Chapter 384 The Eccentric Lady

Clearwater Village was just a stone's throw away from Hong County.

When they reached the village, they managed to locate the house as mentioned by Fang Yi.

The person who opened the door was a middle-aged lady whose entire face was filled with burn scars.

It was a scary sight to behold.

"Who are you guys looking for?"

The lady couldn't help feeling startled at the sight of Chen Hao and the rest of them.

Perhaps she was worried that her hideous face would frighten the strangers standing before her, thus she was holding her head low in embarrassment.

"Hi Madam, are you Aunt Xia's cousin? According to her, she had left something in your custody. We would like to retrieve it on her behalf. She said that after reading this letter, you would be able to understand everything," Fang Jiannan walked over and said.

Then, she handed a letter to the middle-aged lady.

After looking at the letter and throwing several glances at Fang Jiannan, the lady nodded her head.

"Alright, I understand. You guys may take it with you!"

The lady signaled for Chen Hao and the rest of them to walk into her house.

As it turned out, the thing that Aunt Xia would like them to retrieve as mentioned by Fang Jiannan was a large wooden box.

It would require at least several people to carry it.

Judging from what Fang Jiannan had said, he reckoned that Aunt Xia was that servant!

As for Lin Shengnan, she never expected Chen Hao and the rest of the guys were here to provide manual labor.

Apparently, they were not here to have fun.

Hence, she was quite disappointed.

Moreover, the face of the middle-aged lady was quite a horrid sight. Lin Shengnan would get goosebumps all over her body if she were to look at her face any longer.

So while Chen Hao and the guys were busy carrying the box, Lin Shengnan sneaked away.

Out of boredom, she took a stroll outside the house.

Suddenly, Lin Shengnan caught sight of several luxurious cars driving in at a high speed from the entrance of the village in the direction of the house.

In her daily life, Lin Shengnan was a daring but meticulous girl.

She felt puzzled at the sight of the cars.

In fact, she had already noticed the presence of the cars on their way to the village earlier.

But she did not mention anything about it.

From afar, she could see that the seats inside the cars were all filled up by men. Lin Shengnan's curiosity was instigated by the sight.

At the moment, she made a dash back to the house.

"Chen Hao, there are several cars coming here from the outside! The cars are filled with people as well!" exclaimed Lin Shengnan.

She anxiously made a dash outside to check out on the cars.

"Jiannan, Chen Hao, bad news. There are really many of them, and they're heading over in our direction!"

Fang Yi was so distressed that she started to get jumpy.

She had been very discreet while carrying this out. For safety and security, she didn't even bring along her own staff. She acted like she was on a trip with her classmates like any other day. However, she did not expect that she would still be followed.

"What should we do?"

Fang Jiannan was somewhat flustered.

Chen Hao, too, was baffled by this. Damn, he did not ask his own men to be here, so why were there so many men out there?

"Jiannan, you guys, quickly come into my room now!"

At the moment, the lady with her face full of scars was tugging at Fang Jiannan's arm.

She led Chen Hao and the rest of them into a room inside the house.

She lifted open the divan of the bed to reveal a secret passageway inside.

Fang Jiannan stared at the lady in bewilderment.

The lady said, "My cousin used to stay here quite frequently because she had a lot of enemies coming after her. Therefore, both of us have such a passageway installed in our houses. Since my cousin has instructed you guys to come for me, I believe she trusts you guys. Please follow me!"

Fang Jiannan nodded her head.

Chen Hao couldn't help taking a lingering look at the lady. He had an inkling that he had seen this lady before and she looked familiar to him. However, he could not recall exactly where he had seen her.

At the moment, it was unknown as to who was coming after them.

He could only follow them into the passageway for the time being.

Before long, the group of men reached the house and barged in straightaway.

Obviously, they were coming after Fang Jiannan and Fang Yi.

"You managed to inform us about it just in time!"

While Chen Hao was hiding in the passageway, he took a look at Lin Shengnan.

Chen Hao tried to catch the commotion outside. Apparently, the group of men were relentlessly searching for them in the house.

Fang Jiannan was so anxious that her forehead was covered with beads of sweat.

Chen Hao reckoned that hiding away was not the way to go.

Chen Hao then made a hand gesture signaling her to keep quiet.

Thereafter, he pushed a button on the device and dialed a number.

"W-What is this? Could this be used to ask for help?" Lin Shengnan whispered to him with her eyes widened.

Chen Hao pressed her head low and murmured to her in a soft voice, "Forget everything you have just seen and don't tell anyone!"

Lin Shengnan nodded her head vigorously.

Still, she was very curious about the function of the device. What would Chen Hao get by pushing that button?

All of them stayed inside the passageway for nearly ten minutes.

Suddenly, a buzzing sound came from the sky.

"What's that sound?"

"Oh no, boss, we are being surrounded! There are over ten helicopters hovering above us! We should go now, otherwise it would be too late!" one of the guys outside shouted. "What? Damn, retreat now! Fast!"

It was then followed by the sound of footsteps of the group of men leaving the room.

Lin Shengnan kept her eyes wide open. Obviously, she was deeply frightened by what was mentioned by the group of men.

Chen Hao had actually summoned helicopters here?

Who was he exactly?

Not everyone who came from a wealthy family had such a capability.

Soon, the sound of the helicopters coming from the sky gradually faded away.

"It's safe now. Let's head outside!" the lady behind Chen Hao spoke.

Meanwhile, the lady was the last to go out.

As she was about to get out of the passageway, something on the ground clanked under her feet.

She picked up that thing and took a look at it. It was a jade pendant.

Indeed, when Chen Hao was taking the little device out from his trouser pocket just now, the jade pendant had accidentally fell out from his pocket.

She then stroked the jade pendant.

Suddenly, the lady trembled all over.

In the dark passageway, the lady was holding onto the jade pendant with both of her hands.

"T-T-This..."

All of a sudden, her voice became shaky.

"Eh? Why is that madam not out yet?"

"Exactly. Madam, are you coming out?" Wang Xiaohua shouted.

Only then did the lady come out of the passageway.

"Madam, we're really grateful to you. This is a reward for you. Please don't worry, once we managed to locate the person we are trying to look for, we would send Aunt Xia back here." Fang Jiannan placed a bank card on a table and said, "The password is Aunt Xia's birthday."

"Jiannan, we should not stay here any longer. Let's go! It was a narrow escape just now! It's so strange though, why were there helicopters coming to our rescue?" Fang Yi stated with her voice full of doubt. Fang Jiannan shook her head and said, "I've no idea too. It's better for us to go now and leave any discussion for later. Chen Hao, let's go!"

It seemed like Fang Jiannan had already secured the whereabouts of the servant.

Chen Hao nodded his head before getting ready to leave together with Wang Xiaohua and the guys.

"Boy, please wait for a moment!"
