chapter 6

After three agonizing days, my transfer approval finally came through.

I could now choose a date to leave my current post and report to the provincial office within the stipulated time. When Young, my instructor, handed me the notification, I couldn’t help but shed tears.

He was delighted and asked, “When do you plan to leave?”

“Tomorrow,” I replied.

Ian was returning from the city tomorrow, and since we were in the same unit, he had offered to travel back with me. “So soon?” Young frowned. “Aren’t you going to say goodbye to everyone?”

“Next time,” I said.

“Is it because of Yannis?” he asked.

I shook my head with a bitter smile.

It wasn’t really about Yannis; I just didn’t like farewells.

Whether I said goodbye or not didn’t matter to me.

Young knew my personality well and didn’t press further. He just wished me well and saw me off at the gate.

Before leaving, I asked him to remove my promotional materials as soon as possible.

He understood and assured me it would be done.

I saluted him one last time and left the place where I had worked for five

What I didn’t tell him was that I had lied.

I was leaving tonight.

When I stepped outside, Ian was already waiting.

Seeing him, tears streamed down my face.

“Are you ready? Let’s go.”

Ian said, patting my shoulder and giving me a big hug.

Clutching my appointment letter tightly, I got into his car.

years.

Ian sat in the passenger seat, silently watching me cry and handing me tissues.

I took them, sobbing even harder.

After a while, I finally calmed down.

“Done crying?” he asked.

I nodded blankly.

He looked at the road, as if he had something to say but held back.

I looked at him and smiled, “I must look pathetic, right?”

He shook his head. “Do you still want to live?”

He asked, echoing the question he had asked when he saved me. This time, I could finally answer him.

“Yes, I want to live.”

His eyes flickered with an unreadable emotion.

“Then live well,” he said.
