Flora’s Guide to a Second Chance at Love and Life -
Chapter 1049
Kate hung around, chatting with Flora a bit longer, before finally dragging herself away, clearly not wanting to leave. Once the Haines family was out the door, Jules jumped at the chance to talk to Flora. He had some important stuff to discuss about a groundbreaking new medicine.
"Flora-uh-" Jules stammered, letting out a loud burp. Flora gave him a deadpan look and stepped back, unimpressed.
"Maybe you should just keep quiet," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Jules just sighed and covered his mouth, looking like a scolded puppy. "Hey, I really need to talk to you about the new medicine experiment. Can you check it out when you get a chance?"
He claimed a 60% success rate so far. Those experimental drugs were still tucked away, awaiting Flora's seal of approval.
After all, this wasn't just any medicine-it could alter the human body, boost physical prowess, and even extend lifespan. Such a revelation would definitely cause a global frenzy.
"Is something wrong with it?" Flora asked, frowning.
Jules wouldn't have asked her to look unless there was an issue.
"No, it's just " Jules leaned in, whispering in her ear, cautious of the curious eyes around them.
Flora's eyes widened in surprise after hearing him out. "I'll come by tomorrow and take a look," she decided after a moment.
"Great, I'll wait for you then," Jules said, giving his belly a little pat before heading off with Mr. Richard.
On the ride back, Flora couldn't shake thoughts of the medicine Jules had described. According to him, anyone who took it would gain incredible strength and agility, even developing a mysterious internal power.
In ancient times, people performed feats like striking from afar, walking on water, and scaling walls-all thanks to this internal strength.
Flora had heard whispers about ancient martial artists before but never gave them much thought. But with Jules' discovery, it seemed the world was even more mysterious than she'd imagined.
"What's on your mind?" Connor asked, noticing how lost in thought she seemed.
"Connor, do you ever think ancient martial artists might really exist in this world?" Flora asked, not holding back.
Connor's hand, resting on her shoulder, hesitated. He looked into her eyes. "Maybe," he said, pausing a beat, "Why do you ask?"
"No reason, just curious."
Connor kept staring at her, and
when he realized she was genuinely
just curious; he relaxed. He had
worried that maybe she'd
remembered something unpleasant from her childhood, something better left forgotten.
"Connor, quit staring at me like that."
His gaze was so intense, it was hard to ignore. Flora lifted her head to meet his eyes.
In the dim light of the carriage,
Connor's face shifted in and out of shadow, his eyes dark and
compelling. With a couple of buttons undone at his collar, his collarbone and Strong chest hinted at a
suppressed allure.
It was almost criminal, the attraction it sparked.
Connor's heart skipped, worried she
might have noticed something, but just as he thought to look away, Flora's left hand wrapped around his neck, her right hand-
Settled on his Adam's apple, her index finger lightly tracing along it.
"Otherwise..." Flora swallowed, her voice carrying a hint of mischief, "I might not be able to hold back."
...
Meanwhile, at the police station, Lydia and Blake had been locked up for hours, looking utterly drained. Lydia was still obsessing over whether Flora could be Rose. The suspicion was driving her to the brink.
"Sis, do you think... could Flora really be Rose..." Her voice shook, eyes empty and lost.
"No way!" Blake was beyond annoyed. "Forget about Flora for now. We need to figure out how to get out of here!"
If they didn't escape soon, they feared they might not make it out at all.
