Chapter 171

When Avery started mocking, Byron’s face instantly changed, his fists clenched tight.

The folks of the Ashbourne family didn’t make a peep, but Jeff suddenly got a brainwave at this moment, his gaze towards Avery filled with fury.

“Evadne, women should have some warm drinks. I’ve got someone to prepare a hot liquor for you. A little won’t hurt,” Avery said with a gentle smile, ignoring the visibly upset Byron.

“Uh, I can drink anything actually.”

Evadne, sandwiched between the two young masters of the Chambers family, felt somewhat uneasy and tried not to attract their attention, awkwardly laughing, “But, I’d rather have a beer.”

However, the Chambers brothers both looked at her at the same moment, speaking in unison, “No way! You’ll get gout!”

The banquet was about to wrap up, Avery stood up to take a temporary leave, heading to the restroom.

At the sink, Avery kept squeezing hand soap onto his palms, his hands looking like a fine specimen preserved in formalin, furiously rubbing, his skin turning red.

He washed five times, lifting his hands to smell, but still detecting the fishy smell, and he squeezed more soap and carefully cleaned each finger.

At this moment, the restroom door was pushed open.

Byron walked in with a gloomy countenance. Seeing Avery obsessively washing his hands, he couldn’t help but tease, “You’re really having a hard time. Peeling shrimps all night for Ms. Evadne must be a real struggle for a clean freak like you. I bet you’ll be washing hands in your dreams tonight, right?”

Avery was unfazed by his mockery, just picking up a few paper towels and drying his hands with grace.

“Avery, long time no see. I thought you might have picked up some grand skills at Helgen.”

Byron sneered, “Turned out you’ve just learned how to curry favor, huh?”

“Oh, are you jealous, Byron?”

Avery gave a slight smile, nonchalantly saying, “After all, in front of Evadne, you didn’t even have the chance to suck up, did you?”

“You!”

“Compared to you, who’s desperately looking for opportunities outside, unable to get close to Evadne, and freaking out, my role of currying favor is obviously more valuable.”

Byron’s eyes turned red from anger, and he laughed, “Haha. No wonder Dad never liked you. Your brain really has a problem. Instead of being a decent person, you insist on sucking up to others.”

“In this world, any means to achieve the goal is fair”

Avery tossed the paper into the bin, smiling, “You never liked talking to me. Why suddenly so chatty tonight? Could it be, seeing my relationship with Evadne getting better, you are starting to feel anxious? Watching your plans fail, do you feel even worse at sucking up?”

“Avery! Don’t get co cky too soon! I’m telling you, Dad will never agree to you being with Miss Ashbourne! Do you think you can compete with me?!” Byron was really desperate, grinding his teeth in anger!

“It’s not up to you to decide who’s worthy.”

Avery slowly turned around to look at the man with reddened eyes, his deep gaze slightly narrowed, adjusting his gold-rimmed gla**es, “As for Evadne, I am determined to have her.”

As expected, Byron left angrily, slamming the door.

Avery’s smile disappeared, his fist clenched tight.

At this moment, his phone vibrated in his pocket, and he answered the call indifferently, “What’s up?”

“Mr. Chambers, there’s something. Please stay calm after you hear it.”

The secretary paused, speaking in a low voice, “Thaddeus is here. He’s right outside the Ashbourne family’s entrance! He came alone!”

Avery’s eyes shrank, and he replied coldly, “Got it.”

At this moment, Thaddeus stood alone under the streetlight across from Silverlake Harbor, wearing a thin suit.

Even though Skyrim was a coastal city, it’s already late autumn, and the night wind was still chilly, creeping in through his cuffs and collar.

This was his third time standing here, waiting for Evadne.

But his mood this time was completely different from the previous two. A slight hope had somehow turned into an indescribable fervor, quietly burning in his heaving chest.

He felt as if he was standing in the cold wind, looking up at the stars.

Thaddeus was thinking, what should he do if he didn’t see Evadne tonight?

As her ex-husband, he couldn’t swallow his pride to contact her because such humiliation was unbearable.

So, he decided to wait, to keep waiting.

He believed that Evadne would come out eventually. He would see her.

As long as he could see her, as long as he could see her.

Suddenly, the gate of Silverlake Harbor slowly opened.

Thaddeus’s heart pounded, all his nerves on high alert, his tall b*dy leaning forward.

His gaze was fixed on the gate, and his breathing became heavy.

However, when Avery appeared leisurely with a smile, his heart sunk.

Thaddeus watched the man walk up to him with a cold expression.

“Mr. Thaddeus, it’s late at night, and no one’s around. Wasn’t that a bit rude to just show up here without a hello?” Avery’s eyes were full of mockery.

Thaddeus remained stoic, “What’s it to you if I’m here? Are you saying Skyrim was your turf?”

“Thaddeus, have you always been this sore, afraid of losing?”

Avery laughed scornfully. “I know why you’re here. I know what you’re thinking. You’re just regretting, regretting choosing Acacia over Evadne. Now that you’ve realized you’ve been played by that woman, you finally see your stu pidity, so you want to win Evadne back, not willing to admit defeat. What do you think Evadne was, some kind of filler for your void? You’ve hurt her so much, and you think she’ll still wait for you?”

Thaddeus swallowed hard, tasting bitterness on his tongue.

“Evadne has a new partner now, and that’s me. If you still have designs on her, you’ll have to check with me first. See if I agree, if I accept you.” Avery adjusted his gla**es, his gaze icy cold.

“You have no right to say any of this, Avery.”

Thaddeus lifted his head proudly, his competitive spirit flaring up like a fierce fire. “Even if I regret it, even if I want to start over with Evadne, the one to reject me should be Evadne herself. Whatever you say in front of me means nothing.”

“Thaddeus.”

“Thaddeus!”

Avery’s eyes hardened, his killer intent unhidden.

But unexpectedly, Thaddeus heard two voices at the same time.

Thaddeus looked up sharply, seeing Evadne storming towards him. His heart raced uncontrollably.

“Evadne, why did you come out dressed so lightly? The night wind is cold.”

The harshness in Avery’s eyes faded instantly, replaced by a soft gaze.

Just as he was about to approach her, she breezed past him, not stopping in front of him.

At this moment, Evadne and Thaddeus locked eyes as if an invisible barrier was around them, completely isolating Avery.

They were at a standoff, doing nothing, but it seemed there was no room for a third person between them.

Avery clenched his fists, the cold air he inhaled like a sharp knife, causing him internal pain.

His eyes, hidden behind his gla**es, gradually filled with murderous intent.

“Mr. Thaddeus is visiting Skyrim again. Always hanging around our doorstep, is it because you like the view at Silverlake Harbor and consider it a tourist spot?” Evadne put one hand on her hip, her gaze sharp.

Thaddeus’ heart was still trembling. He stared at her, inexplicably saying, “The view there was very beautiful.”

Beautiful? Very beautiful?

Was he mocking her? Couldn’t he hear her sarcasm?

“Next time, I’ll arrange a travel plan for you, take you on a deep tour of Skyrim, and stop loitering at my doorstep. That wasn’t a tourist spot.” Evadne had had it with Thaddeus. She gritted her teeth and said fiercely, “Get out of here, now! See you!” Thaddeus still looked at her blankly, the pa**ion in his eyes faded, then he softly said, “Alright, goodnight.”

Evadne’s eyes widened?

Goodnight?

He came all the way here just to say goodnight to her. Was his brain still functioning?

The next second, Thaddeus turned around decisively, like he had completed a mission, heading toward to his sports car.

“Thaddeus, wait up.”
