Heartstrings on Fire (Agnes and Jared) -
Chapter 633
Agnes felt totally defeated facing Ryder.
She had repeated her words countless times.
Indeed, Ryder did share a similarity with Jared.
They both had an almost masochistic stubbornness.
And these geniuses seemed to always believe in their ability to change the status quo.
Agnes didn't want to talk anymore.
Agnes began, "I'll head back to Manhattan as soon as possible."
After she finished, she turned and walked away.
Agnes went to Jared's bedroom.
The door was open.
Jared was inside.
Nocturne was sitting on the sofa chatting with Jared.
"They told me you're my dad." Nocturne said.
Jared replied calmly, "Yes, I'm your biological father."
"My mom told me I don't have a dad."
"That's because your mom didn't tell you the truth. Every child has a father and a mother."
"I know that, but I thought you guys are divorced."
Jared stayed silent for a moment, then replied, "We are divorced."
A frown appeared on Nocturne's face, "Why did you divorce? Don't you love my mom?"
A hint of pain flashed in Jared's eyes, "You're still young. You wouldn't understand that in this world, loving someone doesn't mean you can be with them. There are many things that your mom and I can't control."
Agnes didn't expect Jared to speak from a child's perspective.
In front of the child, he didn't blame their separation on her.
Even though he hated her so much.
Agnes' heart was filled with bitterness.
Nocturne seemed a little clueless, "Maybe I don't understand adult feelings. Will you guys be together in the future?"
Jared gently touched Nocturne's hair, "We will, I promise. You'll have a complete family."
Nocturne thought for a moment and then said okay.
The room fell into silence again.
Jared suddenly asked, "Could you call me 'dad"?"
Nocturne looked at Jared, calm as ever, "Sorry, I need my mom's permission first."
Jared replied helplessly, "Alright then, just call me Jared."
Hearing this, Agnes couldn't hold back anymore.
She stood at the door, afraid she would soften.
Agnes walked in, "Summer, we should leave."
Nocturne stood up from the sofa, "Mom, you're back."
Nocturne glanced at Jared, said nothing, and didn't ask any questions.
Jared also stood up, "Nocturne can't go with you."
"Jared, I don't want to argue with you in front of our child. You said that if I came back with you to the Whitfield family, there would be a resolution. I came back, hoping you'll keep your promise." Jared's face turned pale, and he said nothing.
He didn't expect Ryder to come back and interfere.
In fact, he had noticed, Tim's attitude wasn't as hard as before.
Jared was confident he could convince Tim.
But everything was ruined by Ryder.
But then again, even if he could convince Tim, what would it change?
This woman's heart was as hard as stone.
Not to mention her relationship with Ryder...
At this moment, Ryder walked in.
Ryder said to Agnes, "Let Nocturne stay here for now. I brought a new medication for him. We'll start him on it today, but I need to monitor his reactions."
Agnes trusted Ryder completely when it came to Nocturne's illness.
She was completely at ease leaving Nocturne with Ryder.
Besides, now that Nocturne's identity had been revealed, there was no need for her to hide anymore.
Also, Agnes had other matters to attend to.
Before going back to Manhattan, she had to replace that remittance slip.
She might need to go to the Capital again to see Laura.
She also needed to replace an opportunity to deal with Alyssa.
Having Nocturne at the Whitfield Manor might be a good chance.
