Fierce Obsession: LA Ruthless: Book 4 (L.A. Ruthless Series) -
Fierce Obsession: Chapter 6
I hold onto Jax’s hand as we stroll through the grass toward the main house. We’ve had an incredible day not doing much at all. He cooked us a huge breakfast and afterward we watched a movie. Then we went for a long walk and when we stopped for a rest under a huge tree, we lay in the grass for the longest time, just kissing.
This afternoon, I sat on his lap in the huge rocking chair and we just talked and watched Blue chasing a rabbit before I fell asleep. Jax carried me inside then and we both took a nap. He said it was the first time he’d taken an afternoon nap in his entire adult life.
I woke up wrapped in his arms, with the sun setting and a soft breeze blowing through doors leading to the balcony. It’s been like something from a movie.
I sigh contentedly and he squeezes my hand in his.
“You okay?” he asks.
“Way better than okay.” I smile at him. “You?”
“Starving,” he replies.
As soon as we get to the house, Molly rushes out to greet us, as though she didn’t see us yesterday at our wedding.
“What did you think of the barn, Lucia? Didn’t Harvey do a great job with it?” she asks as she ushers us inside and into the large kitchen where Harvey is busy finalizing dinner.
“Yes he did. I love it. It’s beyond perfect,” I agree.
Harvey smiles to himself and I walk over to him and give him a peck on the cheek. I’ve decided that I can be nice and polite to him, even if Jax struggles to.
Jax asks Molly about her flight as they both take a seat at the table.
“Can I help with anything?” I ask Harvey.
“No, you go sit yourself down,” he insists. “It’s almost ready.”
I do as he says and take a seat next to Jax, who hasn’t even acknowledged his father’s presence yet.
When Harvey has served up his delicious looking chicken casserole and Jax has his mouth full of food, I start talking.
I hate to eat in silence. Family dinners should be about laughter and conversation. I never had that growing up, not until I was adopted by Alejandro and Alana when I was seventeen, who are both into the whole family dinner thing. So now, I always make sure Jax, Matthias and I eat dinner at the table at home in LA, and that we all talk about something.
“Can I ask where you got that beautiful rocking chair on the porch, Harvey?”
He wipes some gravy from his chin and blinks at me before glancing at Jax as though he’s waiting for permission to speak, and it makes me feel so sad for him.
“Did you restore it yourself?” I ask another question because he wouldn’t be rude enough to go on ignoring me.
“Yes,” he eventually replies.
“It was bright purple when you bought it, wasn’t it?” Molly says with a laugh. “Gaudy looking thing.”
“Well, it’s not now. It’s beautiful,” I say with a smile. “And comfy too. Jax and I fell asleep on it this afternoon.”
“No, you fell asleep, angel,” he reminds me with a grin.
“It must have taken a lot of work?” I ask before I take a bite of the casserole.
“Not really. Once I stripped the paint, I sanded it down and gave it a few coats of wood oil,” Harvey replies. “I enjoyed doing it. Gave me something useful to do with these old hands.”
“Well, I really love it. You’ve done such a great job with the whole place, hasn’t he, Jax?” I nudge his leg with mine.
“Yeah,” he admits. I mean he can’t exactly deny it. “Did you restore those oak beams too?”
“Yup. But that was much harder work. I had to ask the contractor to help me out with those,” he admits, but there is a light in his eyes that wasn’t there a few seconds before. It’s painfully clear that Jax’s approval means everything to him.
Jax nods his head as he goes on eating his meal.
“What are you going to use that spare room for then?” Molly asks with a wicked twinkle in her eye.
“A nursery,” Jax replies without missing a beat, making me turn and scowl at him.
“A nursery?” Molly shrieks. “Oh, I’m going to get me some more babies around this place.” She clasps her hands together in delight.
“Maybe not for a while yet though,” I say before she gets too carried away.
Jax laughs softly and I roll my eyes at how sure he is of himself.
“You know what would look good in there?” he says to his aunt. “One of those old-fashioned cribs that rock.”
“Like the kind you had?” she says with a huge smile.
“Well, can’t say I remember that far back,” Jax laughs.
“You did,” Harvey says quietly. “I rocked you to sleep in it every night for a year after you were born. One time when you had croup, it was the only thing that would stop you crying. Your mom and I used to take turns rocking it all night long,” he wipes a stray tear from the corner of his eye.
I sense Jax bristling beside me. I wish that I could take his pain away so that he could let his father in a little.
With perfect timing, Blue jumps up and places his fat paws on the table and makes everyone laugh.
“Get down you dumb dog,” Molly chides him, before taking a piece of chicken from her bowl and hand feeding him.
Then we go on eating the rest of our meal making idle small talk and avoiding any further discussion of Jax’s childhood, his mom, or nurseries.
After dinner, Jax and I walked back to the barn. On the way we looked at the stars and he told me about the different constellations and the mythology behind them. I suspect it was a way of avoiding the conversation we’re about to have as I stand in the bedroom undressing.
“Why did you have to tell them about the nursery?” I ask.
He frowns at me. “Why wouldn’t I? I didn’t think it was a secret that we’re going to have more kids?”
“It’s not,” I say with a sigh. “But telling Molly about a nursery, Jax? She got so excited. It just feels like there’s unnecessary pressure to fill a nursery now, is all.”
He walks across the room, wrapping his arms around me. “There is no pressure, angel. I’ll talk to her. Okay?”
I place my hands on his solid chest. “You really want a baby so soon, though?”
He brushes my hair back from my face. “Yes. If it was up to me, I’d toss those birth control pills you’re taking down the toilet and have you knocked up before this honeymoon is over.”
“You know it’s unlikely to happen that quickly, right?”
“Well we’ll never know unless we test the theory out.” His hand skates over my stomach until it’s splayed over my abdomen. “So, what do you say, baby? You gonna let me put my baby in you?”
I can’t deny the thought of having Jax’s baby fills me with excitement, but this is a big deal. “We’ve been married less than two days and you already want me barefoot and pregnant?”
He arches one eyebrow at me. “I never said you had to be barefoot.”
I push against his chest, but he’s so huge he doesn’t budge at all.
“Besides, Matthias is desperate for a little brother or sister,” he reminds me, going for the jugular.
“I know. He tells me almost every day, and you encourage him.”
His face breaks out into a huge grin as he pulls me closer until I’m pressed against him and I feel his hardening cock digging into my abdomen. “I support him. That’s what dad’s do.”
“You are the best dad,” I admit. He is incredible with my son, Matthias. No-one who saw them together would have any idea that Jax isn’t his biological father.
“Make me one again,” he whispers, his breath dusting over my cheek and making goosebumps break out all over my body.
Holy mother of God. How the hell do I refuse an offer like that?
“Okay, no more birth control pills,” I agree.
“Good girl,” he laughs softly before he scoops me up into his arms, making me yelp in surprise. “Might as well get started right away.”
“Well, I haven’t taken one for over twenty-four hours now, so…” I grin at him.
“Really?” He tosses me into the middle of the bed.
“No. You know I take them at night.”
He pulls his t-shirt off over his head and climbs onto the bed, holding himself over me. “Something about fucking you and knowing that I could be getting you pregnant makes me feel like a fucking animal, baby. I want to fill you so full of my cum that your pussy is bursting with it.”
“Damn, Jax,” I whisper. I’m pretty sure he could knock me up with his dirty talk alone.
