Chapter 147

Right now, Thaddeus’s inner world was like a storm, hidden under his broodingly handsome face.

On the other hand, Evadne wasn’t nearly as complicated. She just felt simply puzzled. What a rotten day!

Meeting this annoying man in such a beautiful and romantic place was like a rose falling in dog poop, totally ruining the view. She’d better check her horoscope before going out next time.

As for Acacia, the woman with the man, one look at her made Evadne’s eyes hurt.

Just then, the towering Avery leaned towards her, his thin l*ps close to her ear. He whispered with a soft chuckle, “Don’t sweat it. I’m here.”

Evadne’s ears perked up. What was the rush all about?

“Ms. Evadne, what a surprise to bump into you here.”

Acacia, putting away her usual sharpness, asked in a gentle tone, “Is this gentleman your new boyfriend? You two seem perfect for each other.”

Evadne’s eyes were calm. She clearly had no interest in entertaining this hypocrite.

However, Avery answered with a hint of a smile, “Thanks for the compliment, but I’m not Ms. Evadne’s boyfriend just yet.”

Evadne was taken aback by this.

Hearing this. Thaddeus clenched his fist, his face going cold.

Did “not yet” mean he was eventually gonna be Evadne’s boyfriend?

Was Avery saying this to provoke him, to tease him, or were they in a relationship that he couldn’t accept?

Acacia noticed Thaddeus’s furrowed brow, his arm muscles tight under her grip, and it dawned on her that he still couldn’t let go of this woman!

But Evadne had a new love interest now, which eased Acacia’s worries a bit.

Someone had to let go of their three-year marriage!

Evadne was quite the man-magnet, who’s this rich guy now?

He had an exceptional aura and was pretty handsome too.

“Mr. Thaddeus, are you here to enjoy the flowers with your fiancée?”

Avery gave a faint smile, “You’d better hurry though. Rose Manor is about to close.”

“I don’t have such refined tastes.”

Thaddeus met his gaze, hostility flashing in his eyes. He deliberately ignored Evadne, “Mr. Gordon, get in touch with the person in charge of Rose Manor. I want to discuss a business deal.”

“Yes, Mr. Thaddeus.” Gordon quickly took out his phone and dialed.

A few seconds later, a phone rang.

Everyone heard it, and the sound was getting closer!

“Weird, sounds like the guy’s nearby.” Gordon scratched his head, looking confused.

By this time, the ringing was right next to them!

“Mr. Chambers.”

Thaddeus was stunned, as he saw a man approach Avery with the ringing phone in his hand!

“Mr. Chambers, you have a call.”

The secretary handed the phone to Avery respectfully, not forgetting to shoot Thaddeus a contemptuous glance.

Avery chuckled as if nothing had happened. He glanced at the phone screen and hung up effortlessly.

The call on Gordon’s side also got disconnected.

Gordon held his phone, mouth agape. He looked shell-shocked.

Thaddeus blinked in disbelief, his face turning pale.

“Mr. Thaddeus, the owner of Rose Manor you’re looking for is me. But unfortunately, I already have a partner. Seems like you made a wasted trip.”

Avery turned to Evadne, “Ms. Evadne, I’ve accepted your partnership proposal.”

Evadne’s eyes widened as she saw the man extend his hand to her.

“Looking forward to our collaboration.”

She caught a glimpse of Thaddeus’s grim face, his eyes turning bloodshot.

Seeing him frustrated thrilled her, but winning so easily also felt like she was bullying him.

Oh well, she’d savor the victory first!

So, Evadne smiled faintly, her cheeks dimpling cutely. She reached out to shake hands with Avery. “Here’s to a successful partnership, Mr. Chambers.”

Everyone from the Abernathy Group watched, and Gordon felt dizzy.

Acacia tried to comfort Thaddeus, “Thad, don’t worry. It’s just a garden. There are plenty like it back home. We can partner with others.”

Thaddeus abruptly pulled his arm away from her, causing her to lose balance and fall backwards awkwardly.

“Shall we go, Mr. Chambers?” Evadne didn’t spare them another glance, just smiled at Avery.

“Sure, I’ve made reservations at a restaurant. We can head there whenever.”

They shared a laugh, making Thaddeus feel like someone was choking his throat He frowned

He walked up quickly, blocking Avery’s way.

“Mr. Chambers, can we have a private talk?” His tone remained firm, not showing any signs of weakness from the failed negotiation.

“If it’s about Rose Manor, I don’t think we have anything to discuss.” Avery had no interest in wasting time with him.

“What if it’s about something else?”

Saying this. Thaddeus glanced at Evadne.

A moment later.

Avery took Thaddeus to a pavilion in Rose Manor.

They sat facing each other, surrounded by vibrant flowers, but the atmosphere was as chilling as an Icehouse.

“Mr. Thaddeus, please keep it short. I have a date with Ms. Evadne.” Avery glanced at his watch, clearly impatient.

“A date? I thought you were discussing a partnership.”

Thaddeus wouldn’t stand losing to anyone, especially when it came to Evadne. His instincts told him not to let Avery get the upper hand, “Maybe that’s just your wishful thinking. Evadne was my wife for three years. I know her better than you.”

“Oh really?” Avery shrugged and laughed dismissively. “Just a three-year relationship, and you didn’t even love her. What makes you so confident that you know Evadne better than me?”

Thaddeus was furious, clenching his fists, his eyes flashing with cold light, “Have you been digging dirt on me?”

Avery chuckled, shaking his head, “Everything I’ve done is for Evadne. You’re irrelevant in this matter. My partnership with Evadne isn’t about stealing your opportunities. She’s the one I’ve been waiting for, and I won’t let anyone else interfere. I know your guys have been contacting mine. I just haven’t had the chance to tell you that I never intended to work with the Abernathy Group from the beginning.”

Every sentence he uttered was laced with the way he called Evadne’s name, showcasing their close relationship.

Thaddeus took a deep breath, his eyes filled with mixed emotions. He said to Avery, “You may have just returned to the country, but I’m not clueless about you. Evadne might fall for your facade, but I won’t. I know all about your shenanigans abroad.”

He knew about Avery’s decadent lifestyle abroad, indulging in money and desire. But he managed to completely hide his true nature in front of Evadne, showing how cun ning he

was.

Thaddeus knew it. They were divorced now, and Evadne’s life no longer had anything to do with him. But seeing her getting closer to Avery, he felt angry, resentful, and scared.

Avery gave a small smile, gently pushing up his gla**es, but he didn’t refute.

Thaddeus’s face was stormy, “You have many women around you, but Evadne is not someone you can just toy with. She is not someone you can pursue on a whim.”

Hearing this, Avery couldn’t help but snort, “It’s weird. If you care about Evadne so much, and you’re so concerned about her, why did you divorce her in the first place and marry someone else?”

His words hit Thaddeus right where it hurt, his heart felt numb.

Avery said coldly, “I know what kind of person I am. Even though I’ve done a lot of bad things, but my feelings for Evadne are sincere and loyal. But look at you, you married her yet lusted after others, hurting her deeply. I think anyone in this world, except you, has the right to criticize me.”

Avery’s words left Thaddeus speechless, “Whether you regret it now or not, you’re divorced. She has nothing to do with you anymore.”

With that, he got up and walked out, then stopped and looked back at Thaddeus who was still sitting there.

“My pursuit of her was planned long ago. Your three years are not worth mentioning.”

Thaddeus sat alone in the pavilion. Recalling Avery’s words, his face pale, his b*dy slightly trembling.
