Her Rebirth of Retribution -
Chapter 53 The Man Behind Her Stepmother And Illegitimate Sister
Calista's chest tightened when she saw that her stepmother was full of confidence.
It seemed like Yelena was getting one of her backers to help her and things were getting interesting. But Calista wasn't sure if it was going to be the head of the Langleys, or that person... But this was a small matter and so Yelena probably wouldn't look for that person, so it was probably the head of the Langleys.
After calculating the odds, Calista quickly texted Jarrett.
The car reached the police station very quickly, but they weren't able to see Jonathan immediately because there were others seeing him at the moment.
The police officers were very puzzled by this, "Who is this Jonathan Larkin? It's only been a while since we caught him and there are already three or four parties trying to see him."
Calista overheard their comments and had a bad feeling about things, but then she quickly relaxed again.
If Yelena had gotten the head of the Langleys to threaten Jonathan, then Jarrett's appearance would be enough to make Jonathan stay on her side. Plus, she had that thumb drive with her, so she was definitely going to win this case.
Benedict pulled a glum face and didn't say anything, and he was quieter than usual. Recently his elder daughter had given him a terrible headache, and his younger daughter's plight had given him heartache. He too, wished that this whole thing wasn't Callie's doing, but Yelena was also right in saying that Callie was ill and one couldn't judge her thoughts like a normal person.
Calista saw that all three of them weren't talking, so she smiled coldly and walked out.
She was about to give Jarrett a call when suddenly she was dragged into a storeroom and pushed hard onto the floor.
Calista got a shock and wanted to scream, but before she could do that, someone squeezed his hands around her neck, ready to strangle her.
Even with just one look, she knew who it was and her eyes widened. She didn't think Yelena dared to replace this person to help!
But that didn't sound right. If Yelena had looked for him, he would have simply sent anyone to help, and not this particular man.
"Calista...?"
The other party's voice was as cold as a venomous snake, and Calista's strength had not returned fully to her. No...even if she had recovered completely, she was no match for this man.
"Do you know why I've come looking for you?"
He asked mockingly, his hands squeezing her neck tightly, as if he was going to strangle her to death but left a small bit of air for her to keep living.
Calista's feet were slowly lifted off the ground. Her struggling was futile and her brain was slowly losing oxygen. She didn't want to use the needle in her hand because she was counting on him to not kill her, and she couldn't expose her abilities too early on. As expected, the man suddenly let go of her and smoothed his clothes down.
Calista was suddenly able to breathe again, and she collapsed on the floor panting. She glared back at this man, her eyes full of intense hatred.
"Come to think of it, you don't know who I am, so let me introduce myself." The man smiled slightly, as if he was a real gentleman.
"My name is Sterling Wolford. I'm not sure if you've heard of the Wolford family in Summerbank?"
Calista was panting while smiling coldly. Of course she knew which Wolford family he was talking about, and she even knew why he was helping Yelena.
Sterling looked down pitifully at Calista. To him, the Staffords were small fry.
"Do you know why I've dragged you here? I didn't want to either, but you tried to harm something I like, and I happened to be in Horington, so I thought I'd drop by to teach you a lesson, so that you learn who you can touch, and who you can't." Haha! Something he likes!
Calista's eyes were bloodshot, and she smiled threateningly.
So she was just unlucky to have done this at a time when Sterling was in Horington. And Sterling said he liked Quincy, but those were all lies!
Sterling had made a huge sacrifice to cover up his real motive.
Quincy at this time probably didn't know it herself that she wasn't a daughter of the Stafford family, but she was actually the illegitimate daughter of the head of the Wolford family, Harvey Wolford.
And this man in front of her was Harvey's godson.
Harvey hated Yelena and naturally did not care for her child. But perhaps Harvey had done too many evil things in his life, so he had no other children besides Quincy, and so he allowed Yelena to look for him for help as a last resort on account of Quincy. This background story was quite complicated, but Calista knew that since Sterling had appeared, then today's case was going to be difficult to handle.
When he saw that Calista didn't say
anything, Sterling was a bit annoyed
and said, "What are you thinking about? Jonathan?" He continued gleefully Don't worry, I've already settled Jonathan's case. He's going to say you're the one who instigated him, and soon enough the police will replace evidence of you buying those drugs illegally. Also, Mr. Sinclair can't help you either, so if nothing goes wrong, you're going to jail, Ms. Stafford."
Calista's heart dropped a little, and she slowly staggered back up on her feet. "Are you done talking? Can I go now?"
Sterling raised an eyebrow. "Of course. I'm a kind person - I just want you to go to jail, but I don't intend to kill you, so you don't have to worry about that."
Calista felt deep disgust in her heart
because she knew she was facing a terribly vicious and evil man. The Fairchilds were a beacon of lightin the ocean and always helping others, while the Wolfords were like a trap in the dark forest and always harming others!
She suppressed the hatred in her and started walking towards the door, but just as she tried to open the door, Sterling pressed her against the door.
Sterling felt that this trip was really worth his time. He'd never thought that this worthless Stafford family had such a special young lady.
Calista held onto her needle and was ready to strike anytime. Her needle couldn't hurt others, but it could make one numb for a while. But if she attacked him, then he would become defensive and she might attract unnecessary attention. "What now? Didn't you say you'd let me go?" Her voice was very calm and quiet, and this was the strangest thing about her.
Sterling curled his lips into a smile, "Sure you can go, but Ms. Stafford, there's one more thing you haven't given me."
Then he immediately proceeded to search her body.
He patted her down without reservations, and Calista was about to lose all patience when he found a thumb drive and raised an eyebrow at it.
"Ms. Stafford, it won't do you any good to keep this, so you'd better give it to me."
Calista had clenched her teeth so hard that they were chattering, but then she was no match for this man even in her previous life after thirty years. Now she had been reborn for only a while, so she wasn't going to fight with him. "Are you done now? Can I go?"
Sterling took in a deep breath and said regretfully, "You smell so nice...and you feel so good."
Just when Calista was about to insert a needle into him, he finally let go of Calista.
"A pity you're going to jail, and I can't bail you out, otherwise I'm not letting you go for sure." Calista pushed him aside hard.
"I feel the opposite way, I feel like puking the moment I see you, so stay far away from me!" Sterling laughed coldly and wanted to respond, but Calista had opened the door and left.
All the parts of her body that were touched by him earlier started to feel very cold, and Calista wanted to take a good shower right now. But then the moment she came back out, Yelena caught hold of her. Her face was full of confidence, and she said with a wily smile, "Callie, let's go, it's our turn to see Jonathan."
Calista's phone received a text from Jarrett: Sorry, Jonathan has already been bribed by someone else.
