Chapter 518

Evadne’s eyes widened; she fixed her gaze on the man’s striking and chiseled profile. Nothing was heard on the other end of the line, except for the faint sound of sobbing. “What’s the matter? One of you is giving me the stink eye, and the other’s gone mute.”

Thaddeus cracked a half–smile, reached out, and playfully pinched Evadne’s cheek. “Are you sisters not going to draw straws to see who trusts me first?“No, it’s not that.

Nydia spoke up first, her voice low and filled with gratitude. “Thank you for agreeing to help Jason, really, thank you.”

“You don’t have to mention it; that’s what a family is for after all.”

After calming Nydia’s emotions, Thaddeus ended the call and immediately ordered Gordon, “Turn around, head to the station.”

Gordon promptly complied, spinning the steering wheel in a swift U–turn.

“Thaddeus, what’s your plan?” Evadne asked, her gaze laced with worries as she studied his serene features.

“No matter what the plan is, we’ve got to get Jason out first.”

Thaddeus sighed, intertwining his fingers with hers and tightening his grip gently. “It’s been tough enough for those two lovebirds already. I don’t want them to go through any more turmoil; I can’t bear to see them get hurt.”

Evadne’s breath hitched slightly. “You really empathize with them, don’t you?”

The man shook his head with a sense of release, pulling her into a deep embrace. “I might have once, but not anymore. Because the greatest happiness in the world is right here in my arms.”

Jason had been held in the dingy confines of a detention center for two weeks. The Chambers Group refused to settle the matter, and it seemed he might be stuck there even longer.

Despite this, he would never betray the young lady or Mr. Thaddeus.

Even if prison awaited him after a fierce struggle, he would still stand firm and reveal nothing.

At the moment, Jason leaned against the wall to conserve his energy, with arms crossed and eyes closed.

Across from him, a few men huddled in the corner, watching him with wary eyes and whispering among themselves.

“Hey, you’re being too loud, Jason said with a cold voice, not opening his eyes. “If you don’t want a beating, shut it.”

The detained men immediately clamped their mouths shut, trembling with fear and sitting there as silent as mice.

Jason exhaled a sigh, his expression a mix of sadness and resignation.

Ever since his first night in the detention center, he hadn’t had a moment’s peace.

These bottom feeders were sent by the Chambers family to “look after” him. But they hadn’t anticipated his ability–each who attempted to intimidate him ended up with receiving his swift and decisive kicks.

Shaking his head, he couldn’t believe the Chambers Group underestimated him so much that they should send such inept thugs as if he were a pushover. Perhaps this was a test; if he ended up in prison, he’d likely handle himself just fine.

Unbeknownst to Jason, Evadne and Thaddeus were already storming the police station.

The Chambers family, cunning as ever, knew that Aaron, the police chief, was connected to the Ashbourne family. To prevent any interference, they had Jason detained at Elmsworth Police Station, where Chief Roderick had close ties with the Chambers clan.

Hearing that the Ashbourne heiress and the Abernathy Group CEO were arriving, Chief Roderick turned on high alert and immediately contacted

Matthew.

“Mr. Chambers, Evadne and Thaddeus are waiting in the reception room. What should I do?

“What to do? Do as you’re told,” Matthew spat through clenched teeth. “You’ve got the Chambers Group backing you. Are you scared of them? This is your chance to climb the ranks, Chief Roderick. Stand your ground, regardless of their pressure, and make sure Jason doesn’t walk out the prison! We need to pin this assault and battery charge on him!”

“Alright. I’ll do my best,” Chief Roderick mopped his brow. “But Mr. Chambers, I don’t understand why you’re so set against this Jason. He’s just a secretary for Evadne. Picking fights with the Ashbourne family doesn’t seem to benefit you.”

“That’s not your concern. Just follow my orders!”

After Matthew ended the call, his gaze turned darkened with malice. “No benefit? Impossible. I, Matthew, never engage in a losing deal.

Now, the witnesses in police custody, whom he had secretly bribed, all “confessed” that their relationships with Byron were voluntary and born of “free love.”

If, on top of this, they could prove that Byron was beaten into impotence by Evadne’s “pet,” he would become a “victim,” and she would inevitably be dragged through the mud by negative public opinion and accused of “settling personal scores.”

In today’s online world, where trolls thrived on outrage and envy, truth was irrelevant. They reacted without thought and barked like crazy dogs at any target.

Matthew popped open a bottle of champagne, poured himself a glass, and toasted to his own cunning.. “Evadne, you think you can outplay me? I was cutting deals in the boardroom while you were still playing in the sandbox!

In the Chief’s office, Chief Roderick faced the formidable duo of Thaddeus and Evadne. Despite having the Chambers Group behind him, he still felt himself sweating through his suit when facing the overwhelming presence of this couple which was sharp as twin swords

“What brings you two here today?” Chief Roderick attempted a nervous smile.

“Obviously, we’re here because of the foul wind blown by the Chambers family,” Evadne retorted, her tone as cutting as a beautifully crafted scimitar.
