Chapter 505

Out of all the people in the world, why did Nocturne have to bump into Jared?

Agnes couldn't shake the feeling that fate was messing with them. The father and son were destined to meet.

"Mom, are you okay? Are you sick?"

Nocturne asked, reaching out his little hand to touch Agnes' forehead.

Agnes forced a smile, "I'm fine, sweetie. Just glad you're back."

They had dinner together.

Not long after, Nocturne was out like a light.

Agnes tucked him in and headed to Reggie's study

For years, Reggie had been living in Willowbrook Town.

He spent most of his time gardening, running a fast food joint occasionally just to kill time.

Since moving to Manhattan, Agnes hadn't seen much of him.

However, Reggie was very fond of children and had a special fondness for Nocturne.

So every year, Agnes would send Nocturne to spend some time with Reggie in Willowbrook Town.

Agnes came to the door of the study.

She found the door ajar and gave a courtesy knock

Reggie was practicing calligraphy

Looking up, he noticed Agnes at the door.

"What's up, girl? You need something?" Reggie Albert asked.

"Albert, I need a favor," Agnes said as she walked in.

"Spit it out, no need to be polite to me, Reggie put down his brush,

1 want you to take Nocturne back to Willowbrook Town for a while," Agnes came straight to the point.

Reggie replied, "I'd be more than happy to, but you've gotta tell me, is something going on?"

Reggie never pried into Agnes' private life.

Even when he had taken her away, he didn't ask too many questions.

Although Agnes regarded him as an elder, it was still hard to imagine him as the boss of the underworld. Because Reggie didn't bring anything from there into her life.

Their meetings were always casual, like a normal family catch-up

But this time, he was asking about her situation.

"Albert, I can handle my own problems," Agnes shook her head.

Reggie nodded, "A lot of problems, especially emotional ones, can only be solved by yourself. Whatever decision you make, don't look back in regret. If you ever come across something you can't handle, come to me. I've always got your back, for you and Noc"

Agnes felt a lump in her throat.

Reggie was like a real father to her

The father's love that she had lost for so many years seemed to have been made up from him all at once.

Agnes couldn't imagine where she would be without him

Reggie took Nocturne away.

Agnes felt a little more at ease.

She did this to prevent Jared and Nocturne from crossing paths again.

Jared was in Manhattan now, and Agnes wasn't comfortable with that

Sometimes, standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows of her apartment, looking at the city lights.

Agnes always remembered Jared's face in the sunset that evening

He hadn't changed a bit.

Agnes wasn't sure how long Jared would stay in Manhattan.

But the city was huge, and the hadrit run into Jared again. Her life had returned to its peaceful pace

Agnes viewed her encounter with Jared as a minor hiccup

Like a stone thrown into a lake, causing ripples that eventually die down

Their life paths were different to begin with Even if they intersected occasionally, it was just a fleeting moment before each returned to their own track
