The walls were painted in soft blues and greens, and toys and books filled the shelves. There was even a small drawing station with art supplies, and a comfortable bed draped in the softest blankets.
"I thought he'd be more comfortable here," Carlos said, his tone casual, but there was something else in his eyes-something softer.
I turned to him, surprised. "You prepared all of this for him?"
Carlos shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "I had it set up after you agreed to stay. I just wanted him to feel at home."
Cyrus's eyes
lit up as he took in the room, and he ran over to the toys, his earlier sadness momentarily forgotten. "Mama! Look! There's everything I like!"
I smiled, my heart swelling at the sight of him happy again, even after the difficult day he had endured. I hadn't expected Carlos to be so thoughtful, but here it was-a room full of warmth and care for my son.
Next, Carlos showed me my room, which was right next to Cyrus's. When I stepped inside, I was taken aback once again. The space was beautiful, elegant but comfortable. Clothes, cosmetics, and even jewelry were laid out neatly, waiting for
1. me.
"Carlos, this is..." I trailed off, running my fingers over the soft fabric of the clothes hanging in the closet. They were expensive, luxurious-far beyond anything I had ever owned. "You didn't have to do all this,
Carlos shrugged again, but I could see the tension in his shoulders. "It's just stuff. I wanted to make sure you had what you needed while you're here.".
I nodded, not quite sure how to respond. The kindness he had shown-both to me

and to Cyrus-was overwhelming. I hadn't expected any of this. I turned to him, searching for the right words, but before I could say anything, Carlos gave me a brief smile and excused himself.
"I'll leave you to settle in," he said quietly, and before I could say more, he was gone.
After putting Cyrus to bed, I sat on the edge of my own bed, holding one of the soft pillows in my lap. I glanced around the room, taking in the lavish surroundings. I couldn't help but wonder-when had Carlos prepared all of this? Had he been thinking about this longer than I realized?
Tina chuckled softly in my mind. You'd be surprised. His wolf likes you, you know.
I shook my head, smiling slightly at the thought. It seemed so out of character for Carlos to plan something like this. But then again, I had been wrong about him
before.
Later that night, I made my way downstairs, feeling restless after the long day. I
wandered through the quiet halls until I found Carlos in the sitting room, a glass of wine in his hand. He glanced up as I entered, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"Why didn't you let the maid follow you?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. "I told you the house is big."
I shrugged, offering him a small smile. "I'm not used to having people follow me around. I figured I could replace my way."
Carlos raised an eyebrow but didn't press the matter. Instead, he picked up another glass and poured me a drink, holding it out to me. "You look like you've had a long day. Want some?"
I hesitated for a moment, thinking about everything that had happened-Cyrus's illness, moving into Carlos's house, Sienna's betrayal. I was exhausted, emotionally and physically. Without a word, I took the glass from his hand and nodded. Chapter 57
"Yeah," I said quietly. "I could use a drink."
Carlos smiled, and we both sat in comfortable silence, the weight of the day slowly easing off our shoulders.
The fire crackled softly in the quiet room, and I found myself glancing at Carlos more than usual. There was something about him tonight that made me want to ask him more personal questions-questions I had never thought to ask before. But I hesitated, unsure if he would resent me for prying. A cold, noble werewolf like Carlos surely wouldn't appreciate being questioned about his private life.
But the wine had loosened my tongue, and before I could stop myself, I blurted out, "Carlos, can I ask you something personal?"
He looked up from his glass, his expression calm as ever. I braced myself for a cold dismissal, sure that I had overstepped.
But instead, he surprised me. "Go ahead," he said, his voice even and composed.
I blinked, a little taken aback. "Really? You don't mind?"
He gave a small shrug. "Not at all."
Carlos's eyes remained calm behind his glasses as he answered each question, but I couldn't help but feel like there was more to him than he was letting on. Tonight, though, he seemed willing to let me in, answering all my questions without hesitation or annoyance. It felt strange to get so close to someone who had always seemed so distant.
