Chapter 1 I’m the Apartment Owner

It was midsummer, and the sunlight was scorching.

In the sun, Camila Lambert was standing at the entrance of a shopping mall, handing out flyers as a part-time job.

Suddenly, Camila saw a man and a woman enter the mall through the side door not far away.

Their figures looked like her boyfriend, Samson Lister, and her best friend, Mackenzie Chilton.

“Wasn’t Samson supposed to be in a job interview today?” she wondered.

Camila’s heart sank, and she immediately followed them.

However, once inside the mall, Camila lost track of them.

After walking around in the mall for a long while, Camila received a notification about a credit card transaction on her phone.

The amount was 8,000 dollars, spent at a jewelry counter.

Camila’s hand trembled at the sight of the number. That was almost six months’ worth of her income.

Camila quickly found the jewelry counter, only to replace the cashier putting a sparkling diamond ring on Mackenzie’s delicate fourth finger.

The ring had a large diamond and was beautiful, the exact one that Camila had been eyeing for a long time.

Seeing Mackenzie’s happy smile, Camila felt her mind go blank.

Samson had been unemployed and living off Camila for the past six months. How could he use her credit card to buy a diamond ring for another woman?

Did he have any respect for her?

Camila rushed over, took the ring off Mackenzie’s finger, and handed it back to the store assistant.

“I want to return this ring,” said Camila.

“What do you think you are doing, Camila? I just bought this ring. What right do you have to return it?” Mackenzie yelled.

Camila slapped Mackenzie in the face.

“What the hell are you doing?” Samson, who had just finished paying, arrived and took Mackenzie into his arms protectively, yelling at Camila.

“I only spent several thousand dollars, and you slapped her like a mad dog! Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?” Samson looked disgusted.

Camila felt heartbroken at that moment, and her eyes were flushed with betrayal, anger, and humiliation.

“You used my hard-earned money to impress another woman, and you have the nerve to say that I should be ashamed of myself!”

“Why couldn’t I? Look at yourself! No man would love you!”

For the past six months, Camila had lived frugally to support Samson. She hadn’t used skincare products or bought any new clothes for a long time. But what had she got in return? It was his betrayal!

As more people gathered around to watch, Samson threw the credit card and receipt at Camila’s face.

“Take it all back! All you care about is money. I’m sick of you!”

The credit card hit Camila’s face and caused pain, but the real pain was in her heart.

“Camila, you will end up alone and lonely forever. No man can tolerate you,” Samson said before leaving the mall with Mackenzie.

Camila remained silent, picking up the credit card and the receipt from the floor. After processing the refund, she headed straight to the apartment she rented with Samson.

It was a two-bedroom apartment. Camila and Samson had always been sleeping in separate rooms.

She used to think it was gentlemanly of Samson to do that. But now, it seemed ironic.

As soon as Camila returned home, she started packing Samson’s belongings, preparing to kick him out.

While packing the bedsheet, Camila found two used condoms.

Camila stared at the “fresh” condoms, and the last shred of hope she had for Samson was gone.

She threw Samson’s belongings out one by one.

Samson came back with Mackenzie.

At the sight of his empty bedroom, Samson was furious.

“Camila, are you crazy? How could you touch my stuff?”

Camila sat on the couch in the living room. In the past, she had thought Samson was the most handsome man in the world, but now, she found him disgusted to the core.

“Perfect timing. Give me the key to the apartment. From now on, don’t come here again. I don’t want some trash in my place.”

“Camila, are you kidding me? I also paid rent before. Why should I move out?” Samson angrily roared.

“As you said, it was before. What about the rent for the past six months and our living expenses for the past two and a half years? Did you pay any of it?”

Camila started to calm down, and the point she made was irrefutable.

Seeing the neighbors gathering around to watch, Samson felt embarrassed and wanted to smooth things over first.

“Camila, you just want money, right? The six-month rent is just two or three thousand dollars. It’s only one and a half months of my salary. When I replace a job, I’ll pay you back.”

“Samson, no need to wait for six months. We’ll give her the money now.” Mackenzie took out her phone and walked up to Camila. “I’ll pay you the rent for the past six months right now, but you’ll have to move out by the end of the day.”

Mackenzie had done her math. The half-year rent wasn’t much, just a little over two thousand. It was nothing compared to what the foolish Camila had bought over the years. This way, she could also impress Samson.

Samson, graduating from a prestigious university, was a diamond in the rough. He used to earn 5,000 dollars a month.

Camila nodded in agreement gladly and gave Mackenzie her account number. Mackenzie immediately transferred the money.

Then, Mackenzie pointed to the door and said smugly, “Pack your things and get lost!”

“Wait a moment.” Camila turned around and calmly took out a property deed.

“Do you see what this is?” Camila unfolded the deed, and the name of the property owner was Camila Lambert.

“I’m the owner of this apartment, and I’m taking it back today.”

“Camila, how could you lie to me?” Samson immediately flew into a rage. “If you are the owner of the apartment, why did you make me pay rent for so many years?”

“Isn’t it normal to pay rent for the place you live in?” Camila shrugged.

“Bitch!” Samson pointed at Camila with a trembling finger. “I underestimated you before.”

“Camila, you’re despicable.” Mackenzie regretted it so much that it hurt. She lost both money and the apartment.

“Not as despicable as you two.”

Camila opened the front door. “Take your stuff and get lost!”

Mackenzie wanted to continue making a fuss, but Samson saw more and more neighbors gathering around, so he quickly dragged Mackenzie away.

Before leaving, Samson gave Camila a sharp glance, thinking about how to get his hands on the apartment.

After dealing with the scumbag, Camila slumped against the wall.

Camila felt relieved because she didn’t have to work multiple jobs to support that jerk anymore.

The next moment, Camila’s phone rang. It was her younger brother, Hudson Lambert.

“Camila, grandma has been diagnosed with cancer, and the surgery costs 80 thousand dollars. I don’t have that much money, I…” Hudson’s voice broke into sobs.
