His Ex wife is a billionaire Chapter 335
Chapter 335
Evadne didn’t feel embarrassed, if anything, she felt insulted on behalf of Avery.
She was a woman of clear sentiments, but she never looked down on anyone of treated anyone with scorn. That was not how she was raised.
“No biggie, if we’re not allowed in, we can come back when it’s open. Let’s go.”
Evadne didn’t want to cause any trouble for Avery. She casually suggested, “If you want to ride, you can come to my family’s ranch. It’s pretty much the same.”
Just as she was about to leave, Avery grabbed her hand, squeezing it gently, “Evadne, don’t go. We need to get in there tonight.”
Evadne’s fingers twitched as she instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but she couldn’t.
Avery’s tone was firm.
She had never seen this assertive side of him since they reconnected.
The two bouncers exchanged a look before one of them said coldly, “You better leave now, or don’t blame us for being rude. Mr. Byron is entertaining guests inside, no riff–raff allowed.”
Evadne was close to rolling her eyes to the heavens.
Riff–raff? They probably haven’t brushed their teeth, otherwise their words wouldn’t stink so bad.
“Oh, is that so?”
Avery, however, remained composed. He stepped forward, “What if I insist on going in?”
“Are you looking for trouble?”
One of the bouncers glared at him, ready to shove Avery away.
To his surprise, before his hand could even touch Avery’s shirt, he felt a blur before his eyes, and then a sharp pain in his arm, followed by a scream! Evadne’s eyes widened, as she watched Avery perform a clean shoulder throw, sending the bouncer crashing to the ground, unable to get up.
The other bouncer, seeing this, charged at Avery.
Another scream, another broken bone.
I
“Evadne, let’s go.” Avery pulled out a pristine white handkerchief from his pocket, delicately wiping his hands, his voice gentle towards Evadne. His demeanor was of an educated gentleman, as if the brute force displayed earlier had nothing to do with him.
Evadne was speechless.
Avery pressed his l*ps together, his expression tender. He reached for her hand again, leading her away without a second glance.
“Wait, wait! Who, who are you?” The bouncer on the ground asked in pain.
Avery paused, chuckling lightly, “My last name is Chambers.”
The two bouncers paled in shock.
Meanwhile, Thaddeus, unable to reach Evadne, was growing anxious in his luxurious car.
“Mr. Thaddeus, can’t you get a hold of Mrs. Abernathy?” Gordon was equally anxious.
“Yes. Even though she despises me, she never ignores my calls.”
Thaddeus gripped his phone tightly, his palm sweating nervously, his eyes filled with worry. “Gordon, did I do something wrong again to upset her? I’ve had some memory issues since my head injury. Can you help me recall if I said or did anything wrong?”
Looking at the anxious CEO, who was a total contrast to the confident business tycoon he usually was, Gordon was astounded.
“Uh, you haven’t seen Mrs. Abernathy these days, so you didn’t have a chance to upset her, right?”
Gordon scratched his head, trying to think. “Hey, could it be that Mrs. Abernathy had a dream last night, dreaming about the past grievances you’ve caused her, and she woke up more and more angry, so she decided to ignore you?”
Thaddeus looked at him, unimpressed. “A dream?”
Gordon put on a knowing face, “I once dated a girl in college who would always dream about me. One day, she dreamed that I was cheating on her and made a fuss about it the whole day! We broke up not long after!”
Thaddeus’s handsome face darkened, “Do you think my wife would be like those ungrateful women you know?”
Gordon broke into a cold sweat realizing he said the wrong thing. He bowed his head, “I dare not, sir!”
Thaddeus was filled with worry He sighed.
How could he control what she dreams about?
However, he had indeed been a beast in the past, probably leaving a deep scar in Evadne’s heart.
‘Or you could try reaching out to President Ashbourne. We’ve been told that Mrs. Abernathy has returned to Skyrim, so her brother must know where Mrs. Abernathy is! Gordon, trying to be helpful, suggested a possible solution
Thaddeus glanced at him coldly. “As the CEO of the Abernathy Group, I can’t replace a single person and I have to make a call to her family? What if Cassius doesn’t know either? Am I supposed to call all her brothers one by one? Get out, don’t bother me
“Yes, yes. I’ll take my leave!”
Knowing that Thaddeus was in a bad mood, Gordon quietly retreated.
The moment the door closed, Thaddeus picked up his phone and dialed Cassius’s number.
“Mr. Thaddeus, how’s your injury?” Cassius’s voice was calm, giving nothing away.
“President Ashbourne, is Evadne with you?” Thaddeus’s voice was tinged with urgency.
“Evadne isn’t with me. What, Mr. Thaddeus, can’t you reach my sister?”
Thaddeus took a deep breath, “She’s not answering my calls. I’ve called her several times, but she didn’t answer.”
“Oh, that’s normal.”
Thaddeus was silent.
“I’m not sure where Evadne went either. She’s not a child anymore. She doesn’t need to report everything to me. There was a time when she didn’t contact the family for years because of you.”
“Because of me, she didn’t contact her family for years? Why?” Thaddeus was taken aback, he probed further.
Cassius realized he had misspoke and quickly changed the subject, “Mr. Thaddeus, is there an emergency with Evadne? Is your head feeling uncomfortable?”
“No. I’m just worried about her.”
“There’s no need to worry. Evadne always knows what’s best for her, and she knows how to protect herself. She’ll appear when she wants to replace you, if you can’t replace her it only means one thing: she doesn’t want to see you for now.”
The words pierced Thaddeus like a needle, its point so thin he could barely feel the sting, but the pain spread relentlessly, from his head to his toes. He hung up the phone, lost in thought, the device slick with sweat from his tense grip.
Yet, a ripple of intrigue stirred within him at Cassius’s words.
She hadn’t contacted her family in years, a curious coincidence, as he had a similar experience.
So, where did she go during those years away from home? What had she been doing? And why had she never mentioned it?
At the ranch, Avery continued to hold onto Evadne’s hand!
“Ave? Ave? Mr. Avery!”
1
It took her calling his name three times before he snapped back to reality. “What’s up?”
Her l*ps, a delicate shade of pink, pursed slightly, and she cast him a hard look before lowering her long lashes to their intertwined hands.
“I’m sorry, Evadne. I’m sorry.”
His eyes flickered, and slowly, he released the softness in his palm.
The atmosphere suddenly grew awkward.
They were adults, both single and unattached. She had even been married and divorced once. It was just a touch, nothing to be overly sensitive about, right?
So, Evadne took a deep breath and decided to address the elephant in the room. “Why didn’t you reveal your identity before? If you had, there wouldn’t have been any misunderstanding, and no need for violence.”
“Do you really think that revealing who I am would have changed anything, Evadne?”
Avery seemed unconcerned, a smile tugging at the corner of his l*ps. “I think they would’ve just informed my brother, and I’d still be left out in the cold. Same result.”
Evadne didn’t push the issue further. It would be pointless.
}
She wasn’t interested in getting involved in the Chambers Group brothers‘ feud. That wasn’t her business.
“Ave, why did you bring me to the ranch? To ride horses?”
“I brought you here to see a horse. I promise you’ll love it.”
As he spoke, Avery instinctively reached out to hold her hand again.
But remembering her discomfort, his hand stopped mid–air, fingers trembling slightly.
Evadne felt her heart flutter in sync with his trembling fingers.
Just then, Avery’s secretary came running over, panting and dripping with sweat.
“Mr. Chambers! There’s trouble!”
Avery frowned. “What is it?”
“Your horse for Ms. Evadne was taken by Mr. Byron to the ranch!”
At these words, Avery pushed up his glasses, a glint of fire in his eyes, his face shadowed by a cold frost.
Meanwhile, Byron was showcasing a magnificent horse, its coat the color of champagne, to the guests.
“Byron, you’ve got some real thoroughbreds here! I’ve only ever heard of them, never seen one!”
“This one must be worth at least one million, right?”
15.23
“One million? You’re lowballing it.”
Byron couldn’t hide his pride as he stroked the horse’s sleek coat. “This horse is a rare breed from Whiteguard. It’s worth at least 1.5 million.”
Guests gasped in admiration, whipping out their phones to snap pictures.
1.5 million was not a stretch for anyohe present. But to spend that much on a horse, and then the costs to maintain it. This was a level of luxury only the likes of the Abernathy Group, the Chambers Group, or the Ashbourne Group could afford.
“Let me try riding it! I want to see how powerful it is.”
Byron was eager to mount the horse.
And just as he did so, a cold voice echoed behind him.
“Who gave you permission to touch my things?”
Startled, Byron lost his balance and tumbled off the horse.
Luckily, the horse trainer was quick enough to catch him, but the fall was still embarrassing.
“Be careful, Byron!” Concerned voices filled the air, but everyone was secretly amused.
Byron pushed away the trainer and turned around, his eyes filled with fury.
And there they were.
Avery and Evadne, standing side by side, a stunning pair that was hard to ignore.
“Who’s that woman? She’s so beautiful and familiar!”
“That’s Evadne, daughter of Skyrim’s richest man, Emeric!”
1
“And the man next to her. Oh my God, they’re such a perfect match!”
“That’s Avery, from the Chambers family. I didn’t expect him to be so close to the Ashbourne family’s daughter. He must be quite powerful!”
Seeing the spotlight stolen by Avery, Byron was fuming..
Evadne, however, paid no attention to Byron’s chameleon–like change in demeanor.
Her l*ps parted in awe as she gazed at the golden horse. So beautiful.”
Avery turned to look at Evadne, her eyes sparkling, cheeks flushed like peach blossoms. A smile played on his l*ps, his eyes softened.
“What brings you here, Avery?” Byron dusted himself off, forcing a smile.
“Byron, how’s my horse? Does it make you feel good to show off with other people’s things?”
Avery tilted his head, a mocking smile on his face. “If you wanted it, you could’ve just asked. But to just take it, what does that make you?”
Byron was extremely awkward.
“But even if you asked, I wouldn’t lend it to you.”
