be faked too?” Casey was shocked. She truly hadn’t expected that this could be manipulated.
Amanda smiled. “You are too trustworthy. Nowadays, anything can be faked. I’ve fallen for it before. How about this? You help gather items like Peter’s and your father’s toothbrush, and I’ll conduct ananalysis for you. Then, everything will be clear.”
“Okay!”
Just at that moment, a low, echoing sound of footsteps came from behind..
Then, a man’s voice chimed in. “I see an unexpected guest. What brings you here, Amanda?”
Casey was the first to look up when she heard Symeon’s voice, but Amanda didn’t turn around. Sheneatly closed her laptop after finishing typing and stowed it in her bag.
“Casey, let me handle what comes next. Your task now is to gather evidence and avoid direct.communication with the other party. You can call me if your father contacts you again. Don’t reveal toomuch to him to prevent potential secret recordings. I have something else to attend to, so I’ll head out.”
After Amanda finished reminding Casey, she got up and was about to leave. However, she noticedSymeon was standing behind her as she turned around. She nonchalantly explained, “I came todiscuss some matters with Casey. You can ignore me, and I won’t disturb you again. Goodbye.”
As she was about to walk past him, he gripped her slender arm. “I didn’t see you drive here. How doyou plan to get back?”
“I’ll take a cab.”
“It’s not easy to get a cab around here. I happen to be coming back to grab some documents. I cangive you. a lift on the way.”
Amanda considered refusing, but Casey agreed, “Alright, thank you.”
She didn’t know why she agreed. Maybe it was instinct and a desire to return home for a bit.
However, once they were in the car, Casey realized Symeon’s ulterior motive. Suddenly, she felt apang of regret it seemed Amanda probably didn’t want to get in the car.
Amanda sat in the back seat, and there was no conversation between her and Symeon throughout thejourney. Nevertheless, Casey couldn’t help but notice him sneaking occasional glances at Amandathrough the rearview mirror.
