Chapter 22

Alaric’s POV

All my doubts vanished when I k*ssed Farren in the car. I couldn’t help but wonder why I was always thinking about her. Why was I so captivated by everything she did? Why was she constantly on my mind? And why did I feel irritated when I heard she. borrowed someone else’s car?

That k*ss in the car answered all my questions.

I had a crush on her.

It all started when I discovered her strength, then when I saw her gracefully dancing at the bar. When she turned down Loki’s advances, proving her loyalty. When she cooked an amazing meal for me. And when she showed her self-defense skills to protect

herself.

She was an intriguing woman, and I couldn’t help but be amazed.

This is what everyone called ‘adoring’ a person. And yes, I have to admit that I adore her so much, enough for me to go to the party in order to teach a lesson to the people who were trying to harass her.

“Mr. Al.

Suddenly, my thoughts were interrupted by James Daughtler, who called out my name, bringing me back to reality. Shifting my gaze from where my wife had disappeared, I directed my attention towards Mr. James.

Accompanied by Farren’s stepmother and stepsister, they formed a circle around me, grinning from ear to ear. It seemed like they were thrilled to gang up on me.

I chose to remain silent for a specific reason. I knew that by doing so, they would inevitably make more mistakes, providing me with additional ammunition to completely ruin them.

Breaking the silence, James spoke up, “I heard that my Grandfather set you up to marry my daughter, James said. “Which family did you come from?”

They were extremely curious about my background, eager to uncover any evidence. that would prove I was insignificant. Their intention was clear to use this information. to further humiliate Farren.

In response, I maintained a smile as I glanced at James and calmly replied, “Perhaps we have yet to cross paths.

Julie, his wife, burst into laughter upon hearing my statement. “Oh dear, my husband is quite renowned. He has met almost every influential figure in this city.”

Katrine chimed in, her tone filled with disdain. “If my father hasn’t encountered your family, it can only mean that you come from a low-status background. Ugh. Mom, Dad, can we really allow someone like him to attend this party?”

Julie, addressing her daughter, responded firmly, “He is your sister’s husband. Even if you replace it distasteful to be in the company of someone who is not on our level, you must endure it.”

Feeling a surge of disgust, I stared at them and uttered, “Now I understand why my wife has never been fond of her step-family. None of you are worth engaging in conversation with.”

Katrine and Julie exchanged a disdainful glance as if I had no right to voice my opinion.

“Excuse me?” Katrine sneered.

“I highly doubt that someone as insignificant as you have the authority to speak to us like that,” Julie added with a condescending tone.

“Well, let me ask you this: do you, as a mistress, possess the audacity to proudly face everyone?” I retorted, a smug grin spreading across my face.

Their smiles quickly faded. Julie clenched her teeth and shot back, “I am not a mistress.”

“Oh, my apologies,” I sarcastically agreed. “You are not a mistress. YOU WERE A MISTRESS. I forgot to use the ‘past tense.”

“You…!” Katrine and Julie shouted simultaneously, but their words were cut short by James’ intervention.

“At some point, you’re not entirely wrong, James interjected.

“Honey!” Julie exclaimed in disbelief. “How can you agree with him?”

“Well, I did cheat on Farren’s mother because I fell in love with another woman,” James confessed. “That’s why Farren despises me, my new wife, and my children. It’s all in the past, and many people are already aware of it.”

He is so shameless as to admit all of his mistakes to the public.

“I decided to torment Farrén by forcing her to confront her worst nightmare,” he sneered. Taking a sip of his wine, he continued, “Imagine the chaos that would ensue if someone like her, who despises affairs, were to engage in one.”

Confusion clouded my face as I tried to comprehend his twisted logic. “Farren made a

grave mistake by pushing her father away. All I wanted was for her to hand over my inheritance, and then she could live in peace. But she tested my patience. So, I had to teach her a lesson. And tonight, she will finally understand.”

My fingers trembled with unease. Though I couldn’t fully grasp his intentions, a sense of impending doom washed over me. “Perhaps she’s experiencing her lesson as we speak, James chuckled darkly.

Instinctively, my eyes were drawn to the direction where Farren had disappeared.

Did he actually intend to harm his own daughter?!

Feeling my breath hitch in my chest, I clenched my jaw and glared at Farren’s despicable family.

“What have you done to my wife?” I demanded.

James smirked and replied, “Why don’t you replace out for yourself? Farren caught me in the act of having an affair. It’ll be quite entertaining for you to witness her doing the same right before your eyes.”

That was all it took.

I had seen enough to believe that he had truly done something to her.

Without wasting a single moment, I sprinted towards the same place Farren had fled to.

“Move away!” I forcefully pushed aside anyone blocking my path, driven solely by the need to ensure her safety.

In the midst of my frantic run, I couldn’t help but question if what I felt for my wife was merely a fleeting infatuation and admiration.

Was it possible that my actions were fueled solely by a shallow crush?

As I pondered over it, I stumbled upon the route that led to the attic, where Farren could have possibly ventured. And upon reaching there, what did I witness? Farren embraces another man tightly.

“Please. I feel so hot,” Farren begged.
