Forsaking the Years of Longing -
Forsaking Billionaire 109
Chapter 33
Matthew's gaze burned with intensity as he locked eyes on Charlotte, his heart roiling with indescribable anger and shock.
"I knew you were cruel, but I didn't think you were capable of this- killing someone!" His voice shook with fury.
Charlotte's sudden laughter echoed eerily, like a mournful wind cutting through the air.
She slumped on the ground, her fingers aimlessly twisting together, her eyes vacant. "I couldn't stand seeing Daphne by your side. I wanted her gone - completely erased from this world." "You'll never have that chance again. I won't let you get near Daphne, not even a step!" Matthew's voice was as cold and unyielding as steel, each word forced through gritted teeth. Charlotte's face flashed with shock, followed by panic and resentment. "What did you say? She. she's not dead?"
Her voice trembled as if unable to process the truth.
A flicker of emotion crossed Matthew's eyes before being replaced by an icy stare. "Disappointed, are you? Not only is Daphne alive, but she's doing wel. Your plans have failed." Charlotte's gaze turned venomous as she hissed under her breath, "Calvin, you liar!"
Her anger and frustration boiled over, threatening to erupt like a volcano.
Before Charlotte could regain her footing, the sound of sirens echoed from downstairs. Her expression shifted to one of terror as she scrambled to stand, preparing to flee.
But Matthew seized her wrist, his eyes cold and resolute. "Where do you think you're going? I called the police the moment you opened your mouth. You're not going anywhere." Charlotte violently shook off his grip and bolted for the door. Yet before she could even descend the stairs, she was surrounded by officers waiting below. "Charlotte, please come with us."
Charlotte's expression twisted into madness. She attempted to force her way through the police line, shoving officers with all her strength.
Two officers quickly restrained her, and though she struggled desperately, it was futile. Her wide eyes locked onto Matthew, filled with despair and pleading. "Matthew, are you really going to abandon me?" Her voice cracked, laced with sobs as she tried to appeal to his past feelings for her.
But the sight of her pitiful act only filled Matthew with disgust.
He couldn't believe that even in the end, Charlotte was still pretending.
"Charlotte, whatever we had ends here. Take care of yourself."
Hearing this, Charlotte threw her head back and laughed hysterically, her struggles growing more erratic despite the police holding her down.
"Matthew, do you think you're any better? Daphne will never remember you for the rest of her life! Hahaha..."
Her words felt like knives slicing into Matthew's heart.
Years ago, he had allowed someone like Charlotte into his life, and Daphne had suffered immensely because of it.
The thought that Daphne had willingly undergone memory loss surgery just to escape him spoke volumes about the depth of her despair.
As Matthew watched the police take Charlotte away, the house, once filled with life, was now eerily empty.
Sitting on the staircase, he stared at the home that had once been alive with laughter. Now, it was filled only with cold silence and endless memories.
A vivid image flashed in his mind: the day he and Daphne first moved into the house.
"Matthew, let's put a massive TV here so we can lie on the couch together and watch movies!"
"And we'll get a dog to live with us..."
Daphne's cheerful words echoed in his ears. Opening his eyes again, al he saw was the hollow, empty shell of their home.
Tears slipped silently down his cheeks.
