Half Faced Alpha -
Chapter 38
There was a few seconds of silence, before Natalia suddenly raised her hand and landed a cold, deafening slap on Axton's right cheek.
It caused his face to swerve to the left, the force upsetting his hair. His cheek stung, but his heart stung even more.
He turned back to her, his eyes calm. He had expected it. The pure rage he saw in her eyes, the slight tremble in her lips, and the cold, yet painful tears that filled her eyes.
"The good guy thing...it was all a lie?" She asked, trying to blink back the tears that had already reddened her eyes.
He swallowed. "At first, it was a misunderstanding. Then later...I kept it from you because I did not want to lose you."
She burst into crazy laughter as she raised her hand and pushed it into her hair.
"Lose me?"
He kept his head low, his eyes trailed on his feet.
"You are so brazen to talk about losing me when you gave me all those sleepless nights ten years ago!"
"I know. Natalia, I do." His voice shook, and it took him a minute to convince himself he could speak again. "But what could I have done? I can not bring her back. But, I also could mot stand in front of you and tell you just what I did."
She shook her head, taking small steps away from him. Some sentences are incomplete if you are not reading this novel on Ebookex.com. Visit Ebookex.com to read the complete chapters for free. "You did this so I could cure you. You kept it away from me so I could keep being the stupidly ignorant cure you needed to keep yourself healthy while terrorizing every one else! You are despicable, you are destructive, you are the worst person on earth! You are the worst, Axton."
She sat back on the chair, both her palms holding her forehead. She felt her throat close up, and the back of her eyes was on fire.
He stood, unable to even look up to her. "I know that much too. I know, Natalia. I will..." He stopped and sniffed, then gritted his teeth so he wouldn't falter in front of her. "I will tell Beta Scott to take you home. I will ensure you do not see me if you do not want to." She only crouched, her palm covering her now wet face,, her body racking with the tears that flowed down her cheeks to her lips where she could taste the saltiness of her pain.
"I am sorry, Natalia." He said again and his voice broke on her name. It was a name his heart could not bear carrying, a name that broke his heart now just as much as it used to delight it.
She didn't look up, just sat there, her feet propped up on the chair, her head resting on them with her palms covering her face.
He slowly walked out, leaving her to cry as much as she wanted.
He made his way slowly back home, his feet barely able to carry him. Flashes of that night came rushing back into his mind, and when he looked down on his hands, all he could see was the bright red blood. All he could feel was the dampness and the stickiness. He went straight to the bath house and leaned over the water, going on both his knees. He dipped his hand into the water hysterically, rubbing his nails on his palms hard to remove the stain.
When he brought it out, he could still see it. It probably would never leave, but to see Natalia, he had to get it off and he had to do it now.
He leaned forward, the knees of his royal blue tunic soaking up the water that he splashed around from his hysterical cleaning, his eyes entertaining new layers of tears every time he brought his hands out.
He scrubbed till there was actual blood on his hands, the pain spreading through his body, the flesh of his own palms embedded in his fingers.
He leaned back to a sitting position, the tears he had tried so hard to hold back breaking free finally, and not necessarily prettily.
He leaned forward till his head touched the floor and it was only supported by his hands, and he cried like he had only just killed her. Like it was the first time he was seeing it on his hands, like he had no other option. He cried like someone who lost everything, someone who didn't want to go on anymore.
"Alpha?" Beta Scott called, opening the door. He had gone back to the old depot and found Natalia there, alone and passed out.
It made him worry about Axton, but he brought her back safely, tucking her in first before he went on looking for him.
He could hear the sound of running water, and nothing else.
"Alpha, are you there?"
He ran to the bathroom and knocked on it, but there was no answer.
"Alpha?"
He turned the knob and pushed the door open, and there, crouching on the floor, in a pool of water and tears was Alpha Axton.
"Alpha!" He ran towards him, and pulled him backwards, and Axton let his body fall on Beta Scott's.
"What happened? Why are both of you like this?"
Alpha Axton was nuts, and Beta Scott helped him stand up.
He stood, and Beta Scott wrapped his arms around him, then took him out of the bath house. He wrapped his robe around him, then helped him to the side of the bed.
Axton could barely see through the blur of his tears and the sting in his eyes.
"Where is...where is she?"
"I brought her back home. She is asleep in her room."
"Asleep?" Axton asked.
"Yes."
"Take me to see her." Alpha Axton stood, and Beta Scott followed suit.
"I am not sure what happened, but..are you sure that is a good idea?"
Axton swallowed and looked down at his fingers, tears rolling down his cheek again. "She found out, Beta. I will not..." He sniffed, using his sleeve to dab at his face, even though it only served to make his face wetter. "I will not get to see her while she is awake. I have to see her now."
Beta Scott nodded, and obediently helped Axton out of his room.
She was lying, facing the right side when he came in, his body trembling with fresh tears. He slowly, soundlessly went round the bed and sat on the stool next to it.
She was asleep, her lashes still. Somehow, she still had the sadness in her face, and the marks her tears had left on her face were still evident.
"Natalia?" He said in a whisper, bringing his hand to push her hair away.
"Where do I start? Do I start from just how much of a fool I was for so long? Do I start from how despicable I really am?"
He used the back of his hand to wipe his cheeks, and then sniffed hard.
"I did not think a day like this would come. I did not think I would be scared of losing you. But how do I do this now? What do I do now?"
He sniffed again and lowered her head, his fingers clasping around hers.
"I am so sorry. Just take care of yourself till you can forgive me."
He leaned forward, his weight supported by his arms pressed down on the bed just beside her, and he leaned closer to her, then pressed his lips down delicately on the side of hers.
He closed his eyes for a moment, savoring just how forbidden, yet how irresistible it was.
She suddenly opened her eyes as he was leaning back, and their eyes met, his full of raw, abstract emotion, hers full of surprise and...fear.
