Chapter 159

Even though Evadne had left the hospital, she was still concerned about Mr. Hamiltion’s condition.

She planned to contact Suri when she got back, after all, the Bright family had a long line of doctors, their medical techniques were top-notch in their country, and she hoped to replace a way to cure Mr. Hamiltion’s disease.

On the way home, Arnold was busy surfing the internet. Whenever he found interesting comments about Acacia, he would read them out loud to Evadne.

“LOL… I usually replace these keyboard warriors annoying, but now I kind of replace them amusing! Some of these comments are da mn hilarious, I got to save some!” Arnold was scrolling through all kinds of nasty comments, laughing so hard that tears were about to come out.

Looking out the car window, Evadne recalled the golden tie pin Thaddeus had worn that night and felt a surge of disgust.

All the gifts she had given him were a disgrace, and a painful memory to her.

She would rather destroy them with her own hands than let them have any connection with Thaddeus.

“Evadne. Una and George are under Aaron’s control, they’re in his office,” Cas sius gently placed his hand on the back of Evadne’s n*eck, providing some comfort, “Aaron just messaged, George confessed his crimes after he was taken away. But Una didn’t give anything away, no matter what Aaron asked, she insisted it was all her idea.”

“Una might be cold-blooded, but she is also a mother.”

Evadne composed her messy emotions stirred up by Thaddeus. Her voice was crisp and indifferent, “With Mr. Stirling seriously ill, her eldest son in jail, her only hope was Acacia. It was normal for a mother to protect her child with whatever she got.”

Evadne had carefully planned, not only luring Una out but also setting a trap.

She had Jason follow Una abroad. Una, although cun ning, was just a spoiled lady with no counter-surveillance skills. She didn’t realize that she was being followed, so Jason easily tracked her to the orphanage where her illegitimate daughter was hidden from the public eye.

In Jason’s words, it was like a refugee camp for children.

Seeing the d*rty, pitiful orphans like beggars, Jason’s heart ached. He wanted to uproot Una and Acacia; such cruel women shouldn’t exist in this world!

Una took the girl away from the orphanage, but she didn’t even dare to kill a chicken, let alone a person. So, she hired a poor local woman to try and kill the girl.

Luckily, Jason saved the girl in the end, and used Evadne’s private plane to bring her back to Elmsworth. The girl was at the police station, well protected and finally secured.

“That girl is Una’s granddaughter, the child of her pregnant daughter. She actually wanted to kill her!”

Cas sius’s eyes darkened as he angrily said, “So, she doesn’t really love her granddaughter. All of this is just a cold calculation, weighing the pros and cons. All she wants is for her daughter to have a smooth path in the upper cla**.”

Evadne nodded, “Indeed.”

“Evadne, don’t worry. Aaron and I will make sure Una serves time in prison, and as for George… hehe,”

Arnold let out a sinister laugh, cracking his knuckles as he continued to say, “He thinks once he’s in prison, it’s all over? Nah, his nightmare is just beginning!”

The birthday party had turned the whole Abernathy group upside down.

Thaddeus had been in the hospital with his grandfather all that time, while Frederic and his wife hadn’t come to see Mr. Hamiltion yet. They were probably too caught up with the mess caused by Una and Acacia and couldn’t handle the pressure to think about anything else.

“Mr. Thaddeus, there are lots of negative comments about you online, do you want the PR department to handle it?” Gordon asked worriedly as he was concerned that Mr. Thaddeus’ reputation would take a serious hit.

Thaddeus was sitting helplessly in the hallway, looking pale and dull.

He had one knee bent, the other straight, his head leaning against the cold wall, and his n*eck forming a lonely arc. Even in despair, he looked stunning.

“Do they have it wrong? I think they’re right. Let them talk.”

Thaddeus closed his eyes, loosened his tie, but still felt breathless as he blamed it on himself, “I deserve it.”

“Mr. Thaddeus, don’t say that.”

Gordon choked back a s ob, “You were deceived by Acacia too, you’re also a victim.”

Victim.

Thaddeus frowned, his heart ached. But the only victim he could think of was Evadne.

And he once was a tool in Acacia’s hands, helping her do evil things.

The harm he received was from Acacia, but wasn’t the harm Evadne received from him?

“Mr. Thaddeus!”

From the other end of the hallway, Alva ran towards him, carrying bags.

“Alva!” Thaddeus stood up quickly to help her with the bags, “Why are you here?”

“I heard from Gordon that Mr. Hamiltion was hospitalized, and you’d be staying overnight, so I brought toiletries and a set of clothes for you. I also brought some late-night snacks, and you and Gordon can eat these together.”

Alva had Thaddeus sit back down and started unpacking the food containers.

“Alva, I’m not hungry. Let Gordon eat,” Thaddeus looked at the still steaming food in the container, feeling a touch of warmth.

But with all that had happened, even if he had adjusted his mindset, he had no appetite.

“I ain’t hungry either! Thanks for the thought, Alva!” Gordon quickly shook his head, if the boss wasn’t eating, how could he, as the a**istant, dare to take a bite?

“Y’all eat up!”

Alva looked at Thaddeus’ obviously tired face, picked up a piece of bread and roughly shoved it into his mouth, “You’re all worn out because of that phony woman, Acacia, and now you’re even ski pping meals? Don’t you have any self-respect left in you? Don’t make me lose respect for you!”

.

Thaddeus couldn’t help but give a bitter smile, reluctantly chewing as he protested, “Who said it was because of her?”

“Then why are you so down in the dumps? Is it because of Mrs. Abernathy?” Alva blinked.

Thaddeus blushed, whether out of embarra**ment or being choked as he calmly said, “It’s because of my grandpa.”

“Mr. Thaddeus, you’re in the hospital now, why don’t you get a CT scan tomorrow morning?”

Alva glanced at him sideways, her tone teasing. “Let’s see if you’re really regretful or not.”

Gordon quietly gave a thumbs-up behind his back, Alva was really brave, she spoke her mind!

“Alva.”

Thaddeus’ throat was a bit choked up, but he coldly said, “It was my fault in the past, I hurt Evadne for Acacia. But even without Acacia, I would have divorced Evadne. Our marriage was arranged by my grandpa, we had no emotional foundation. In the end, we would have separated. There’s nothing to regret.”

“Three years, a whole three years, Mr. Thaddeus! Mrs. Abernathy loved you with all her heart, anyone, no matter how cold, would be moved by her love, don’t you have any feelings for Mrs. Abernathy at all? Not even a tiny bit?!” Alva asked, her throat dry from the intensity of her words.

“I don’t love Evadne.”

Thaddeus’ heart trembled, his thin l*ps dry, he said word by word, “But, since I don’t love her, why did I marry her?”

Hearing these words, Gordon felt a sense of loss and sorrow.

He believed that Thaddeus did have feelings for Mrs. Abernathy, he surely had.

It was just that the shadow of his childhood, his mother’s suicide, the indifference of his relatives, the use and betrayal of his benefactor in his youth, made it hard for Thaddeus to trust others, to face his emotions, to open his heart.

“Mr. Thaddeus, admitting mistakes, apologizing, regretting, these things don’t make you less of a person. What’s dignity compared to your happiness? As long as you can be happy. I’m willing to put down my pride and help you win back Mrs. Abernathy!” Alva sighed deeply.

Thaddeus frowned slightly, “Alva…”

“Me too, me too!”

Gordon quickly raised his hand, saying “Forget about putting down my pride, I’ll do anything to help you get her back!”

Thaddeus frowned.

“By the way, Mr. Thaddeus!”

Alva hurriedly took out a recorder from her pocket and handed it to him, “A pretty decent-looking guy came to my house tonight and gave me this, said it was for you.”

Thaddeus took it and curiously asked, “Who gave it to you?”

“The guy said that he was from the Dempsey family.”

Thaddeus and Gordon looked at each other, and then pressed the play button.
