Heartstrings on Fire (Agnes and Jared) -
Chapter 694
Agnes was still suffering from a headache. She didn't want to think about the rest.
Seeing Beatrice's twisted face and her monstrous demeanor, Agnes felt a pang in her heart.
Yet Beatrice deserved it. She had dug her own grave step by step.
Agnes couldn't justify her actions.
Jared gently placed his hand on Agnes' shoulder, "Alright, you should go back to your room and rest. Don't worry about anything else."
Agnes nodded and retreated to her room.
Beatrice was hunched in the corner of the couch, shivering uncontrollably.
She held her face tightly, her body shaking, mumbling to herself, "This is my face. I've always looked like this, this is who I am. None of you can hurt me."
Jared glanced at Beatrice, furrowed his brows, and dialed a number.
A group of men arrived swiftly, dragging Beatrice away.
As they took her away, Beatrice wailed and howled like a mad woman.
Leo entered the room and glanced at Beatrice, "Don't worry, sir. I'll handle this perfectly. I'll send Beatrice to a plastic surgery clinic. I'll ensure no trace of Ms. Agnes is left on her face." Jared replied, "It doesn't have to be perfect. Just strip her of her current mask. As for her original face, it's not critical. After all, she's undergone so many surgeries, the risks are high."
Leo looked at Jared's cold face and shivered.
He nodded, "I understand, sir. I'll ensure you're satisfied with the result."
Jared nodded, "Alright, you may leave. Go get some chicken noodle soup."
Leo nodded and right before he left, he added, "Sir, Ms. Thomas has been trying to reach you. She said it's urgent but your personal phone has been off so she contacted me." Jared nodded, "I see, I'll call her back later."
Once Leo left, Jared retreated to his bedroom. Agnes was already lying on the bed.
As Jared approached, it seemed as though she was already asleep.
Yet her brows were furrowed, as if she was having a nightmare.
Jared adjusted her blanket and sat by the window.
It had been a long time since he had taken a good look at her face.
Beatrice's face, although surgically altered to look like Agnes - even more perfect in its curvature - made Jared feel as if he was looking at a painting whenever he saw it. Only when he looked at Agnes did his heart soften.
Jared gently held Agnes' hand. She had lost some weight than before.
Her hands used to be soft and plump, like a child's. But now, her fingers were slender, her veins prominent, her skin rougher, and there were even calluses in her palms. Jared had no idea how Agnes had spent the last four years.
A single mother in a foreign land, caring for a son with congenital sleep disorder, seeking treatment and trying to survive.
A sudden wave of pain rushed over him.
He was filled with regret, regret for not replaceing her sooner, for missing out on so much.
Jared sat by Agnes' window for a long time.
It was only when Leo returned with the soup that he left Agnes to rest.
After putting the soup in the fridge, Jared stepped out onto the balcony to call Valeria.
