Goodbye -
Chapter 6
Part 6
Steven knew I loved him and he knew the best way to get back at me was to keep me close while reminding me he didn’t love me.
Our wedding anniversary was on March 17th, but he always bought me flowers on February 17th – the day he and Kelly first crossed paths.
After a year of marriage, I got pregnant, but Steven told me to get rid of it. He said, “You’re not worthy of carrying my child yet.”
I didn’t want my baby to grow up in a loveless home, so I followed his orders and terminated the pregnancy.
But when his parents found out, he threw me under the bus, claiming, “She did it all on her own. I had no clue.”
His parents were furious and since I’d played the dutiful daughter–in–law all year, they felt entitled to look down on me. They pointed fingers and hurled insults and as someone still reeling from a miscarriage, I didn’t have the strength to fight back. So, I just took it all in silence.
Steven sat beside me without saying a word, not even sparing me a glance.
Later on, I found out I was pregnant again. This time, I decided to play it smart and went straight to the hospital. I placed the surgical record in front of him.
But Steven lost it. He slammed the table, stood up and yelled, “Why’d you go ahead and do this? Why’d you terminate our child?”
I shot back, “Am I worthy of carrying your child now?”
He clenched his jaw and muttered, “What’s the point of arguing? The baby’s gone. Sabrina, you did it on purpose, didn’t you?
“Cut the act and stop using kids as pawns to get sympathy from me.
“Do
you realize how sickening your behavior is?”
Steven’s outburst left the office in stunned silence. Some thought he was losing it, while others wondered if he was finally speaking his mind.
Xander looked tense, unsure what to say. Steven saw his reaction and suddenly burst out laughing, “Ha! I knew it was a setup!”
He started shouting at the door, “Sabrina, come out! Enough with this act, I’ve figured out your script!”
I smiled to myself. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a script, it was real.
Xander rubbed his forehead, looking helpless. “If you don’t believe it, go to the forensic room and see for yourself. You’d recognize your wife’s body, right?”
Steven’s smile faltered. He glanced around and saw everyone’s serious expressions. No one was joking.
He grabbed the report and saw the bright red seal, one he’d seen countless times. There was no way it was a fake.
Steven’s face went pale. He dropped the report and bolted towards the autopsy room!
