Chapter 151

Acacia had been busting her chops preparing for her birthday bash.

She’s finally full of beans, no longer weak and bedridden like before. She’s not just booking the venue, but also sorting out her dress and makeup. If you didn’t know better, you’d think she was prepping for an engagement party.

Throughout this. Thaddeus had stayed hands-off. Seeing her on the up and up, he hadn’t been back to the hospital to check on her.

Acacia was a bit miffed about this of course; but right now, planning her birthday bash was a top priority.

The night before the party, Acacia was trying on the dress she borrowed from Camille in her room.

She’s slender, but the bust of the dress was too loose for her slim figure Her two maids were sweating bullets but still couldn’t make the dress fit.

“You bunch of klutzes. Why did we even hire such duds!” Acacia barked. Her cheeks flushed with anger while she was pushing one of the maids in frustration.

“Miss, how about… we get a tailor to alter it a bit, or maybe use some safety pins to hold it in place…” one of the maids nervously suggested.

Acacia was sweating bullets in frustration. She didn’t let on that she’s actually just unwilling to pay for damages.

The dress was worth a six-figure sum, and she’s already signed an agreement.

If she dirtied, damaged, altered or even pinned it, she’d have to pay Camille five times the compensation. Never mind how much that is, Camille and Evadne were in cahoots. She’s not gonna let that woman make a penny off her!

“Go get me some tape, now! Chop chop!”

Soon, the maids brought the tape, sticking it inside the bust of the dress, and put it on Acacia. Lo and behold, the dress fitted snugly.

“Miss, you’re so clever! This trick really works!” One maid flattered.

Acacia let out a sigh of relief with a smug look on her face.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door. Una came in, looking anxious.

“Mom!” Acacia shouted.

“You all get out!” Then Acacia quickly ordered the maids.

The maids quickly left the room. Una locked the door.

“Mom, how did it go?” Acacia rushed up to her anxiously.

“It’s all taken care of.” Una gripped her daughter’s hand, her palm cold.

“Mom, thank you.”

Acacia gripped Una’s hand tightly, her eyes dark, “Mom, you’ve been so good to me. I’ll pay you back for sure!”

“You’re my flesh and blood. Of course I’d help you.”

Una looked pale but her eyes were resolute, “Now that you and Thaddeus are back together, and Frederic is so supportive of your marriage. We’re just one step away and we can’t give up now! I won’t let anyone or anything stand in your way of joining high society!”

The long-awaited birthday bash finally arrived the next evening.

The Stirling group had booked the largest banquet hall at the Abernathy Hotel to host the guests, a show of the close ties between the two families.

To support her niece, Elspeth had invited many influential guests from Elmsworth and even nationwide under Frederic’s name. People could compare its grandiosity with her own wedding.

At that moment, the banquet hall was lavishly decorated with melodious music and dazzling attire.

The elites and tycoons of Elmsworth were here solely because of Frederic.

Despite Elspeth’s previous investigation by the police, the negative incidents were eventually proven to be her cousin’s doing. Now she was back in full force, looking radiant, arm in arm with her husband, laughing and chatting with the guests.

“Mr. Frederic, Elspeth, congratulations!”

Today is my darling niece’s birthday, you should congratulate her,” Elspeth was richly dressed and cheerful tonight.

*Ms. Acacia is Mr. Frederic’s fiancée so I guess they are getting married soon, right? We should congratulate both of you. The Abernathy family is about to welcome a new member!”

“Hahaha, thank you!”

Meanwhile, Glynnis and several familiar rich girls were laughing heartily.

“Congratulations, Glynnis, you’re about to have a sister-in-law.” One rich girl laughed.

“Ah, you’re not quite right there. It should be another sister-in-law.”

Another rich girl teased, “Anyhow, out with the old, in with the new, right? Plus, Ms. Acacia is Elspeth’s niece. You guys will surely get along, won’t you?”

Glynnis forced a smile but cursed internally.

“I heard that Ms. Acacia and Mr. Frederic knew each other years ago and went through all kinds of trials to finally be together. Mr. Frederic is about to marry her right after his divorce so they must be truly in love. Glynnis, your brother is lucky. When will you introduce a boyfriend to us?”

Glynnis eagerly scanned the room on hearing this, searching for her sweetheart, Mr. Jareth.

Meanwhile, Mr. Jareth was in a room with Thaddeus.

Dressed in tailored suits, they were sitting in front of a huge floor-to-ceiling window in a luxury presidential suite.

Jareth was wearing a custom white suit with a black shirt, a black leather tie with a gold rose pendant around his n*eck. His lavish and se xy look was quite eye-catching.

10:51

Thaddeus, as always, was in a black suit and tie of the same color scheme. The gold pin at his collar was the icing on the cake, showcasing his taste and the authority of the powerful.

“Oh my go d.”

Jareth felt the man next to him was too darkly dressed. He couldn’t help but tease, “If you dress like this, people who don’t know you might think you’re here for a funeral” Thaddeus narrowed his cold eyes as he retorted, “So wearing black means going to a funeral, and wearing white doesn’t?”

“Seriously, dude, I’ve realized how fair life really is. It gives you a handsome face, but pairs it with a mouth that spews trash. It’s perfect, really!” Jareth teased when his gaze suddenly caught on Thaddeus’ tie pin, “Hey. This little tie pin of yours is pretty unique. Mind if I borrow it sometime?”

Thaddeus’ eyes flickered and there was a stern look on his face. He retorted, “In your dreams.”

“Tsk…We used to be so close we’d even share underwear, and now you’re all uptight about lending me a tie pin? Age really does make you stingy, huh?”

At this point, Gordon hurried over.

“Mr. Thaddeus, Ms. Acacia sent someone over to remind you that the birthday banquet speeches are about to start. She’s asking you to join her on stage.”

“I’m not going.” Thaddeus replied coldly.

“Great! I’ll go tell her right now that you’re not coming!” Gordon said gleefully.

He reveled in Acacia’s misfortune. It made his day.

“That young lady just recently self-harmed due to depression, and she’s only just started recovering. You don’t mind pushing her over the edge again, do you?” Jareth side-eyed him, his tone mocking.

“I can’t share the stage with her tonight,” Thaddeus said with a flat tone and a somber look.

“Why not? Aren’t you her boyfriend?”

“I’ve decided to break up with her.”

Jareth looked surprised at this revelation.

Gordon was even more shocked. He was almost shouting in shock!

“I haven’t told her yet because I was worried about her condition,” Thaddeus looked down, his voice steady, “Once she’s stable, I’ll tell her. I’ll try to lessen the blow as much as possible. After all, she did save my life once.”

Jareth blinked, as if he’d figured something out. He suddenly leaned in close to Thaddeus.

“Thad, be honest with me. Is part of you breaking up with Acacia because you’ve got feelings for Evadne? Is it?”

Thaddeus felt a pang in his chest, and he felt he’s paused for breath.

Then, struggling, he answered, “No.”
