Chapter 4 “Her Different Side”

Alaric’s POV

The flowery background around me and Farren disappeared as soon as we walked out of my grandfather’s huge house.

Farren’s affectionate smile vanished from her l*ps. And I removed my arm from her hands.

There’s no need to fake their harmonious marriage relationship because no one is looking at them anymore except Alejandro, my faithful secretary.

“Have you finished already, Sir?” Alejandro inquired, taken aback that we didn’t spend much time visiting my grandfather.

“Yes. It’s tiring to keep acting for a long time,” I said, turning to Farren and complimenting her, “You did a great job acting, though.”

Farren looked up to me.

“…”

But she didn’t say a thing. So, I continued to speak. “I have to go somewhere. Alejandro will drive your car and escort you back home.”

My offer is rooted in sensible belief as a human. It is not a sweet gesture, and she won’t get hurt by accepting it. However…

“There’s no need,” she declined. “I can drive on my own.”

“But it will be better to let Alejandro drive for you.”

I was the reason why Farren had to go to this place. So it is my responsibility to send her back.

However, it seemed like she had misunderstood my words.

“Why?” she asked, staring at me. “Are you one of those men who also believes women are bad drivers?”

What?

Her statement made me frown. Not because I felt the sternness on her voice but also because she suddenly seemed so familiar.

“Thank you for the offer. But I got my license because I am capable of driving on my own.” She turned around and walked toward her car.

She hopped inside, closed the door, and then drove away.

As the car moved forward, my eyes went at the plate number of her car.

My eyes widened!

Isn’t that…?

Before I could voice out my guess, my secretary gasped, “Wait a minute! Isn’t that the car we saw yesterday? The woman who fought against the bully on the road! It’s Madam!”

Indeed.

I was so taken aback to think that the brave woman who mesmerized me yesterday was none other than my wife.

** ** **

After parting from my wife, I drove by myself. My destination? The “Detective’s Paradise.”

It is a brand-new club located right in the heart of the city.

For a quirky guy like me, hitting up a club wasn’t on my daily, weekly, monthly, or even yearly lists. The only reason I found myself stepping foot into that place was to show my support for my friend, Sherlock, who happened to be the club’s owner.

“I still can’t wrap my head around why I became friends with someone so different from me,” I pondered as I made his way inside.

The bustling sounds caused my eyebrows to furrow. The constant moving of the people around made me a bit light-headed, along with the scent of the alcohol wafting from the air.

“Mr. Alaric?” a waiter from the club approached me. “Are you Mr. Alaric?”

I glanced at the waiter and replied, “Yes.”

“Please come with me. Sir Loki has arranged a special area for you.”

The waiter skillfully maneuvered through the crowd, and I trailed behind. Along the way, I noticed the ladies in the vicinity making their ways toward me.

“Hey there, handsome~.”

“Care for a shot?”

“Perhaps you’d like some company?”

The ladies made their best attempts to swoon me. But nah. None of them would manage to succeed.

Upon reaching the second floor, I was guided to a vacant table where drinks and snacks had already been arranged.

“Here, Sir. I will call Sir Loki and tell him that you’re already here.”

I simply raised my hand, motioning for the waiter to leave me be.

As I glanced down at the second floor, I observed the crowd dancing energetically to the music’s rhythm.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk,” I clicked my tongue disapprovingly, shaking my head.

I really couldn’t fathom why people wasted their time in places like this.

Having that thought, I looked at afar, hoping to replace solitude in the middle of the noise. Out of nowhere, my mind wandered at the thought of my wife.

‘Until now, I couldn’t believe that Farren was the strong woman who fought against the bully in the road.’

I tried so hard to brush that off my head, but it was hard.

‘If she’s brave and tough, why does she look feeble in front of me?’

Suddenly, someone came to my way and momentarily stole my attention from thinking further about my wife.

“Hola hombre guapo,” a woman called out, suddenly taking a seat beside me.

I turned around and spotted a stunning woman making her way towards my side. She was dressed in a seductive red dress that showcased her cleavage. Moreover, she seemed oddly familiar.

Where had I seen her before?

Ah, yes. I recalled seeing her in a commercial for a high-end perfume. This woman was a renowned model.

“I saw you sitting here alone, amigo,” the woman said seductively. “How about spending your time with…”

She could not finish her words as I raised his hand and showed her the ring on my finger. “Back off. Will you?”

The woman’s face turned red. “It’s rare to see a loyal husband in this place,” she murmured before standing up and stepping away.

Looking at the ring on his finger, I couldn’t help but think that having a ring like this seems beneficial.

“You made another woman cry again?” a voice chimed in. When I looked up, I saw Sherlock, a.k.a, Loki. He sat on the other couch and crossed his legs. “I saw Jennifer crying on her way out,” he chuckled.

“Come on, Detective Holmes, don’t overreact. She didn’t shed a tear,” I clarified.

“Hey! I already told you to stop calling me that. It’s LOKI. LOKI!” He grumbled, pulling out a cigarette from his pocket and lighting it with his lighter. “I really despise my parents for giving me a name that sounds like the brainiest nerd in the world.” He took a drag of the smoke and smirked. “Anyway, you didn’t graduate with a reputation for making women cry, even after getting married.”

“My wife and I made a pact not to have any affairs,” I replied.

“Let’s just call it what it is. But I don’t think your wife would be too thrilled if she found out you came here,” Loki teased.

“That’s why I can’t wrap my head around why you invited me to your new business area when you knew I’m married now.”

“Because it’s a great opportunity for networking! Just look around. People are drawn to you, especially the ladies. And let’s not forget, my charming face adds to the appeal.” Loki chuckled as he surveyed the crowd, but his gaze fixated on something that made his smile vanish.

I am not interested why, though. Really tired to spend another second here, I stood up. “Since I came here now, so don’t expect me to come again.”

I was about to leave when Loki suddenly said something so absurd that made me pause.

“Hey, do you believe in love at first sight?” he asked.

I looked at my friend and asked, “What on earth are you talking about?”

“I mean, I gotta admit, it’s pretty legit. Right now, I’m staring at the most stunning woman I’ve ever laid eyes on. And man, my heart just skipped a beat,” Loki exclaimed, unable to tear his gaze away from something on the first floor.

I squinted at Loki.

My buddy had a reputation as a ladies’ man and had been through countless relationships. I couldn’t even keep track of how many exes Loki had. That’s why I found it hard to believe Loki’s words.

“Love at first sight? Yeah, right,” I thought skeptically. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but be curious about just how beautiful this woman must be for Loki to react like that.

“She’s an amazing dancer too. You see that lady in the light blue dress?” Loki pointed her out. “I’m determined to make her mine tonight.”

I desperately attempted to pinpoint the exact woman Loki was referring to. But the moment my gaze fell upon her, my eyes widened in sheer astonishment.

The reason behind my profound shock became crystal clear – the woman gracefully swaying on the dance floor was none other than Farren!
