Chapter 426 They Did Not Die in Vain

Ezra looked at Kitty's body, then lifted his gaze to look inside the house, where he also saw Sweetie's stiff body. His dark eyes became even colder.

He nodded silently, but there was a bloodthirsty taste in his dark eyes. Surprisingly, at this moment, I could feel that he and I shared the same sentiment, wanting Geraldine to accompany Sweetie and Kitty in death.

"Ms. Conner," Marguerite panted as she ran up, looking at the bloody scene in the yard. The little girl's eyes welled up with tears and she began to cry, her voice choked with emotion. "I'm too late, I'm sorry, Ms Conner, I'm sorry. I didn't run fast enough, I couldn't save the two little ones."

I shook my head slightly, feeling somewhat powerless. When she and I entered the yard and found Geraldine, she immediately ran for help. She still managed to bring Ezra as quickly as possible. She did her best.

If it hadn't been for her first reaction to replace someone, I might have already become a victim under Geraldine's knife by now. Even if I didn't die, I would probably have been disfigured. This matter, it wasn't her fault.

I raised my hand, wiped her tears for her, didn't say any comforting words, my throat was too sore, I was somewhat speechless.

Taking a deep breath, I turned and entered the room, not looking back at the two little ones who had already left. I just numbly sat down on the chair, feeling an insane discomfort in my heart.

Ezra had arranged for someone to take away the bodies of the two little ones and instructed them to be buried.

Someone was arranged to clean up the yard again, he was by my side all the time, not talking to me, just standing silently.

After a long while, when everyone had left, he finally spoke slowly, his voice low and restrained, "They didn't die in vain."

I moved my somewhat numb arm, looked up at him, and with a mocking smile, said, "What? You would kill Geraldine?"

He furrowed his brows, looking down at me. He squatted in front of me, bending his knees, and asked, "How do you want her to die?"

Six simple words, yet I heard a bloodthirsty taste in them, as if bewitched by a devil. I froze, staring into his dark eyes, my breath halted for a moment.

He really wanted to kill Geraldine!

For a moment, I was at a loss for words and fell silent.

Seeing this, he slightly pursed his lips, then his expression softened a lot. He pulled out a faint smile and looked at me, saying, "Did I scare you?"

I pursed my lips, remaining silent.

He didn't mind either, and said, "Alright, you rest well. After I finish this busy period, I'll come to see you again."

I was stunned, watching him leave, growing increasingly confused. What on earth was going on with him towards me now?

They left me here, not to torment, but rather to arrange for someone to take care of me They even sent Sweetie and Kitty over, allowing me to

move freely here. Apart from not being able to leave this place, they almost gave me the greatest freedom

What did Ezra mean after all?

Sweetie and Kitty were gone, the days here had once again returned to a dead silence. Ezra hadn't come again, only Sebastian would come to bring some novel things.

From time to time, I would learn about Ezra's recent situation from Marguerite's conversations with him. He had hurt Geraldine, and it seemed that Mr. Butcher was very dissatisfied with him, making things difficult for him on several occasions.

I didn't know the relationship between them, but I learned a bit from Sebastian and Marguerite. Mr. Butcher was the underworld boss of this border region. He had a lot of illegal assets in his hands, but he had been entrenched in this place for a long time and had raised an army, so naturally, no one could do anything to him.

In this border region, chaos and wild thoughts were rampant. Those with money and power could act recklessly, and there were few who could do anything about it.

Ezra was a subordinate of Mr. Butcher. Because he was highly valued, he had been working with him for many years. Mr. Butcher intended to marry his daughter, Geraldine, to Ezra, and then, after his own death, he planned to hand over his family business to Ezra.

By now, because of me, Ezra had hurt Geraldine. Although I didn't know exactly what was happening outside, I could somewhat guess that Mr. Butcher must have been forcing Ezra to kill me. However, during this period, my life was so peaceful, it seemed that Ezra had no intention of doing anything to me. As for how he explained it to Mr. Butcher, I naturally didn't know, and even

Geraldine, she never appeared again.

Of course, I was delighted to be at ease, with no one to disturb me, which also gave me more time to do my own things.

After several interactions with the peddler outside, I became somewhat familiar with him. Occasionally, I would ask him for help, and he no longer asked many questions, but readily agreed.

I didn't know if Stanley had guessed that the greeting messages I had the vendor send to him were from me, but I kept insisting on having the vendor send messages to Stanley to check in, occasionally including a few greetings.

Over at Michael's, I had also become familiar. He was getting old, and it was not easy for him to recover from injuries. Moreover, apart from the occasional medicine I brought him, his healing environment in the dark room was truly terrible.
