Figment of Dreams
Epilogue: Ethan

Lux

I awoke in the amusement park nightmare with a jolt of instant fear. Catapulted into the scene, or so it felt. As always my legs were bare and I was in a short white flowy dress. A bright blue cotton candy in one palm. I would glare to my right and see Ethan approaching. We would ride the carousel once before everything goes to hell. There would be a power outage. We would inevitably be drawn to the mirror house and it was there that the Dark Stalker would impale me on a giant hook, dragging me through the aisles, seeing myself bleed out in 360 degree angles was something else.

I had not seen Ethan in months. A part of me thought it was finally over with. That somehow, when I heard the Dark Stalker talk in that last nightmare we shared, it was the nail in the coffin.

Waking up here was so disturbing after months of good nights I felt light headed. I stumbled and dropped the cotton candy. I turned to the right and Ethan wasn’t there. It all felt wrong. People were running by in slow motion, it doesn’t usually happen like this. I stared at my hands now. They were red. My dress was covered in blood. The hook was already-

I jolted backwards, pain so intense I cried out. A little girl stopped in her tracks to stare at me as I fell down, dragged backwards over the rough gravel. The girl just stared, blank expression and no help. I wasn’t in the mirror house. It was wrong. I could see the black cape of the Dark Stalker fan over my head with each step he took, his breathe deep and dark. He was dragging me somewhere. I tried to speak but blood bubbled out of my mouth, spilling over my lips. Trickling underneath my chin. The pain from the hook between my ribs breathtakingly painfull even here. Footsteps hurried from my left.

‘Jules!’ He yelled. Ethan.

‘You have to replace me.’ He crouched down beside me and put a bracelet on my arm. He opened his mouth a few more times but blood bubbled out. He too was impaled by a giant hook people used to fish with.

The Dark Stalker stopped. Dropped me. Turned towards Ethan. He never turned towards him. Ever. He was always invisible in each nightmare. I wanted to yell at him to run but it was too late. Ethan stepped backwards. Opened his mouth with one final act of strength and yelled. ‘See you in faerie!’

The dark stalker violently removed the spear inside his stomach and used it to gut him from his stomach to his neck.

I woke with a jolt. Sputtering spit and leaking tears. As I stumbled to the bathroom I saw it.

I was wearing the bracelet he gave me. It had two words on it.

Ethaniel Regental.

He wasn’t just a guy. He has never been just a guy. Something deep inside me had always known, that he had been something else.

Ethaniel Regental.

Ethan.

Was the firstborn of the king and queen of the infamous Winter Court of the Fae. He was the Faerie prince.

Author's note:

Thank you for reading my book. I wrote this many years ago and I will have to strongly edit it. I'm aware of the grammar mistakes, missing plot points, etc. and my current stories have a lot less of those these days.

Anyways, I was amazed by the number of reads this story got! I regret putting it up without the proper edit, someday I will get to it and redo the entire thing. Thank you for reading it, even with all the mistakes! Please leave a review or comment, it would really help me out!
