Alyssa paused for a second as she walked in, remarking, "That outfit looks great on you."

Cilian glanced down at his clothes, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "I dressed up for the occasion just to see you."

Alyssa couldn't help but laugh. "At our age, does it really matter?"

But Cilian's smile was gentle. "It's different because in my heart, you'll always be that carefree little girl."

The term 'little girl' struck a chord in Alyssa.

Why had she ever gotten together with Cilian? Why had she married him on a whim?

Because the first time he saw her, he had called her 'girl' just like Michael...

The thought brought a bitter taste to Alyssa's heart.

In her life, she had destroyed so much with her own hands, but with Cilian, she felt it was a mutual destruction. After all, he was the one who had asked for a divorce.

Alyssa didn't want to dwell on the past. She got straight to the point, "I came here today with two favors to ask of you."

"Go ahead."

"First, I need you to reach out to Dr. Hanson and ask him to come out of retirement. You must know about Jared's son, who has a rare sleeping disorder. He's been treated for a long time, but the results aren't great. I was hoping we could try something else, maybe replace a breakthrough."

"That's not a problem. I'll visit him tonight. Then owe the Thomas family favors, so they'll likely agree if I ask."

Alyssa had expected Cilian's response.

"What's the second favor?" Cilian asked.

Alyssa said, "I want you to withdraw Ryder's power within the Thomas Group. I don't want to wake up one day to replace the Tim Group swallowed up by your empire."

Cilian's brow furrowed slightly, yet he agreed without a moment's hesitation, a response that took Alyssa by surprise.

The first favor she could have easily asked for over the phone, knowing Cilian would help. She didn't have to travel all the way to the Capital.

But she had anticipated a lengthy negotiation about the second favor, discussing terms and conditions.

After all, for years, Cilian's biggest dream was to have Ryder take over the company.

Now that Ryder had finally become the managing director of the Thomas Group, how could Cilian give that up so easily?

Alyssa, puzzled, asked, "Don't you have any conditions?"

"Alyssa, I will never have conditions when it comes to you."

Alyssa chuckled, "You could have asked for anything. It's not like we owe each other anything."

Cilian stepped closer and said, "Truth is, I've regretted a lot over the years, and I've missed you."

Alyssa instinctively stepped back. "Mr. Thomas, we can discuss anything but let's leave feelings out of it."

Seeing Alyssa's reaction, Cilian stepped back as well. "Alright, we can discuss our feelings later. For now, let's talk about our son." Agnes had been waiting in the lounge.

The door to the lounge was made of transparent glass with a frosted strip in the middle.

Agnes was lost in thought about her previous visit to the Capital, just three months earlier.

In what felt like an exceedingly short span of time, so much had transpired.

As she turned her head, she caught a fleeting shadow outside the glass door. Her heart clenched instantly.

Was she hallucinating?

Agnes thought she saw Berlin Thomas, but wasn't Berlin serving a six-year sentence for manslaughter? He should be behind bars... It was Agnes who had put him there.
