Heartstrings on Fire (Agnes and Jared) -
Chapter 678
Agnes found herself in a daze again in the cozy private booth of a local pub.
Actually, she wasn't sure what she was thinking about. Her mind was a whirlwind of confusion.
Images of Jared kept popping up now and then. For some unknown reason, Agnes kept having the sensation that Jared was right there by her side. Agnes stood up to leave.
Just as she swung open the door of the private booth, Jared appeared right before her.
Seeing the stern expression on his face, Agnes thought it was just a figment of her overactive imagination.
She quickly took a step back.
That's when she realized, it wasn't her imagination.
The bone-chilling aura that Jared emitted when he was enraged was something she was all too familiar with.
Who else, but Jared, could turn the atmosphere around them into a frigid zone?
However, Agnes was taken aback. She didn't expect Jared to appear before her.
But then again, Agnes thought about it.
It wasn't that strange, this was the Eden Nights, after all, a posh establishment in the Capital where the rich and famous squandered their wealth.
Jared, being a notorious playboy, would be remiss not to visit Eden Nights.
Agnes didn't ask him what he was doing there.
Instead, with a twinkle in her eye, she grinned and said, "Mr. Whitfield, what a coincidence."
His voice was icy cold, seemingly restraining something. "What are you doing here?"
"If you, Mr. Whitfield, can be here, why can't I?"
"I'm a man."
Agnes laughed, "This is something I don't understand. Men can come here to enjoy themselves, but women can't? There are plenty of guys here, we all are the same." Jared's forehead furrowed even more.
Agnes just looked at him, her eyes sparkling like brilliant stars, shining brightly.
She didn't feel guilty at all. But Jared had reached his limit.
He stepped forward, gripped Agnes' arm and pinned her against the door. "Tell me, what is your relationship with Reggie? Why are you here, Agnes? How can you be so shameless?" As Jared said the first part, Agnes was stunned. How did Jared know about Reggie?
One lived under the bright sun, and the other ruled the night. They were from two different worlds. And moreover, Jared directly asked about Reggie as soon as he appeared. He must have known that Reggie had just been here.
Her godfather was not a simple man; anyone who could track him must have been well-prepared and had ulterior motives.
But when she heard the latter half of Jared's sentence, especially the words "shameless," Agnes understood what Jared was thinking.
He actually considered her as...
For a moment, Agnes felt disbelief, followed by a surge of indignation and speechlessness.
But she quickly calmed herself down.
She didn't expect that in Jared's eyes, she had turned into such a person.
But Agnes didn't want to explain. Someone with Jared's mindset didn't deserve her explanation, and Agnes didn't need his understanding or tolerance. Agnes sneered, "Does that have anything to do with you? Mr. Whitfield, you seem to always interfere with my private life these days. What do you mean by this?" Jared coldly stared at the woman in front of him.
He despised the way she spoke, never explaining, just trying to distance herself and constantly saying it had nothing to do with him.
Because she knew that he couldn't possibly leave her alone, and this was the most effective way to infuriate him.
