Hunger Awaits
Chapter 22

Kendra's POV

We pulled back up to the house and walked in. The girls and I started to walk in when Tenaya stopped and looked at me. "What is it?" I asked her. Bree and Audrey had walked ahead of us into the house already.

"Someone was here. Can't you smell the scent?" I took a deep breath in and immediately smelled the aroma. It was a masculine and woodsy smell, but I knew it wasn't anyone that I knew. I nodded at her and we walked in the house. The other girls were laughing and starting to get dressed for tonight. Tenaya and I walked in and looked around, there didn't seem to be anything out of place. "Why don't you go hang out with Bree and Audrey. I'll take a look around." Tenaya said to me. I nodded and walked over to the girls.

"Hey, Kendra isn't this dress just perfect for tonight?" Audrey asked as I walked up. She was wearing a tightly fitted short black dress with gold trim on the bottom of the dress. She had picked out some gold heels to go with it. She did look amazing in the outfit. I nodded at her and turned back to see Tenaya walk into mine and Matto's room. I was so preoccupied watching her that I didn't hear Bree ask me a question.

"Hello, earth to Kendra," Bree said waving her hands in front of my face. I turned back to her.

"Sorry, what did you ask?" Bree looked at me and frowned.

"What's wrong Kendra?" I shook my head at her.

"Nothing sis. I was just wondering where the boys are?" She eyes me for a moment. Bree has always been able to tell when something was bothering, but this time she decided to let it go.

"I asked if you had any lipgloss?" I nodded at her.

"Yeah, it is in my bedroom. I'll be right back."

I walked back to the bedroom and found Tenaya in my closet. She looked like she was fighting the urge to change badly. She walked out of the closet and looked at me. "Whoever was here went into your closet, but otherwise they didn't seem to take anything." I nodded at her and smiled.

"Let's just get ready and try to enjoy the night. I'll tell Matto when he gets home." She nodded and I grabbed my lipgloss and we headed back out to the living room. We were all ready to go by the time Matto and the boys got back to the house.

"Wow, you girls look amazing," Matto said as they all walked in. We all giggled. Matto walked over to me and Koda walked over to Tenaya. Matto bent down to kiss me and I kissed him back, then I backed away and scrunched my nose.

"What's that smell? Go take a shower guys you all smell like fish." I said laughing. Matto tried to pull me close to him playfully and I smacked him away until he finally grabbed me.

"Not until I get a kiss." He said. I giggled and kissed him then pointed to the shower. Jace and Koda headed to their cabin to shower and change, Matto headed to our shower. Paxton was standing next to Audrey and she was smiling up at him.

"What about me?" Paxton asked. I tossed the truck keys at him.

"Why don't you take the truck to the resort and get ready. We will meet you there in about an hour at the club." He nodded and started to head for the door. Audrey started to follow behind him.

"I'm going to go with him. I left something in the room that I need for tonight." I knew she was lying, and it was so obvious that something was going on with the two of them, but I just nodded and they walked out. I smiled at Bree who shook her head and giggled. I walked back to my room and into the bathroom. Matto had just finished in the shower and was standing there in nothing but a towel. The water was dripping down his rock hard abs and the way the light hit it made it glisten. He was so damn sexy. He smiled at me as I stood there gawking at him, like a bitch in heat.

"You like what you see?" He asked as he walked over to me. I nodded at him and bit my bottom lip.

"You know if we didn't have your friends in the other room waiting I would take you right now." He whispered in my ear. I giggled, but I could feel my arousal deep inside. Wow, cool down girl. Maybe later. I said to myself. Matto walked past me and headed into the bedroom. He stopped at the closet door. "Who was in here?" He turned and asked me.

"Oh yeah, I almost forgot. When we got back from shopping Tenaya and I noticed someone had been here. We couldn't replace anything missing, so we figured we would just deal with it after everyone leaves." Matto looked at me and had a worried look on his face.

"That's just weird, and your sure nothing is missing?" I nodded.

"Nothing that I could see." He looked around a little then shrugged.

"Okay love. We will look into it after everyone is gone."

I hugged him and then walked out of the room to let him finish getting ready. When I walked back into the living room Tenaya pulled me off to the side. "Did you tell Matto about the stranger?" I nodded.

"Yeah, he agreed that we would look into it after my friends leave." She smiled and we joined everyone in the living room. Jace and Koda were back and Matto was dressed and ready. "Alright looks like everyone is ready let's go get our groove on," I said with a smile. Everyone laughed as we headed out the door. Matto took my hand as we walked to the van and piled in.

When we arrived at the club Paxton and Audrey were waiting for us. They were holding each other's hand as we walked up. "So, when did this happen?" I asked them. They both smiled at me. Audrey spoke up.

"Well it's only been a month, but we really are enjoying each other's company." I smiled at her.

"I always thought you two would be good together. I am happy for you both." We all walked into the club and I immediately started to get lost in the music. I took Matto's hand and lead him to the dance floor. He came behind me and started to move his body with mine. The music was soothing and his touch was comforting. It had been so long since we had just relaxed and had fun. The night was going great. Everyone was having a good time and I knew that it would have to end shortly, but I was hoping it wouldn't.

The girls were all on the dance floor and hollered out for me to join them. I made my way over to them and started to dance. I was laughing and having fun when I heard a voice from behind me. "Well well, I guess this is a small town." I turned and saw Leo standing there.

"Leo, what are you doing here?" I asked. He smiled.

"I haven't been here yet and decided to come up and check it out. I was about to leave when I saw you and your friends." I laughed at him.

"I keep forgetting that you haven't been up here that long either. Well, your welcome to join us. However, we will probably be leaving soon. Early flight out for these guys in the morning." I said. He nodded and started to dance and talk with us. Matto and the rest of the guys joined us.

"Who is this love?" Matto asked as he came up behind me.

"Oh, Matto this is Leo. Leo this is my boyfriend Matto. Leo works with me at the cafe." Matto and Leo shook hands and exchanged hellos.

The night came to an end and we all headed out of the club. I said goodnight to my friends and told them that Matto and I would be back in the morning to pick them up. They nodded and headed up to their rooms as the rest of us headed home. Leo followed us all out. "Well, I am heading home. See you tomorrow afternoon right Kendra?" I nodded.

"Yep. I am dropping them off in the morning then I will be at the cafe around noon. Are you working the afternoon shift to?" He nodded. "Ok. Well, I will see you tomorrow then." I said to Leo, as we parted ways. Matto took my hand and we walked back to the SUV and headed home with Jace, Koda, and Tenaya. We dropped the three of them off at their cabin then we went to our cabin. It was already midnight and I was tired. We crawled into bed and Matto wrapped his arms around me.

"Goodnight beautiful." He whispered in my ear. I said goodnight back and closed my eyes.

Unknowns POV,

I had watched her all night and never once did she go anywhere alone. I called Ryker to inform him.

"Ryker, I couldn't get her tonight. She was never alone."

"Fine. Stay with her until you get the opportunity. When you have her bring her here."

"Ok. I think she is working tomorrow it might be my opportunity then. I will be in touch."

I hung up the phone and headed to my campsite. I had set one up near the cabin, but not so close that I could be traced. I really didn't want to go through with this, but I had no other options.

Kendra's POV,

The next morning Matto and I drove Audrey, Paxton, and Bree to the airport. As we said our goodbyes at the gate I couldn't help but cry a little bit. "I swear I will be out to visit for the holidays. I miss mom and dad." I said to Bree as I hugged her. She nodded and cried into my neck.

"They miss you too. You better keep your promise." I smiled at her as I pulled away.

"I will. You guys have a safe flight and make sure you call as soon as you land." They all nodded and then walked to the plane. Matto and I turned and headed back to turn the van in at the rental place. We had left one of the trucks here over the weekend. We turned the rental in and I drove Matto back to the resort. Once I dropped him off I drove back to the cabin and grabbed my work stuff and headed to work.

"Well, there is our beautiful Kendra. How are you, today sweetheart?" Samantha said with a smile as I walked in. I smiled back at her.

"I am great. How are you?" She looked at me.

"Just wonderful, but I do have to talk to you real quick." I nodded and followed her back to the office. Once we were in the office she closed the door behind me.

"What's going on Samantha?" I asked her.

"Oh nothing big, but I am going to have to leave you and Leo to close up tonight. Ron is having surgery today and I am going to need you two to run the closing shift for a few days." I nodded at her.

"Is Ron okay?" She smiled.

"Oh yes, he is just having surgery on his lower back. He will be out for weeks, but I have our son coming in to help out for a while. He just can't get here until Friday. So until then, I need your help."

"Of course Samantha. I have no problem helping out." She smiled at me.

"Oh thank you. Okay, here are the keys and the combination for the safe. Just put the money and receipts in the safe and I will do the paperwork in the mornings. Thank you again." We walked back out as I slipped the keys and safe combination in my apron. Samantha said goodbye to Leo and I and left the cafe.

"So it's just you and I tonight huh?" I nodded.

"Yes sir, and I guess I am in charge to. So you have to listen to me." I said with a smile. Leo laughed.

"Yes, ma'am." I laughed as the bell rang for the front door and we started our night.

At the end of the night, Leo cleaned up as I went ahead and put the money in the safe. Once everything was cleaned and closed up Leo walked out the front door and waited for me to set the alarm. I set the alarm and locked the door behind me. Leo walked with me to the truck. "Well, that was a fun night. Can't wait to do it again tomorrow night." He said to me. I laughed as I looked at the red stain on the front of my shirt.

"Oh yeah, it was especially fun when I decided to wear that poor ladies spaghetti." Now we were both laughing.

"Well, red is your color. Alright, Kendra, I'll see ya tomorrow." I nodded and reached in my pocket for my keys, but they weren't there.

"Damn it," I said out loud.

"What's wrong?" Leo asked.

"I just forgot my keys inside," I said.

"Do you want me to go back with you?" He asked.

I shook my head. "No, it's okay. Just go home. I'll see you tomorrow." He nodded at me and headed to his car as I headed back to the cafe. I got to the door and started to put the key in when I heard a noise. I turned around but didn't see anything. I turned back to the door, but before I could turn the key I felt something hit me in the back of the head. Just before the blackness consumed me I heard a familiar voice say.

"I'm sorry."
