Lex sat on John’s old-people-couch, as memory after memory flooded her. More horrors… Tears ran free.

“He wants to know if you are okay,” John asked.

“Yeah,” she sniffled and wiped away some tears.

“He loves you now just like then,” she turned to him, “and it’s going to take you forever to see it like it always does.”

“322 lives,” she turned back to the distance, “I nearly killed him twice today.”

“That, was you?”

“Might as well have been. I am tired of getting him killed, killing myself… living.”

He chuckled, “tired of living at least you get intervals not just an endless continuation of this. At least you get to feel deaths relief even for a moment.”

“123,” she mumbled.

John was taking too long Jacob needed to see that she was okay. She looked far from it when she left. He moved and it hurt like hell. He found her book on the bed side table, the nightmares. He couldn’t help but have a little peek which turned into a read.

“You have something people out there spend entire lifetimes without… you two have...” He took a breath, “Quit being stupid already… I am tired of doing this with you two… honestly I am too old for it.”

“I am sorry,” she had remembered so she stood up and walked to him. She lifted her wrist to his mouth and said, “Bite and drink.”

“What.”

“The cure,” she smiled, “I am sorry I took so long… bite…” He bit and there was an instant shift. She flinched at the initial pain.

“Lex,” Jacob murmured, he was in this part. Continued speed reading.

The first blood he had tasted in centuries, “do you know why you bit into people in battle?” she asked as she pulled her wrist away from his mouth, “Because you were trying to replace this blood to clean your energy. Only the first bit. The ones you made they had no need to cleanse their cells to be better than what I had made them.”

He fell to his knees and she helped him onto the old people couch, “death feels nice right,” she asked with a smile.

“Alexandra, thank you for turning me in the first place. You didn’t take life away from me you gave it too. I lived a true life to the very end. I know you love him don’t wait too long death is always watching.”

“Travel well.”

“Live well my daughter,” she squeezed his hand as pain pulsed and burnt through her bleeding wrist, “Live.” He smiled, “finally,” he took a breath and another closed his eyes and aged slowly turning to ash before her eyes as grief hit her.

“John,” she murmured. His ash lifted as if his soul had woken to lift it itself and drifted peacefully to the next world. She picked herself up and walked back to Jacob’s room she had to stop the bleeding and the medical aid stuff was all in there.
