Figment of Dreams -
Intervention
‘Sebastian I am not joking. You are going way too fast. Stop!’ I tried to get away from his grip but he wouldn’t let me. ‘Stop it!’ I held on to a tree and tried to use it as leverage to hold myself back. But he was so much stronger. ‘Love, we got to go! The thing can come back at any moment!’ My poor arm was ready to fall out of his socket. He was so scared his skin felt flaming hot to the touch.
‘What’s going on here?’ It was Ash. Appearing out of nowhere. How did he replace us?
‘Let her go, Barrington. NOW!’ Ash was using his deep serial killer voice and was clearly not joking. Sebastian held on to me for a while, eyeing the enormous guy in front of us with a clinical look in his eyes. He let me go with a grunt. I quickly retreated my arm and rubbed it where he had held me. That would go over well with Kai when he saw that bruise...
Ash kept Sebastian in his sights when he approached me. He grabbed my face and asked gently. ‘Are you all right? Did he hurt you?’ His eyes traveled all over my face and body in a couple of quick seconds. He made me look into his eyes as always and I nodded that I wasn’t harmed. Sebastian did not hurt me, he had probably saved my life but Ash didn’t know that. This made his shoulders loosen up a bit and he brought me close for a hug. Which I replied. Just happy to have somebody warm to lean into. He let out a soft sigh as if me being there was making him relax a bit. The morning was way too cold for me to be out here in my flimsy camisole. As If he read my mind Ash started to rub up and down my back to give me some warmth back. His heart beat rapidly in my ear. Sebastian took a step toward me and Ash literally growled at him. ‘Do not even think about it!’ This made him hesitate and he took a step backward. ‘I was just going to grab her because we need to move. NOW!’
‘You have no business grabbing her for anything!’ Ash screamed at him again and this time too loudly near my head. I flinched away from him. He slammed me back against his chest. Being very possessive of me. He got that a lot lately.
‘I don’t understand why you won’t-’
‘Not another word Barrington. Not another word.’ His voice was the deepest I had ever heard it.
I do get the feeling that everyone was holding something back from me. I had no clue to what that was though. ‘There’s a freaking Wolvaby in these woods and we need to move now!’ Sebastian quickly yelled before he could be interrupted again.
‘Don’t lie to me, Sebastian. I’m taking her back. You can go now.’ He dismissed Sebastian with a flick of his wrist and ignored him completely. I looked up at Ash and told him that Sebastian was telling the truth. Which caused Ash to accuse him of drugging me. Sebastian huffed and puffed but decided to take on his defense teacher wouldn’t turn out so great for him so eventually, Sebastian ran. Ash kissed the top of my head. ‘Let’s go back little sweet cheeks. It’s not warm enough out here for you.’
‘Ash we really do need to go back, now. Sebastian was telling the truth!’ Ash still didn’t believe me fully but he did see I was scared so we ran back to campus as well.
I just wanted my bed but Dean, Ash, and Oak were adamant about our statements. After spending the entire night, awake and cold up a tree with Sebastian I was ready to pass out right on this desk. Seb and I were sitting in front of Dean, in his office. Oak was sitting in the lounger to our left and Ash was leaning against the desk. Arms crossed.
‘So you are telling me you petted a Wolvaby…’ said Dean with as much disbelief in his voice as Ash had demonstrated earlier.
I sighed. ‘For the millionth time, yes. He was cute at first but then he changed.’
Ash laughed at that. ‘Sweetheart, that is just not possible. You must have come across some mushrooms or something.’
I looked up at him and blinked. ‘No… it happened…’
Dean intervened. ‘I’m not saying you are lying but it seems very unlikely. Even myself, with my animal gift, could not come close to them. I have tried and it has been one of the scariest experiences of my life.’
I sighed again. ‘Look, can we talk about this tomorrow? I just want my bed right now.’
Oak and Ash exchanged glances. Dean answered for them.
‘Yes, you may go. Sebastian, we still need your statement. Please stay.’
I left the room.
