Chapter 386

Emeric broke the news to the three ladies, all of whom were quite taken aback. They all wanted to accompany him to visit Evadne, but he insisted on going alone.

After finally persuading the ladies to stay, he sent them back to their homes in Skyrim.

Emeric, followed closely by his secretary Mr. Dylan and a b*dyguard, exited the airport and indeed found Avery, standing tall and poised beside a luxury car, waiting for him.

“Mr. Emeric, good to see you.” Avery greeted him with a warm smile and a respectful bow.

After a moment’s consideration, Emeric got into Avery’s car, his b*dyguard and secretary following in their own vehicle.

After all, Avery had said he had something to discuss concerning Evadne..

Normally, someone as junior as him wouldn’t even get a chance to meet someone as influential as Emeric, even as the son of Jeff. But if it concerned Evadne, Emeric couldn’t just ignore it.

The luxurious car smoothly set off towards the hospital.

“Mr. Emeric, I’ve been by Evadne’s side these past few days. Her mood has been very unstable, very down.” Avery’s eyes brimmed with sorrow. “I’ve known her for quite some time, but this is the first time I’ve seen her in such pain. If you were to see her, it would cut you to the core. I’m well aware of how much you care for her.”

Emeric felt as if an arrow had pierced his heart, the pain unbearable.

It was common knowledge that among Emeric’s many children, Evadne was his favorite, his most beloved. No one could compare.

It was like someone telling him that his daughter had been wronged, had been hurt. It felt as if his heart was being deep-fried, the agony indescribable!

And Avery knew exactly how to play this.

He knew that Emeric’s fatal weakness was Evadne.

“Avery, tell me, what happened while I was away?” Emeric looked at Avery anxiously. “What kind of trouble has Evadne gotten herself into? Who’s turned my precious daughter into such a state?

“Mr. Emeric, who else could make a strong girl like Evadne heartbroken?”

Avery clenched his fist, his eyes cold. “Who was it who hurt her, who threw her away with his own hands, and who kept pestering her, breaking her heart over and over?”

“Thaddeus?Emeric’s thick brows furrowed deeply.

“There’s no one else it could be.”

“Did that rascal have anything to do with Evadne’s car accident?”

Avery adjusted his glasses, his expression solemn. “All I know is that on the day of Evadne’s accident, she went to see Thaddeus. I don’t know what happened between them that would make Evadne so distracted on her way home that she had an accident. The car was totaled, but thankfully she wasn’t seriously injured.”

“What will it take for him to stop bothering my daughter!” Emeric slammed his hand on the car door, his anger uncontrollable.

“There’s also another thing, Mr. Emeric. I don’t know if I should tell you.” Avery hesitated.

“Tell me! Whatever that boy has done to my daughter, tell me everything!” Emeric’s eyes were bloodshot with rage, his b*dy shaking.

Avery’s eyes flickered, and with a low voice, he told Emeric about how Thaddeus had once taken full advantage of Evadne when she was unconscious.

He was very clever. From the way Thaddeus apologized to Evadne that day, to Evadne’s reaction, and then their encounters in the past few days, he had a pretty good idea of what had happened.

Even the parts he didn’t fully understand didn’t matter.

Whatever Thaddeus couldn’t bring himself to say, he would fill in the blanks.

Emeric stayed silent as Avery spoke, not uttering a single word.

Only his heavy, hate–filled breathing could be heard in the dimly lit car.

“Mr. Emeric, try not to get too worked up. You need to take care of your health.” Avery’s eyes were full of concern.

That Abernathy boy. How much more is he planning to torment my daughter!Emeric clutched his chest in agony, his heart aching as if it were bleeding!

“Although some unfortunate things have happened to Evadne in the past, all that matters is that it’s in the past. I will protect Evadne from now on.”

Avery’s gaze was fixed on Emeric, burning with sincerity. “I swear, all of my love belongs to Evadne. I will make her the happiest woman in the world. Mr. Emeric, my love for Evadne has nothing to do with her being your daughter, or any connections to the Chambers Group or the Ashbourne Group. I love her for who she is. Since childhood, there has never been a woman who could replace Evadne in my heart. Never.”

Emeric looked at him in shock, staring at his eyes that shone with earnestness.

Before, he had harbored some resentment towards this young boy of the Chambers family, and towards the entire Chambers family. He had never experienced a socalled “marriage of convenience“, and he didn’t want Evadne to marry someone she didn’t love and suffer for the rest of her life.

But now, it seemed that Avery truly loved Evadne.

He was a man who had been there before, and he knew that the love in Avery’s eyes when he spoke of Evadne was something that couldn’t be faked.

Perhaps he shouldn’t indulge his daughter any longer.

She had always said that she wanted to pursue happiness, but at the end of the day, what had she found? A man who couldn’t control his own desires, and who was a Scoundrel!

“Avery Chambers.”

It was rare for Emeric to address him so cordially, but his gaze was stern. “You are well aware of my daughter’s situation. She once loved Thaddeus with all her heart, gave -everything she had to that man. Perhaps for a long, long time to come, she won’t be able to heal the wounds in her heart and won’t be able to accept your feelings. No

matter how genuine or fervent you are, there’s a high chance she won’t see you. Because Evadne is my daughter, I know her temperament best. Perhaps you can endure it for one or two years, but what about ten years, twenty years? Can you still bear with her like this? Won’t you regret it?

“I know, Thaddeus is still in her heart. But I don’t care.”

Avery’s teary eyes were full of relief and sincerity, so heartbreaking, “I want to marry Evadne. No matter what happened to her, I don’t mind. The only woman love is

Evadnex

Emeric’s brows were tightly knitted. It would be a lie to say he was not moved.

“Mr. Emeric, I want to ask you for a favor. Please give me a chance and let me be with her.”

By the time Emeric got to the hospital, Evadne was already asleep.

Emeric had a lot to say to his daughter, but seeing her pale, thin face, he was at a loss for words. He just wanted to sit quietly by her side, to be with her. What was there left to say?

There was no turning back. Anything more would just be a second blow to her.

In the early morning, Cassius and Arnold came in.

“Dad, you should go home and rest. Evadne will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. We’ll take her home,” Cassius said softly.

“I’m not tired.” Emeric’s tone was cold, clearly holding a grudge.

“Dad, we were wrong this time. We shouldn’t have kept it from you.”

Arnold let out a deep sigh, “But we did it for your health. You’ve rälsed us. Isn’t it our duty to stand up for you when it matters? We can handle Evadne’s situation.” “Handle it? If you could handle it, Evadne wouldn’t be suffering here right now.” Emeric scoffed.

Cassius‘ eyes darkened and he didn’t say anything.

Arnold also pursed his l*ps. His usual eloquence at a loss for words.

Cassius, come out. I want to talk to you.” Emeric stood up stiffly, his back aching from sitting for too long..

“Yes, Dad.”

Cassius quickly came forward to support his father, and they temporarily left the ward.

In the lounge.

“What did you say?”

Cassius was taken aback, his pupils constricting, “You want Evadne to be with Avery? Why?”

“I think now, if we really want Evadne to break free from the shadow Thaddeus has cast on her, the best way is to let her start a new relationship, to let someone who truly loves her be by her side.”

Emeric’s gaze was determined. He had clearly made up his mind, “As of now, Avery is so devoted to Evadne, and our families are well–matched in social status. I’ve watched Avery grow since he was a child. I know his character. I think, why not let them date and see what happens? Perhaps he can heal the wounds in Evadne’s heart. Evadne can’t keep going on like this. She needs a new beginning.”

“Do you really know Avery? Do you think you know him well?

Cassius was anxious, his tone heavier, “Avery has been involved in some shady business under Helgen’s command, some of which/wouldn’t stand the light of day. Are you really comfortable letting Evadne be with him?”

“That’s overseas, not at home. And if he is truly good to Evadne, and there’s a chance for them, I don’t mind helping him clean up his act.“.

“Dad!Cassius was choking on his anger, “How can you suddenly change like this? Evadne won’t be happy with this!”

And if I don’t, will she be happy?

Emeric stood up abruptly, his eyes red with rage as he yelled at him, “Ever since she decided to become a doctor without borders, when/have I ever interfered with her! I let her be free, do what she wants, but where is her happiness? She had a terrible marriage. She lost herself and her heart was hurt. She was tortured and even now, Thaddeus is still taking advantage of her! Is my daughter so worthless? Just because she left Thaddeus, she has to be alone for the rest of her life, unwanted by anyone!”

Cassius was taken aback!

He realized that Emeric knew the unknown affairs between Evadne and Thaddeus.

But aside from the two people involved, only he knew about this. He didn’t tell his father anything, so how did his father replace out?

Who told him?

“The youngest son of the Chambers family doesn’t hold a position in the Chambers Group, and his relationship with Mr. Jeff isn’t that good. Right now, he might not be the best match for Evadne. But it’s okay, as long as he truly loves Evadne, and is devoted to her, I don’t mind giving him a hand.”

Emeric thought about the sins Thaddeus had committed against his daughter, and he was filled with rage, wanting to kill Thaddeus, “Humph, Thaddeus‘ days of being the shining star of the Elmsworth family are numbered!”

Cassius was filled with frustration.

Emeric’s attitude made it clear that he was planning to groom Avery as his future son–in–law.

“Did you ask Evadne about this decision? Would Evadne agree to you meddling in her love life?

“No need to ask.”

Emeric closed his eyes and waved his hand, “In time, Evadne will understand that the one she loves might not be suitable for her, might not be the best choice. Only the person who loves her is suitable to spend a lifetime together. At least she won’t get hurt again.”
