Usually, by that time, Laurel would've been waiting at the door with the driver.

Skylar told Tobias she would stay at home, but Kate was desperately urging Skylar, informing the latter that the paparazzi had arrived at the scene.

Caught in a bind, she negotiated with Kate. "Kate, please help me come up with an excuse for my absence. I can't leave today because someone is sick."

Kate was still anxious. "Your family member isn't seriously ill anyway. Without the female lead at the film's promotional event, how do you expect those two fools to hold up the scene, especially Ingrid." Skylar made a promise. "I'll be there in half an hour."

Wearing a guilty expression, she went upstairs and saw Tobias was still lying in bed. His face was pale and drained of colors.

Anyone would feel uncomfortable, having suffered a low-grade fever for the entire night. He experienced a persistent high-grade fever and hadn't gotten any quality rest the night before.

"I made some oatmeal for you. Remember to eat it when you wake up later."

Tobias said, "Are you just going to leave me here?"

Skylar was still thinking about how to broach the topic when Tobias correctly guessed her intention.

"I need to attend the movie promotional event today. The movie is about to be released, and the female lead cannot be absent. I'll be back soon."

Tobias wasn't pleased to hear her mention the movie as it involved Marcus. He was unconvinced about Marcus' investment judgment. He thought the latter and Sheldon were both lame ducks. On her way to the event venue, Skylar called Laurel's number, wanting to ask why she hadn't shown up.

Laurel picked up the call. Her nasal voice sounded gloomy as she spoke. Sensing Laurel's depressed mood, Skylar asked, "Where did you go? Why didn't you come over this morning?" Laurel replied, "I'm not feeling well, so I'm skipping work today."

Skylar was rendered speechless. She couldn't help but wonder if she had been too easygoing toward the people around her. No matter what, I'm still her employer. It's fine if she applies for sick leave and doesn't come to work. However, under such circumstances, she needed me to take the initiative to contact her and check the reason behind her absence. Shouldn't she inform me in advance? Besides, she doesn't sound like she's sick. It's more likely some boy broke her heart.

Dozens of media outlets had arrived at the scene. When Skylar showed up, the reporters immediately raised and aimed their cameras at her.

Skylar reached the venue without having the time to style her hair, so she bowed deeply and apologized to the paparazzi present, "I'm really sorry for being so late. I had a little emergency. I hereby apologize to everyone."

Someone below the stage suddenly shouted, "You're always late, and despite your sincere apologies each time, you repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Interviewing you takes up most of the time in our day. We still have to return to the office and report to our superior, you know?"

Skylar looked up toward the source of the sound and noticed it was someone from Phoenix Entertainment again. They had always been like that, seemingly deliberately wanting to give her a hard time. She had been late a few times, but it was due to traffic congestion or issues with the venue from the organizers.

When asked about rumors involving Marcus, Skylar merely responded coldly, "That's not true. The clothes were delivered wrongly and were meant for his sister. The staff got it wrong and gave them to me. I just happened to be wearing fewer garments that day."

Ingrid didn't refute Skylar. She also thought that was the truth as she figured there was no way Marcus would watch her freeze on stage and instead deliver the clothes to Skylar.

When asked about the box office expectations, Skylar passed the topic to Ingrid, not wanting to answer the question.

The entertainment industry was just like that. None of the actors or actresses were truly innocent, as they all yearned to rise above others. Ingrid was frustrated that the paparazzi weren't paying attention to her.

Skylar was also fulfilling Ingrid's wish by letting the latter respond to that sensitive subject.
