He had come on a peaceful and perfect spring day to thewhite tomb by the lake.

“It’s finally over. Iknow you probably knew that it would happen. I just thought you’d like to hear it from me.”

He placed his hand on the polished stone and ran his fingersover the name engraved on it. He pulledback and looked out onto the lake.

“I never had a chance to thank you and how grateful I am toyou for… everything,” he paused and smiled softly at the tomb, “But I’m sureyou knew that too.”

A soft snap sounded from behind him, he turned and saw ared-haired girl coming towards him. Hewatched her as she approached him. Helooked into her eyes and smiled at her. She smiled back at him as came up beside him. She put her hand in his and looked down atthe tomb.

After a few quiet moments she softly spoke, “He’d be proudof you.”

He nodded and gave her hand a quick squeeze. She squeezed back and gave him a brief kisson the cheek.

“Come on. We need toget going or we’ll be late for the farewell dinner and I know McGonagall willnot be happy if we’re late. Especiallyat you.”

He nodded again and looked at her with a quirky smile, “Iheard you thought this would be a boring year.”

She smiled at him and chuckled, “I should have knownbetter,” she looked into his eyes, “But I’m happy how it ended.”

He squeezed her hand and nodded. He turned and looked the tomb of his mentorone last time before turning and walking hand-in-hand with her back towards thecastle.

The end had come.

It was time to let go.
