Chapter 634

Matthew had raised a ruckus with his plan to bulldoze a village for his resort development, and the mess was no small potatoes.

Distracted and overwhelmed, he had no time to address the media storm. It was Jeff who had managed to keep the lid on the situation.

In the chairman’s office today, things were about to boil over.

In front of his two remaining sons, Jeff was so livid he might as well have been tearing down the office walls himself.

“Have you lost your damn mind? Even here we don’t go around bulldozing places willy–nilly, and you think it’s fine to do it abroad? Like there’s no law, no government oversight there?”

Jeff, grinding his teeth, jabbed a finger at Matthew’s forehead so fiercely that he was forced to step back repeatedly, “You numbskull! Thick as two short planks! Are you trying to run the Chambers Group into the ground?”

Avery stood aside, gently adjusting his wire–rimmed glasses, his l*ps curled in a quiet smirk.

Matthew’s face turned beet red with shame and fury, his dignity shredded by Jeff’s tirade.

But he was defiant, spitting out angrily, “Dad! We got played by Cassius! The land he transferred to me, there were issues from the start! It was a setup!”

At this, Jeff’s bushy eyebrows knitted together.

“Matthew, it’s not your first rodeo in the business world. Didn’t you send someone to scout out the land before signing the contract?” Avery shook his head in exasperation. “You just blindly took Cassius at his word? Is he really that authoritative in your eyes?”

Matthew glared at him, his jaws aching from clenching his teeth.

He had been so eager to win his father’s praise, so desperate to outshine Avery, that he had rushed into this folly, walking straight into Cassius‘ trap.

The prime land that the Ashbourne family had somehow sl*pped through the fingers of the Chambers Group, all for the sake of a lackey secretary?

Those too–good–to–be–true deals are often traps in disguise!

“Avery’s right, can’t you think for yourself? No wonder you’ve been unable to outdo that Ashbourne kid as CEO!” Egged on by Avery, Jeff’s resentment towards his eldest son deepened.

“Matthew, the problem with the land from the Ashbourne family isn’t the end of the world. You could have come to discuss it with me and Dad. That land, I’ve looked into it, and a resort isn’t the best use of it. A golf course would be better, catering to the elite of Country T’s political and business circles. It’d be a real boon for the Chambers Group’s future connections in Country T.”

Avery sighed helplessly, “It’s a shame you never trust me, always think I’m out to get you. We may not share the same mother, but we’re still brothers. Why would I harm you?”

Matthew stared at Avery’s feigned innocence, seething with rage!

Matthew thought, “Avery was a venomous viper. He had already bitten Bertha and Byron to death, and here he was, playing the sentimentality card!”

“Everything I do is for this family, for the Chambers Group. So, Matthew, I hope in the future you’ll refrain from going rogue and consult with us more. That way, we won’t be left at such a disadvantage by the Ashbournes.”

“And if you’d already scoped out the land in secret, why didn’t you say anything sooner?” Matthew, humiliated and furious, roared at Avery, “Playing Monday morning quarterback now, what’s your angle? Don’t think I don’t know! You just want to see me fall, to have the Chambers Group thrown into chaos! Avery, you’re downright malevolent! The last person who wants the Chambers Group to succeed is you!”

With that, Jeff’s eyes blazed with anger, and he swung his arm, slapping Matthew across the face!

“Fool! Are you still making excuses and trying to shift the blame to Avery?”

Matthew, clutching his swelling face, looked on in shock and anger. “Dad, are you confused? Can’t you see who truly respects you, who genuinely cares for the Chambers Group?

“I judge by results! Since Avery came back from Helgen, he’s helped me out a lot, smoothed over so many issues for the Chambers Group. I’ve seen it all!”

Jeff pointed angrily at his face, As for you, not only did you fail to save Byron, but you’ve also made one bad judgment after another, bringing trouble to the Chambers Group! You’re no different from a disgraceful son at this point!”
