Emma: The Forgotten Luna -
Chapter 49
Emmaline let out a shuddering breath as her body convulsed. Damien ran to hold her but she stopped him by raising her palm. Taking the support of her wall, she took deep breaths, her eyes burning with warm tears.
Damien watched her broken form with sorrowful eyes. He felt like shit at the moment. The girl had to go through so many heartbreaks just because of his stubbornness or rather he should term it as his selfish and stupid wishes.
He doesn’t even hold the right to console her when he was the one who had given her so many wounds. She was in this abject state only because of him and his family. Then how can he even expect her to forgive him?
But Damien decided to shrug off those thoughts. He would happily accept all her punishments but would never give up on her. The thought itself was potent enough to let his heart go into cardiac arrest.
Schooling his expression, Damien approached her with hesitant steps and crouched down to her face level.
“I-I know what I did can’t be forgiven but Em,” he licked his dry lips and swallowed the remorse down his throat, “You’re my mate.” He drawled.
Emmaline lifted her glassy eyes and connected them with his greyish ones. Finding the resentment in them, Damien fell on his knees in front of her and grabbed her hands.
“Let go”, Emmaline sneered and tried to snatch her hands away but that made him further fasten his grip.
“No please” his voice turned to a plea. Emmaline couldn’t help but blink in shock as the man was in tears. She knew better not to fall for his acts but seeing the cruel Alpha submissive definitely was once in a lifetime event.
“I am sorry Emma. I don’t know how to make it up to you but I will die without you. I can’t take your hatred anymore. Beat me to death but don’t hate my presence. It’s killing me. Please everyone deserves a chance. I-If you can’t give me that chance then fine just stay with me, please.” He opened his heart to her.
Emmaline was numb. Her eyes were brimming with tears but her expression was blank. It was as if she had steeled her emotions.
Watching her this motionless, Damien clumsily got to his feet and cupped her small face in his trembling hands.
“I will bring back your smile. I promise I will avenge your miseries. I will return what’s rightfully yours. And I will never get in your way but just a promise, never leave my side.” He cried and rested his forehead on her.
“Your life is in danger Em. My father is after you. You can’t stay with those humans even as they would definitely rile you up and make you divulge your identity.” Damien finally professed. He knew one day or the other he had to tell her the truth. She might still think he was manipulating her but Damien did his part. It was up to her whether she believes it or not.
His words made Emmaline uneasy because he was saying the truth.
Opening his eyes, Damien pecked her forehead before pulling her into a bone-crushing hug.
“I just want to keep you safe. Don’t push me away from you. I am really saying the truth Em. I am only asking you to stay by my side and-”
“Fine.”
Damien stilled after hearing her terse tone. He quickly broke the hug and grabbed her face in his palms.
“What did you say?”
He whispered while staring into her frigid blue hues. A strong urge to listen to that magical word again from her mouth ignited inside him.
“I said fine.” Emmaline rasped and inched back, “I’ll stay here.” She spoke with difficulty and quickly looked away. His beaming face was irritating her.
Damien bobbed his head while shedding tears of joy. He couldn’t control his happiness anymore as he ducked forward and smooched her fuller lips.
Emmaline immediately pushed him back, “What the fuck!!” she yelled and grabbed his collar.
“Sorry, it won’t happen again.” Damien chuckled and raised his hands in surrender while eyeing her fist that froze in mid-air.
“You take some rest. I will have your lunch prepared by then.” He chirped and stepped away from her.
Emmaline nodded and cleared her throat, “Get my stuff too.” She spoke coldly and dropped her gaze to the floor.
Damien nodded and unwillingly left when he noticed her discomfort. He could see the girl wasn’t even breathing. Also, it was too much for her to take so it would be better to give her some privacy.
Emmaline slouched her shoulders and galloped large ounces of air once Damien left. She could still hear the wild thumping of her heart.
“Damn that man always makes me blush like an idiot.”
She spat and wiped her lips with the sleeves of her shirt trying to erase his touches.
Exhaling a long puff of air, Emmaline flitted her gaze to check her room. Her eyes stopped at the vintage dresser kept in the corner. Strolling, she stood in front of the dresser and eyed her reflection.
“Matt”
A broken whisper escaped her lips and closed her eyes. A sad smile etched on her face when his smiling face and beautiful eyes flashed in her mind.
Her heart turned heavy. She opened her eyes only to stiffen on spot. Instead of her, she saw Matteo in the mirror but this time his eyes were dark. Flashing her a sardonic grin, he winked at her one last time before disappearing into thin air.
Emmaline couldn’t breathe. Matteo’s dark side rocked her entire world.
Placing her palms on the dresser, she leaned on her hands and stared at the girl who looked so pale and depressed.
Tears that she was holding for so long started dripping down her eyes, one by one.
“You played with me too? You tricked me too? How could you just break my heart so ruthlessly?”
Her emotional state was vulnerable. Her head lolled down and her body wilted unable to bear the agonizing pain.
“You have such evil plans, Matteo. I thought you will become my protector but you’re the one who pushed me to my tormentor.”
The girl looked so torn and hopeless. Her silver hair that was all over her face shielded her tears but the sobs that racked her body were enough to narrate her misery.
“You hurt me the most Matt but still,” Emmaline croaked and suddenly paused.
An eerie silence soon followed that but it transpired quickly when her muscles abruptly tautened up. Her hold on the dresser table tightened to the point that her knuckles turned white. The air that was earlier lamenting and sharing her pain even froze after watching her body shake.
Was she this devastated?
Whipping her face that was dampened with tears, Emmaline looked in the mirror, all the grief hidden in her blue eyes was suddenly replaced with something menacing.
“Thank you.”
She sneered in a dark tone and smirked.
The closed walls that were earlier groped with her silence jarred with her dark chuckle as Emmaline threw her head back and started laughing hysterically.
