Chapter 37

She didn’t want to see herself wasting effort over nothing and eventually getting caught by Ethan.

If the man who spent a night with her seven years ago happened to be him, the fact that she cuffed himto the bed alone was enough to make him hold a grudge to this day. Once she was caught, he wouldprobably skin her alive before cutting her body into pieces.

“I’m the best driver you’ll ever replace in Rodcaster. Nobody is as good as me.” Aurelie beamed with pride.“Don’t worry. I got your back.”

“Then, we should make a break and leave here as fast as possible.” At that moment, Alice wished fornothing more than that.

She scanned around the yard to get ahold of the situation. A man was waiting next to a car the wholetime, and she assumed he must be one of Ethan’s lackeys. He was the only person in her view so far.

It seemed like Ethan didn’t have enough time to gather more people before heading out to search forher. Either that, or he might want to keep a low profile and avoid attention.

It was also possible that he was confident in his capabilities and didn’t see the point in involving a lot ofpeople to replace a mere woman like her.

Anyway, the lack of numbers was giving her the advantage. As long as Aurelie drove as good as sheboasted, Alice had a chance to escape.

Before the two could make it out of the yard, they watched as Ethan left the lobby while the waitingman got into the car with a swift move. The car jolted to a start and rolled down the path, then followedby a drift before it stopped right in front of Ethan. Everything happened in the blink of an eye.

Damn. Damn. Damn! He’s too freaking fast! Is that even possible?

There were indeed a lot of talented people around Ethan.

Apparently, Aurelie’s driving skills were nothing compared to the man’s. If Ethan assigned him to chaseafter Alice right now, she would not stand a chance.

She might be able to defend herself in combat, but she never was a woman who could drive well.

“How did you manage to get on Mr. Knight’s bad side? There’s no way you can outrun him if he seesyou as his target.” Aurelie turned pale at the sight of Ethan. “Do you still want to run away?

Alice hummed a quiet response. She was never the type of person who would give up without eventrying.

She cast a glance at Irvin, who followed Ethan out of the lobby, and the corner of her lips turnedupward into a smile. After that, she took out a phone from her trench coat’s inner pocket.

She borrowed the phone from the leader of the planning group before she left. Thus, she found Irvin’snumber in the contact list at ease before she dialed the number.

Irvin was only showing up at the entrance and walking toward Ethan when he noticed an incoming call.His face scrunched up in worry when he took a careful look at the caller ID. Is something wrong?

He didn’t hesitate any longer and answered his phone.

“Mr. Thorne.” As soon as he was on the phone, her greeting with a hint of amusement reached him.

Aurelie’s hands on the steering wheel lost their balance for a moment when she heard Alice’s voice.The woman snapped to the side with her eyes widening in disbelief as she studied Alice. A woman?

Alice had been talking to her in a low tone and husky voice the whole time, so Aurelie had assumedshe was a man.

“Oh, it’s you!” Irvin had linked the caller’s voice to somebody in his memory and immediatelyrecognized her. His voice raised in surprise.

Then, he reached out his hand without hesitation and grabbed Ethan, who was about to get in the car.He pointed a finger at his phone, signaling Ethan that the call was important before putting it onspeaker.

Narrowing his eyes for a moment, Ethan became even more eager to get into the car rather thanstopping to listen. He caught Alice off guard as she grumbled to herself, He’s so unconventional!What’s he doing? At least stop for a moment to listen since I called Irvin!

“Mr. Thorne, I need a favor. I need you to cause a distraction.” Noticing Ethan was striding in herdirection, she kept her words short.

Alice was speaking to Irvin in a low tone and added a tad bit of husky quality to it. It was no differentfrom how she talked to the man in the hotel seven years ago.

However, her voice only became so in the morning after spending a rough night with the man.

Alice was doing it on purpose at the moment, though. As expected, Ethan slowed down a little andstopped to a noticeable pause.

“You want me to stop Ethan? Are you out of your mind?” Irvin’s voice cracked as worries filled his mind.He’s going to kill me for getting in his way!

Worried that Ethan would go after her in his car, Alice quickly added before Irvin could say anythingelse, “Mr. Thorne, I’ll get your employee on the phone.”

Aurelie’s attention slipped from the road as she cast a glance at Alice. What is she talking about?There’s no third person in the car.

Other than the passenger, there was only Aurelie in the car. She wouldn’t mind pretending to be one ofIrvin’s employees, but considering Irvin and she were acquaintances, he would no doubt recognize hervoice. What if I exposed us?

As the question ran through her mind, she saw Alice continue to speak into the phone. “Mr. Thorne, wehave only five minutes left before it’s our turn. The lady helping us with the plan pointed out there are afew sets of numbers that seem out of place, but she refused to point out the bugs. It’s impossible to replaceall of them in five minutes. Mr. Thorne, what are we supposed to do?”

Alice had now switched roles to the team leader. Her master, who was from a family who mastereddisguising among the Mache people, once taught her that a successful disguise included a change ofvoice and face. Thus, Alice had been working hard on vocal imitation.

For instance, some people could sing a duet in both male and female voices due to hard practice.

Presently, Aurelie gaped at Alice. What the heck? What’s happening right now? Is the person a man ora woman? Such good imitation of the voice! I’ve seen the team leader and heard him talk before, andthis person sounds just like him!

If Aurelie hadn’t seen the person beside her speaking right before her eyes, she would have believedthat the team leader himself was now talking to Irvin.

Alice spared a glance at Ethan, who had slowed down his steps at the moment. He was waiting in frontof the car instead of getting in.

“Is she staying with you at the moment? Are you upstairs?” Irvin darted his gaze to Ethan to gauge theother man’s reaction, and his breathing quickened.

“R-Right!” He could hear the team leader’s worried voice coming from the other side of the phone.

“Boss, what should we do?” The next moment, Irvin heard another low voice asking for instructions.The voice belonged to Louis, a group member.

“The choice is yours, Mr. Thorne, but your time is running out. You have less than four minutes.” At last,Alice switched back to her original voice and added. Her threatening tone was hard to ignore.

Aurelie was amazed by her passenger as she watched Alice switch from one voice to another withease. Moreover, the voices sounded just like their owners. It’s amazing!

As her passenger changed their voice between a male voice and a female voice from time to time,Aurelie had no idea about her companion’s identity until now. Her head was in a scramble after theencounter.
