Chapter 17 - Confrontation

Ivy;

The soldiers are holding swords at Adomis’ throat as he sits glaring back at them defiantly from his position on the floor.

Now, thanks to me he is their prisoner as well! But I know they will not treat him as well as they have me.

“Don’t move!” one of the soldiers commands sternly.

“Who are you stranger?” another demands.

“He’s no one of importance.” I cut in as I move in closer to stand beside Adomis and the soldiers.

“Please, you must inform Ronaar to let this man go. There’s been a terrible mistake-”

“-I’m afraid that I can not allow that.” came the familiarly deepened voice of the leader of the Moonlit Guild himself, as he stepped into the hut to join us.

Ronaar’s deep green eyes changed from sincerity to anger as they moved from mine down to Adomis.

Crossing his arms in front of his chest he shook his head slowly from side to side as he spoke directly to Adomis now.

“I was wondering who I had to thank for the village’s black out and now I know…” he taunts with a raised brow.

“The mighty Overlord Adomis, it has been far too long my friend.”

“I’m no friend of yours!” Adomis snapped back fiercely at him.

“Make no mistake about that!”

Ronaar grinned, lowering his head and chuckling softly.

“Of course, I see you still haven’t forgiven me...”

Now I’m intrigued.

What were they referring to?

Had they once been friends?

Had they gone through a falling-out for some unknown reason?

I wanted to know more but now was hardly the time to ask.

Adomis;

My balls are fucking killing me as I sit foolishly on the floor of this small hut, surrounded by Moonlit Guild soldiers and that smug bastard Prince Ronaar.

Ivy looks at me with an apologetic expression as she realises the seriousness of her earlier mistake.

But I can hardly blame her; she has been through so much since arriving in our world accidentally.

“I was wondering how long it would take you to come looking for her.”

Ronaar continues to taunt me in my moment of disgrace.

“I have to admit Overlord, you never fail to surprise me.”

“Fuck you!” I spit, purposely avoiding his gaze in an act of defiance.

Ivy turns toward Ronaar.

“Please, just let him go.”

She pleads pointlessly for me.

“He’s of no threat to you.”

“I take it you’ve not seen the two soldiers lying unconscious on the floor just outside of this hut, my dear.” Ronaar comments, pointing towards the doorway as he looks to me.

“This man is as dangerous as they come, and then some. And he will be dealt with severely, I can assure you.”

I can see her beginning to worry now as she slumps her shoulders and takes a step back to unknowingly close the short gap between us.

And it looks like she’s close enough now for me to make my move. I can’t help but grin as I see my opportunity and immediately jump at it.

Within the fraction of a second I reach out and grab her by the skirt of her dress.

“Whoa!” she screams out in shock as I pull her against me as I simultaneously stand and the soldiers all take a cautious step away from us.

“Get back, all of you!” I shout fiercely.

Whether they are afraid of me or of harming Ivy, I am not certain, nor do I care.

I know they will not try and harm her.

“Adomis, what the hell are you doing?” she demands as I wrap one arm around her waist and grasp gently at her throat with my free hand.

“Let go of me. You’re making things even worse!”

“Shhh…” I lean over her right shoulder and whisper softly into her ear.

“…the men are talking, dearest.”

She scoffs with frustration at my comment and struggles against my hold on her.

“Release her immediately Overlord!”

Ronaar demands from his position between us and the doorway as he quickly unsheathes his sword as a clear warning.

“I will not ask you again.”

“You won’t get the chance.” I remark.

Then almost immediately there is a massive ‘BOOM’ sound as an explosion erupts at the other side of the village sending monstrous flames rising high up into the sky above.

We can see the flames through the entryway to the hut and all eyes are drawn towards them.

The sound of screams and cries can be heard as several villagers run in a panic to replace shelter from this sudden attack on their homes.

The explosion draws the attention of Ronaar and his soldiers as they all turn to see the fiery flames rising up into the air.

Their expressions show their confusion as they look to one another for answers.

“You should probably see to that.” I remark with a taunting grin spread across my face as I look directly at Ronaar.

“Nothing but a mere distraction; a ruse to redirect our attention from you.” Ronaar pointed out with a serious expression as his green eyes glittered in the torch light.

“I know your tricks Adomis. You forget, I know you!”

“Then you also know how far I am willing to go to get what I want.” I remind him.

There is a brief moment of silence shared between us as my enemy tosses up his options.

He must choose as to whether he focuses all of his attention on fighting against me and reclaiming Ivy, or if he goes to his people’s aide as a true leader should.

A second explosion erupting near the first makes his decision for him and he lets out a frustrated snarl, sheathing his sword and pointing his finger directly at me with a seething glare of hatred.

“Don’t think this is over Adomis! I will come for her. And I will reclaim what is rightfully mine.”

“Um, hello? I’m not anyone’s property.” Ivy snaps.

“You can try.” I shoot back at Ronaar with a grin, completely ignoring Ivy’s comment about ownership.

After all, this is between me and him.

Ronaar looks to his side and speaks to one of his soldiers now.

“You two, handle this mess. Ensure that no harm comes to the girl, understood?” Ronaar commands.

“And him?” the soldier asks.

END him!”

Ivy’s brows furrow as I hear her suck in a sharp breath in fear at Ronaar’s command.

Not that his soldiers stand a chance against me. It’s clearly a waste of time even trying.

Without another word Ronaar exits the hut and his soldiers follow, all except for the lucky two soldiers who remain, apparently chosen to kill me and reclaim Ivy.

Looking from one of the soldiers to the other, my eyes then dart towards the doorway behind them and I have to think fast. I need to get both me and Ivy out of here, fast.

I will not allow any harm to come to her.

“I hope you know what you’re doing Adomis.” she whispers.

Ivy sounds panicked as she too watches the soldiers who are now moving in on us with their swords drawn and prepared to fight.

Pushing Ivy off to the side in an effort to get her out of harm’s way, I quickly unsheathe my sword and the fight commences.

Both soldiers rush me at once.

Soon the ‘clashing’ of metal against metal repeats over and over as the blade of my long sword crashes against each of theirs, one by one.

They appear to be taking turns with me, how kind of them.

The first soldier is taller and seems to have more strength in him, not that it will count in the end.

His footing is all off and I can see at least three different blind spots I could use against him.

He’s obviously not well-trained enough.

I spin to the right and hold my sword up over my head just in time for the second soldier’s blade to come crashing down against it.

He is short and fast... but not fast enough.

With one swift motion I spin back in the opposite direction and my blade slices through the soldier’s chest.

I hear Ivy scream at the sight of his gaping fleshwound as she stands by and watches in the corner.

Her eyes follow the rest of his body as it goes limp and falls to the floor in a crumpled heap beneath my feet.

The taller soldier wastes no time stepping in and I put little effort into quickly finishing him off with several skillful manouvers.

My final thrust goes directly up into his spine and I make sure to twist the handle in an effort to cause as much damage as possible.

To ensure death.

By now Ivy has her hand over her mouth and her brows furrowed as she looks from the bodies of my fallen enemies across to where I am closing in on her.

She seems shocked, disgusted even.

“Come on, we don’t have much time.” I announce as I reach out my gloved hand for her to take.

But she surprises me by not reaching for mine in return.

Then I see her angered expression and her right hand raises in an effort to strike me with it.

‘What?’

As she forces her hand through the air towards my head my hand catches her wrist mid-air and this surprises her.

She then proceeds to pull at her wrist as she snaps at me.

She’s clearly unimpressed for god only knows what reason.

“How could you! You killed those men!”

She’s furious with me. Her venomous tone shows just how enraged she currently is as she continues her rant aimed at yours truly.

“You egotistical, self-centred son-of-a-bit-”

Her words are instantly silenced as my lips crash hard upon hers, shocking her once more as her crystal blue eyes widen before slowly closing.

After a second or two she appears to melt into our kiss and reciprocates it, her hands resting up against my firm pecs as my tongue massages hers sensually.

I hear a soft moan escape from her lips and I can’t help but smirk devilishly as I slowly pull away and cease our sudden and unplanned kiss.

Her eyes slowly open, as if she is coming out of a sensuous daze and she breathes heavily as her eyes rise to meet mine.

She looks to me as if silently asking why I just did that, but I don’t have the time to discuss this now.

We need to get the hell out of this place and return home before Ronaar and his men return!

I quickly lean down and grab my helmet, then her hand before leading her through the doorway and out toward the treeline of the forest.

As we run through the dense forest to meet up with Captain Khalan and Zarkin I wonder to myself why I kissed her.

Where had that come from?

Had I just meant to silence her, or was it something else?

Had I developed feelings toward Ivy, ones that I hadn’t realised until this very moment?

And if so, did she feel the same way towards me?
