Fell Into His Love Trap (Skylar and Tobias) -
Chapter 741 A Box Office Jinx
Skylar did not initiate things but waited for Tobias to make a move. However, the man merely lay on the bed even after she had waited for an eternity. He did not even hug or kiss her. The instant he sensed her gaze on him, she hurriedly tore her eyes away, afraid he would see through her.
Alas, Tobias saw right through her.
He brushed his rough fingertips across her cheek. "I'm too tired tonight. Many people were there, and interacting with them was exhausting."
Skylar had more or less gotten a rough idea of Tobias' familial relationship from Kai's occasional comment.
I'd really like to see what kind of familial relationship it is that could even exhaust someone like him. Could it be any worse than those few weirdos from Uncle Wesley's family? Wrapping an arm around the man's waist, she rested her head against his chest.
"Rest early, then."
In all honesty, Tobias loathed hugging each other to sleep. He found it utterly uncomfortable, either his arms or legs going numb.
Conversely, Skylar seemed to yearn for warmth. She loved to be hugged in sleep, and she would curl up on herself at times.
All those were signs of extreme insecurity.
With light and gentle movements, Tobias patted her on the back like a parent narrating his child a bedtime story. "Hurry up and sleep, Baby. Merry Christmas. It's going to be another year soon." He had wanted to ask her about the matter Judy spoke about, but ultimately, he chose to remain silent. He believed in her, trusting that she had her own reasons for doing whatever she did. There's no point in me questioning her. Besides, other people's life has nothing to do with me. I've got no sympathy for Judy when she's righteously indignant for a friend!
On the day The Ballad of 1978 premiered, the screening times were even worse than the filming crew had expected.
A look at the most direct data almost sent Skylar fainting. People would either have to wake up early or stay up late if they wanted to watch her movie.
Everyone went for Pretty Detective instead.
She had no choice but to accept that the movie she first starred as the female lead was a failure.
Adding to her frustration, she was supposed to play the female lead for Pretty Detective.
She presently had dirt on Amelia, and that movie she starred in would likely flop if she were to go to the media with it.
However, she could not bring herself to do such a thing. She had no excuse to deceive herself and expose Amelia by pretending to be a righteous person who was upholding justice by dragging the latter into the mess. At the end of the day, she was not that evil.
The director had already started playing the victim on Twitter, writing a lengthy post to urge the cinemas to arrange their screenings properly instead of fixing them for midnight showings.
Among those who stood out to riposte the man was one of the managers of Ford Group's cinemas. He called the director out for being unreasonable as screening times were arranged fairly, countering that he only had himself to blame for the poor reception. Worse still, he criticized Skylar, saying she was not worthy of being the female lead since she could not drive box office sales with her fan base. He felt that the movie should not have pinned their hopes on her, much less when it was a Christmas movie.
Skylar waited until eight o'clock the next morning before the total box office sales yesterday were announced. It dashed her hopes entirely. Although she had long since expected it, it was still painful for her to face the truth head-on.
The ticket sales for The Ballad of 1978 were so bad that it was even worse than Bear Escapades. She had worked hard to film the movie over several months, yet it held less appeal than the latter. When Kate's call came through, she was wearing her shoes in the hallway. She had promised her mother to have dinner at her place tonight, and Tobias would be going over as well. "Have you seen the box office sales?"
Her fingers tightening on her phone, Skylar replied, "Yeah. It's pretty bad. Someone even bought a spot on the list of trending topics, saying that I'm a box office jinx."
