Chapter 445
Chapter 445 What Was the Meaning of Coming Back?
I shook my head slightly, surprised at how quickly she knew about my situation at the border. I couldn't help but say, "You..."
"Emma." It was the old lady's voice.
She slowly approached Emma, with Dale accompanying her. Even though she called Emma's name, her gaze was indeed on me. It wasn't as affectionate as before. Looking at me, the old lady asked. "How has Ms. Conner's health been recovering?"
This voice, cold and unfamiliar, I vaguely felt something was wrong, but still looked at her and said, "Much better, Grandma, I came to see Walter, is he... okay?"
The old lady looked at me, displeasure especially evident on her wrinkled face, "Do you think he would be okay after replaceing his long-lost relative dead and mutilated after ten years of searching?" My heart gave a sudden jolt. Had Stanley and the old lady spoken?
Had Walter woken up?
With a bitter heart, I knew that Elliott's death was somehow related to me. Now, the only thing I could do and say was, "I'm sorry."
"So, you admit it then, you killed Walter's father?" The old lady spoke, her voice cold and harsh, barely restrained, yet filled with absolute fury
I lowered my head, gripping my hands tightly, nodding with difficulty I wished more than anyone that none of this had ever happened, but by now, it was a ford O Videole not ready yet. Please try "Smack!" When the old lady's slap came down, I didn't dodge and took it squarely.
"Grandma." Upon seeing this, Emma hurriedly opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but it seemed that she couldn't replace the words to plead for me, and could only remain silent again.
The old lady was advanced in years, and though her body was not as it used to be, her strength did not lose to the young. When she slapped me, all I felt was a burning pain on my cheek, with a faint taste of blood surging in my mouth.
"Tabatha, over the years, the Hinton family may have wronged you, but I have done my best to make amends. You resent the Hinton family, you resent Walter for treating you poorly, but he has risked his life time and again to save and protect you. No matter how great your dissatisfaction, you should not have killed Walter's father." The old lady's eyes welled up with tears as she spoke passionately. "He searched for his father for ten years, hoped for ten years, missed him for ten years, and you were so cruel as to not even leave his body intact. Tabatha, you are too ruthless."
My heart was torn with agony. How could I not know that Walter had been searching for ten years? They, father and son, were on the verge of meeting, just a few minutes away. They could have spoken to each other, Walter could have taken him home. But it was these few minutes that changed everything.
The old lady's words left me speechless. Her eyes reddened as she took a deep breath and looked at me, saying, "It's too late for anything now. You should go. You and Walter are no longer husband and wife. You are no longer a daughter-in-law of the Hinton family. In the future, don't disturb Walter anymore. Let bygones be bygones, and let each of us live our own lives."
I knew she didn't want me to see Walter, but I really wanted to see for

myself if he was okay. Looking at the indifferent old lady, I pleaded, "Grandma, I promise I won't bother him anymore. Can't I just see him once? As long as he's fine, I won't disturb you guys in the future." The old lady frowned, looking at me displeased, "What good would it do to see him? If his life was in danger, what could you do? If he was well, what difference would it make if I told you or you saw him? What you want to see him, hoping that if he woke up, he would feel that you were in his heart, and according to his liking, he would feel that he could absolve you of the sin of causing his father's death?"
I shook my head, feeling humiliated in my heart. Being shamed like this, I felt a sour and unbearable pain in my chest for a moment. Suppressing the pain, I nodded slightly, no longer insisting. I pursed my lips, took a few steps back, and bowed to the old lady, my voice choked as I said, "I'm sorry!"
At this point, I didn't know what else I could say, other than these three words.
I turned and left the hospital, looking at the gloomy and cold sky of River City, I felt a sense of confusion before me. So, what was the meaning of my return?
My mother resented me, was angry with me, and didn't want me to come home. I was homeless. Walter's life or death was unknown, and everyone was unwilling to see me. What was the point of me coming back after so many twists and turns?
This city, to me now, was truly unfamiliar.
"Tabatha!" Emma followed me out, handing me a tissue, looking at me with sympathy, "Wipe your tears."
I unconsciously wiped my face, only to realize that I was already in tears I hastily took the tissue from her hand, wiped my tears, and said.
"Thank you.
She sighed slightly, saying, "It's cold outside, there's a coffee shop across the street, shall we go in?"
