Chapter 563

Mrs. Chambers barely settled into her seat on the private jet when she felt utterly exhausted. Avery wanted to help her to the bedroom to rest, but it seemed improper.

As he emerged from the inner cabin, he was met with the stormy presence of Evadne, her eyes red and fierce, a beauty so striking it was unsettling, now tinged with the flush of anger.

“Mr. Chambers.” Harvey stood behind Evadne, his expression a mix of fear and discomfort.

This was the woman Mr. Chambers held dearest; even if she threatened to blow up the jet, Harvey wouldn’t dare stop her. Avery’s eyes, which held a shadowy glint, now softened as a gentle smile played on his l*ps.

Just as he was about to approach her, Evadne preempted him, striding quickly to stand before him.

With both hands, she seized his tailored suit lapels, channeling her rage into strength, and with a forceful shove, pinned him against the cabin door!

Crash!

The expensive crystal glasses from the table tumbled and shattered on the floor at their feet, leaving a mess of sparkling fragments.

“Mr. Chambers! Ms. Evadne! Let’s talk this through, please!” Harvey, in a fluster, was reluctant to intervene, so he just stood there, agape.

Avery met Evadne’s fiery gaze without flinching, his smile unwavering as he calmly gestured for Harvey not to come closer.

“It was you, wasn’t it? Avery.”

Their eyes locked, and trembling hands held his crisp collar, Evadne’s eyes ablaze with an uncontrollable fury, “You’ve sl*pped away again, had your victory. You must be quite pleased with yourself, aren’t you?”

“Evadne, I genuinely have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Avery looked at her steadily, his eyes intense with an almost sickly passion, “Anyway, I’m happy for the chance to be this close to you, to really see you. Evadne, you’ve lost weight. Has Thaddeus not been taking good care of you? Does he truly love you?”

“Avery, what right do you have to say that? To even utter Thaddeus‘ name is an insult to him,” Evadne’s temple throbbed visibly.

A pang struck Avery’s heart, raw and bleeding, “You really do love him, just as I love you.”

“Don’t talk to me about love. Your love is filthy!”

Evadne cut him off, her gaze full of loathing, “Is that love? Your love is to harm my family without restraint, to remove anyone who stands in your way ruthlessly? Avery, what turned you into this monster, so cold and so cruel? You weren’t always like this!”

The handsome face in front of her, an angelic visage, suddenly stared straight at her and let out a hollow laugh.

He thought, “Indeed, Evadne, what has made me this way? The memory of you as a child remains vivid in my heart, but the person I was in your presence back then, I can’t even recall. But, Evadne, what wrong have I done? No matter what I become, I am still me, and I still love you the most.”

“I see no fault in myself. Everyone has their own way of loving, and I am simply loving you in my way.”

Evadne couldn’t stand to hear the word “love” from his l*ps; it sent chills up her spine, “What will it take for you to stop your madness? What will it take for you to end this?”

Leave Thaddeus and be with me.” Avery’s voice was hoarse with emotion, his eyes brimming with longing.

It was not a negotiation, it was more like a/confession.

“Ha. Dream on,” Evadne articulated each word as if flames were burning in her veins.

“One day we will be together, Evadne, one day.” Avery chuckled softly, unfazed by her icy demeanor.

Incorigible, beyond redemption!

Evadne suddenly released her grip and stepped back to distance herself, “Avery, I’m warning you, you’ve crossed the line. To me, you’re now public enemy number one. I will not let you go, never. You want to make amends? If my reparation is sending you to hell, would you still want it?

With those final, resolute words, Evadne turned and left swiftly.

Harvey, having witnessed the entire confrontation, stood petrified, not daring to breathe too loudly.

Avery clutched at his aching chest, gasping for air, and slumped into a chair, weakly extending his trembling left arm towards Harvey.

“Right away!”

IF I G P

Harvey quickly retrieved a medical kit, readied a syringe, and expertly administered the injection into Avery’s vein.

Gradually, Avery’s trembling subsided, and the brief numbness brought some relief, as if his heart ached a little less.

“Evadne, keep entangling me, entangle me fiercely. It’s all the meaning I have to keep living.”

As the jet prepared for takeoff, Avery’s phone rang.

Seeing the word “Sir” on the caller ID, he answered immediately, “Sir.”

“The fireworks over Elmsworth tonight were quite a treat. I enjoyed them,” the man’s voice on the other end was deep and pleased.

“I’m glad you liked them,” Avery replied respectfully.

“It’s a pity, though.”

“No pity. Whether it’s that money or the jet, they’re mere offerings in my eyes.”

The man laughed mockingly, “I pity Ms. Evadne. With such a strong will to win, such pride, and yet she was outplayed, defeated by you.”
