Chapter 327

Typically, following such a major surgery, it wouldn’t be uncommon for someone to be unconscious for about ten days.

But Thaddeus was no ordinary man. A former Special Forces operator, his physical condition far exceeded that of the average person. So, on the fourth day, he woke up.

“Mr. Thaddeus! Mr. Thaddeus! Mr. Thaddeus! Mr. Thaddeus!”

The incessant noise was enough to drive anyone crazy.

Struggling, Thaddeus lifted his heavy eyelids, his vision gradually clearing from a blur.

The first thing he saw was the face of Gordon, his once full beard now rough and unkempt, his face visibly thinner.

“Mr. Thaddeus is awake. Mr. Thaddeus is awake!”

Overcome with excitement, Gordon frantically rang the bell by the bedside.

“You sound like you’re calling spirits from the dead. You could wake the dead with that noise,” Thaddeus grumbled, his ears still ringing and his head still foggy. “Where am I?

“You’re in the hospital, of course! You’ve been through a dramatic ordeal,” Gordon replied, tears welling in his eyes as he remembered the traumatic events of the past few days.

“Where’s Evadne?

Much to everyone’s surprise, Thaddeus seemed less concerned with his own wellbeing and more worried about Evadne’s safety.

The last thing he remembered was a thug raising a metal rod, poised to strike Evadne.

What happened after that, he had no idea.

Did he manage to protect her? And if he didn’t, he would rather be dead!

Gordon hastily reassured him, “She’s fine! She’s perfectly fine! You saved Mrs. Abernathy, don’t worry!”

But Thaddeus wasn’t convinced.

Just then, the medical team and the attending physician rushed into the room, helping Gordon to keep Thaddeus under control. “Where’s Evadne? I need to see Evadne!”

Thaddeus suddenly sat up in bed, his thin l*ps trembling, his eyes turning red.

His emotions were clearly running high.

“Mr. Thaddeus, please, can you rest first? Once you’re better, we’ll go see Mrs. Abernathy. Look at yourself right now.”

“I want to see Evadne, now!”

Thaddeus didn’t know what was happening to him. Every nerve in his b*dy was on edge, his mind agitated like a boiling pot, his heart pounding so hard he felt as if it would burst out of his chest.

Just as everyone was at a loss for what to do, a cool, melodious voice suddenly broke the silence.

“Thaddeus! Are you a three–year–old child? Stop this nonsense!”

The room immediately fell silent.

Standing in the doorway, Evadne narrowed her eyes in disapproval. She was not smiling, yet she was as beautiful as a timeless statue in a museum.

“Mrs. Abernathy!” Gordon greeted her with a relieved smile.

“Evadne!” Thaddeus‘ eyes were filled with warmth, but his hands trembled even more.

At that moment, with his head wrapped in bandages and gauze, resembling an apple in a fruit basket, and those affectionate eyes, he seemed almost comical.

Evadne bit her l*p, then coldly ordered, “Everyone, please leave. The patient needs rest.”

Her tone was more authoritative than the attending physician’s!

“Ms. Evadne, we appreciate your help!”

The attending physician, along with the nurses, respectfully bowed to her as they left the room. Ever since it was revealed that Ms. Evadne was Dr. Eve, these normally arrogant white–coats had fallen head over heels for her brilliance, showing her only respect and admiration.

“Mrs. Abernathy, Mr. Thaddeus is in your hands!” Knowing when to step back, Gordon also quickly left the room.

The door closed.

Seeing Thaddeus awake made Evadne happy, too, but she didn’t want him to know. So she maintained her aloof demeanor.

“Thaddeus, you just had brain surgery. Restlessness is the last thing you need. Behave, or you’ll end up an idiot.”

Crossing her arms, she made a mocking face. Blind, dumb, and now brain–damaged. Don’t ever say you know me if we run into each other. I can’t afford to lose face.”

Before she could finish her sentence, Thaddeus, shaking, got off the bed and quickly approached her.

The next second, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards him.

Her vision swayed as she crashed into his firm chest, her heart pounding, her head dizzy.

“Evadne, I’m glad you’re okay. I’m sa glad.” Thaddeus rested his chin on her shoulder, his dry l*ps whispering in her ear.

He was the one who was injured, but he seemed not to care at all.

Evadne, not wanting to hurt him, could only blush and protest sternly, “You’re still sick! You can’t move around like this, get back in bed and rest!”

“No.” Thaddeus was as stubborn as ever, his eyes red, his arms tightening around her.

Thump, thump, thump

Evadne was taken aback. Why was his heart beating so fast?

His b*dy was also hot, his muscles tense, and his trembling b*dy was invading her, sending shockwaves through her heart.

All these reactions suggested that Thaddeus‘ b*dy was reacting abnormally.

“Thaddeus, something’s wrong with you. Let go of me first. Hmm!”

With his heart beating uncontrollably and his breathing out of sync, Thaddeus leaned down and k*ssed her.

Step by step, he cornered her, and step by step, she retreated.

Backed against the wall, she had nowhere else to go. She could only accept his dominating and aggressive k*ss.

Thaddeus closed his eyes. He was like a traveler who had been struggling in the desert for too long and had finally found a source of water. He passionately k*ssed her l*ps, prying open her teeth, their tongues intertwining.

Pressed against the wall by him, k*ssed by him, her ears, cheeks, and n*eck were all flushed red with desire.

Gradually, she felt his breath becoming steadier, his trembling subsiding, and the crazed look in his eyes clearing.

But his k*ss remained as deep as ever, showing no signs of stopping.

Thaddeus had been engulfing her in k*sses for what seemed like forever. If he hadn’t been worried about her losing breath, he probably would have continued until sundown.

Both were panting heavily, beads of sweat trickling down their foreheads.

Thaddeus, the charming rascal, was even more exaggerated. His hospital gown was soaked through, clinging to his well–toned chest, presenting a tempting spectacle right before her eyes.

Upon closer inspection, she found that his usually pale l*ps had turned a healthy shade of pink.

What was this? A much–needed vitality boost?

“You scoundrel! You just woke up and now you’re causing trouble?” Evadne, flustered from his passionate k*sses, had just upgraded his nickname.

“Only causing trouble for you.”

After the moist k*sses, Thaddeus felt invigorated, the annoying sensation of restlessness nowhere to be found.

His eyes darkened slightly, becoming more audacious, overbearing her b*dy, his fingertips tracing her delicate jawline. “But when I cause trouble, it doesn’t hurt, does it?”

“Get off, go back to bed and behave!” Evadne turned her face away, her heart pounding wildly.

“No.”

“Thaddeus, are you not even going to listen to me now?” Evadne blurted out in desperation.

Thaddeus paused for a moment, a smile tugging at the corner of his l*ps. “I will, only to you.”

His voice trailed off, his Adam’s apple bobbing, hot breath brushing against her nose. “Only after I’ve had my share of k*sses.”

Before Evadne could react, Thaddeus had her wrists pinned against the wall.

His warm l*ps, once again, took her by storm.

By the time she managed to escape, the sun had already set.

Evadne walked towards the Director’s office, legs weak, b*dy drenched in sweat, and eyes slightly unfocused

It was just a k*ss.

Why did it feel like they had done so much more?

After knocking, Evadne walked in.

“Mr. Larry.

Ms. Evadne, you’re blushing. Are you feeling okay?” Mr. Larry, noticing her flushed cheeks, asked out of concern.

“Ah, I’m fine,

Evadne cursed Thaddeus under her breath, took a deep breath, and touched her heating cheeks. “Has Thaddeus‘ brain CT scan results come out yet?”

“They have.”

Dr. Larry solemnly took out the film from his drawer and handed it to Evadne.

She took it and examined it carefully under the light.

Suddenly, her brows furrowed and her heart sank.

Ms. Evadne, you see the problem as well, don’t you?

Dr. Larry’s expression was tense. Your operation was very successful. Nationwide, there are less than three people who could have done it.Successful? You think it was successful?

Evadne felt a lump in her throat, her hand trembling as she held the CT scan, “In my eyes, leaving the patient with side effects is a failure!

Evadne could bear anything, but not the taste of failure!

And the one defeated by her hands was Thaddeus.

She clutched at her blouse, heart aching as if it were bleeding.

“Any doctor performing such a dangerous, high–risk surgery could potentially leave the patient with side effects. Don’t be too hard on yourself! Saving Mr. Thaddeus‘ life is already a great fortune!” Mr. Larry consoled, knowing how competitive Dr. Eve was.

“So, that’s why he was so uncontrollable when he saw me earlier.”

Evadne murmured, clenching her fists in frustration. “Is there a way to treat his side effects?”

Dr. Larry sighed, “For now, we can only use sedatives to control it, there’s no better solution. If the patient can maintain a calm and stable mindset, he could suppress the onset of the disease.”

A stable mindset?

So, by k*ssing her, had he stabilized his emotions?

Evadne blushed again. She gritted her teeth.

Midnight, at The Velvet Haven.

In the luxurious private room, two beautiful women in dresses with high slits were serving Avery.

By serving, they were merely pouring drinks and sitting!

Everyone at The Velvet Haven knew that Mr. Avery had serious mysophobia. Women like them dreaming of getting close to him were just asking for .trouble.

In the dim light, Avery lounged on the sofa, his tall figure reclining, his long n*eck forming a line of superiority. His side profile was so stunning it could take one’s breath away.

One of the women couldn’t help but stare, accidentally spilling a few drops of wine on the pristine shoes of Avery!

“Ah, Mr. Chambers! I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!” The woman turned pale with fear, standing up and bowing over and over again in apology.

Avery lazily opened his eyes, not even giving her a glance, “Clean it up.”

“Yes, sir!”

The woman, as if pardoned, immediately knelt down, trembling as she held Avery’s leather shoes, sticking out her tongue.

Lick by lick, she cleaned off every trace of wine.

“Get out.” Avery said, rubbing his temples in annoyance,

“Yes, sir!” The woman crawled backward to the door and left.

“You too.”

The other woman in a dress also hastily left, crawling and stumbling.

No sooner had the two left than the secretary peeked in, saying cautiously, “Mr. Chambers, Miss Elsie is here.”
