Agnes turned to replace Jared standing in the doorway.

Incredibly, he was holding Nocturne, and it was still midday.

Agnes was surprised that Nocturne was actually awake.

Usually, Nocturne would only wake up at sunset.

Nocturne happily walked over, calling out, "Mommy."

Agnes caressed Nocturne's chubby little cheeks, "How did you wake up so early today, darling?"

"Ryder gave me a new medicine, and I'm not sleepy at all today," Nocturne explained.

Agnes was thrilled.

She quickly pulled Nocturne towards the elderly woman, "Say hello to your Great-Grandma."

Agnes had told Nocturne a long time ago that he had a great-grandma.

So, Nocturne sweetly greeted, "Hello, Great-Grandma."

The elderly woman was extremely surprised.

Agnes had never mentioned her pregnancy or child to her grandmother.

Mostly because Agnes wanted to protect Jared.

So all these years, Agnes felt guilty towards her grandmother.

Her grandmother was somewhat incredulous, "This child is yours?"

Agnes nodded, "His name is Nocturne, he's four years old. We've been living in Manhattan, so I didn't tell you."

Her grandmother reached out to smack Agnes, "You didn't tell me about him and you've kept it from me for four years. I've been looking forward to a great-grandchild." She immediately turned her attention to Nocturne, "Let's have a look at you, you're handsome just like Jared."

Jared entered the room, smiling, "Looks like I've been dethroned."

Agnes' grandmother rolled her eyes at him, "You all hide things from me, it's like you don't even care about me. I may be old, but I can still look after a child."

Agnes took her grandmother's hand, "Granny, I won't leave you again. Would you come to Manhattan with me?"

Jared frowned slightly.

She gave Agnes a glance, "What's so good about a foreign land? I plan to return to the countryside soon. The place Jared found for me is comfortable but it's not home." Agnes felt a pang in her heart. Her grandmother shouldn't live alone.

Agnes had consulted with the local experts, her grandmother's condition was stable but not optimistic.

Given her age, there were no miracle cures.

All they could do was pray that her condition wouldn't deteriorate too quickly.

Agnes said, "Granny, you don't have to leave with me, but for now, please stay here. I'll have Nocturne come visit you often."

Agnes' grandmother was overjoyed at the sight of her little great-grandson.

Nocturne hadn't had lunch yet.

Knowing that it was Nocturne's birthday, she rushed to prepare food for him.

Then they cut the birthday cake and blew out the candles.

In the afternoon, Agnes' grandmother wanted to make some pies.

She asked Agnes to pick some greens from the garden.

Her grandmother had a small vegetable garden, where she grew various fruits and vegetables.

While Agnes was picking vegetables, Jared was helping her make dough in the small kitchen. Nocturne was curiously feeding lambs in the yard.

In the kitchen, Jared and the grandmother were alone.

While she was preparing the filling for the pies, she asked Jared, "Did you and Aggie divorce?"

Jared was slightly taken aback, "Granny, why would you ask that?"

The grandmother sighed, "I had a hunch. Who takes their child abroad for work and ends up staying for years? These past few years, you haven't visited me together, and Aggie keeps everything from me. You ignore each other when you meet. I figured, you must have parted."
