Faith With Wolves Book 2
12.The Rivers Bend Pack Part 2

Caleb

“Caleb.” Faith smiles at me and even though I’m angry I’m also relieved to see she’s safe. She cups my face and I melt into her touch before she wraps her arms around me pulling me into a hug. “I know I worried you, I’m sorry.”

“Sorry? I got knocked into the fucking wall!” Fredrick complains behind me and I watch as he pops his shoulder back into place.

I pull away from Faith and glare at him. “Next time don’t block an alpha from his mate. You're lucky to be alive.”

He waves me off. “Whatever. How did you even get past the warriors at the gate?”

I shrug. “Drove my car through it. You need a new gate by the way.” I turn to Alpha Raymond who’s got his second oldest daughter in his arms.

“The gate can be replaced but next time could you at least be courteous and wait for them to open it? The warriors didn’t recognize your car and they set the sirens off, you scared the children.”

Frowning I walk over and tug on Arianna’s braid. The little princess is clutching onto her dad's shoulder. “I’m sorry little one. I didn’t mean to scare you, but I was worried. Do you know what a mate is?”

Arianna nods and I continue. “So, you know mates are very important?” I point at Faith. “That beautiful lady right there is my mate, and I was worried about her. See Faith ran away from home and that’s a very bad thing. Do you think I should punish her?”

Arianna nods again. “My dad always makes me clean my room when I’m in trouble.”

I grin at her. “That's a great idea Arriana thank you.” She smiles at me and Alpha Raymond puts her down and she runs off down the hallway to her room. I turn my attention back to my mate who’s glaring at me with her arms crossed now.

“You can’t punish me for trying to help. Alpha Raymond is our only clue so-”

I hush her by placing one finger on her lip. “You talk too much. Later when we’re alone you will replace out what happens when you disobey my orders.”

“But I-”

I cut her off again pressing my lips to hers then biting her bottom lip when I pull away. Her gray eyes turn golden with lust and I ignore the bulge forming in my pants reminding myself I’m not in a place where I can do anything about it.

I cup her face and kiss her forehead. “Later baby business first before pleasure.”

She nods and her eyes rake over my body. Her eyes twinkle with mischief and I groan and turn away from her before I try to fuck my mate in Alpha Raymond’s bathroom.

My focus lands on Fredrick who's trying to look at everything but us. The smell of our arousal is evident in the air but I ignore it. I came here for two reasons and neither one of those was to fuck my mate despite how horny she’s making me.

“How much did Faith tell you before I arrived?” I ask and Fredrick stands up straighter.

“She told us there was a virus and the symptoms. I think my uncle was going to give her permission to investigate the pack. Though I doubt you replace anything.”

We all look to Alpha Raymond who’s standing by the hallway still, he nods. “Correct. I wish I could help more but I really can’t remember anything. The night of the committee and the last few weeks are a blur.”

Fredrick looks at Faith. “A vampire compelled him is there a way you can just un-compel him?”

Faith shakes her head. “Sorry only the vampire who compelled him can take it off and I doubt they would do it.”

“Why?” Fredrick asks but I answer for my mate.

“Because the vampire king did it and he won’t risk his daughter’s life for anything, not even if it means curing a deadly virus. That's why this investigation has to stay low-key. Nobody outside this room needs to know. You can tell your mates but that’s it.”

Alpha Raymond sighs. “I’m going to let my beta know you will be hanging around the pack and get all the paperwork you two will need.” He walks away after that leaving the three of us alone.

I glare at Fredrick. “I’m serious about nobody replaceing out why we’re here. It's not just our packs who will suffer when everyone panics about the virus but my mate's life will also be in danger. If anything happens to-”

"I know.” Fredrick cuts me off. “I have a mate too. I wouldn’t want her life in danger either. I won’t tell anyone I promise. I’ll even help cover and say I invited you guys over to hang out.”

Faith smiles and grabs his hand. “Thank you, really.”

He rolls his eyes. “No problem. I have no problem lying if it means helping my pack.”

I nod. “Good because if Alpha Raymond already had the virus, we need to make sure nobody else has been infected. Several packs have already been wiped out. I don’t want you guys to be next.”

It turns out there were a lot more infected wolves here in Rivers Bend Pack than we thought. And even though I was completely against the idea at first Faith healed as many wolves as she could. After they were compelled to forget they were ever sick.

Unfortunately, there were too many sick and Faith only had so much energy. Almost a hundred wolves were infected and only around thirty were saved. Their ages ranged from only ten years old to a lady around my grandmother's age.

Seeing the sick kids hurt the most

As I watch another wolf take their final breath, I turn to Alpha Raymond who is beside me also watching. There's a thick glass between us and the infected and I'm hoping it's enough to keep us safe and healthy.

“We need more information, Alpha Raymond. Too many wolves have died and we have to stop this before your whole pack is gone. Can you think of anything else you haven’t told us? Any places you went different than usual or any humans that have been lingering around your territory.”

Instead of looking at me, he continues to look into the makeshift hospital room. “I already told you nothing strange happened! Don’t you think I would tell you if I knew something? That's my people in there dying, the youngest victim was twelve, she was my daughter’s friend!” He snaps and storms away before I can respond.

Knowing we both need a break I don’t chase after him but go replace my mate instead. We're both stressed about the situation so I can't fault him for having an attitude. Our kind is being killed off and despite Alpha's Raymond begging I refuse to tell him how Faith healed his pack members.

I walk across the large courtyard and to a large white gazebo my mate is sitting in with another she-wolf. The she-wolf looks to be in her early twenties with strawberry blonde hair pulled into a bun, her brown eyes are full of tears that she keeps trying to wipe away.

“I just can’t believe she’s gone. One moment were laughing and joking the next she just collapsed.” she cries more and Faith rubs her back trying to comfort her.

“I’m sorry about your sister Rebecca. Can you tell me more about her?” Faith asks and I quietly take a seat beside my mate curious to hear what this she-wolf has to say.

“Bianca was only twenty-five. She worked in journalism and wanted to create a News network just for supernatural creatures.”

Faith smiles at her. “Your sister sounds like she was very smart.”

Rebecca softly smiles. “Bianca was brilliant and beautiful. All the wolves wanted to mate with her, but she was saving herself for her mate. Unlike me, I just throw myself at any wolf who smiles at me.”

She starts to cry more and Faith looks at me to stir the conversation back where it needs to be. I clear my throat suddenly feeling nervous. “Had your sister gone anywhere different lately? Somewhere she could have gotten sick from.”

The she-wolf quickly shakes her head. "No, not Bianca. She hated going out. My sister was a workaholic. I turned twenty-one last weekend and dragged her to the club with me. She hated it. We were only there a couple of hours before she dragged me back home.”

Faith looks way too excited. “Where was this club?”

“It's a new underground club called Sweet Desire. But it’s high-end and very exclusive. They don’t just let anybody in.”

I immediately mind-link Faith. “I guess it’s time to dust off your mini skirt and high heels babe, we’re going dancing.”
