I Am Unstoppable -
Chapter 416
Chapter 416
The growl of death closed in toward the students who lived in an ivory tower.
The wolf pack was vicious yet calm. They wouldn't make the first move until replaceing out their opponent'scapabilities, but that didn't mean they would give up on hunting the prey already in their grasp.
Even though Matthew and the students had never stepped out of the university grounds, theyunderstood that the wolves wouldn't be scared of the lights forever. Once the vicious creaturessnooped around and realized the light wouldn't hurt them, they would charge at them without theslightest hesitation.
The minute they launched their attack, Mauve and the rest would die beneath the sharp teeth andclaws of the wolves.
A timid woman from the group had started crying from terror. Hearing that, a male student harshlychastised her, “Stop crying! Do you think the situation isn't complicated enough?”
Some students repeatedly drew the sign of the cross over themselves as they prayed in soft sobs.
It was a rather interesting scene.
At that moment, Matthew couldn't even utter a single word in the face of approaching death. Hedreaded dying all the same. Despite being an atheist, he prayed for a miracle or the appearance ofdeities.
However, he couldn't think of any possibility of a miracle happening. No soldier of the heavens woulddescend upon them.
All colors had drained from Mauve's face. She and her friend huddled together as they quivered in fear.
Still, the women couldn't help but hold unrealistic fantasies about a prince on a white steed or a knightin shining armor showing up and rescuing them from distress, just as it occurred to the femaleprotagonists in the romance books they read or the dramas they watched.
“We're doomed! Doomed!” Shaking fervently like a leaf, a man muttered, “I shouldn't have come! If Ihad known I was going to die, I wouldn't have come! Oh, God, please give me another chance! I won'tchoose Geography as my major again! I don't want to die! I'm too young to die! I don't want to die as avirgin!”
In the face of death, the students seemed awfully vulnerable.
Perhaps the wolves had detected the intense despair and vulnerability the group of humans exuded. The alpha of the pack with a silver coat threw its head back and howled.
At the signal, the pack began closing in on the humans.
The humans could clearly see that thirty wolves had surrounded them from two meters away. Thealpha wolf seemed threatening even though it didn't bare its fangs. On each of its sides, two wolvesbared their sharp, pointed canine teeth at the humans. The creatures' eyes glinted with savage, murderous intent.
Mauve and the rest had no way to escape. They couldn't think of anything to get them out of their peril. The only thing they could do was wait for death to come knocking.
Yet, at that moment, a strange scene happened.
To put it more accurately, a disturbance occurred within the wolf pack.
Immediately after, the wolves were on high alert.
They moved to clear a path.
Mauve and the others glanced at the cleared path with anticipation.
Amidst the darkness and the flickering shadow of torches, they saw a man dressed in black approachthem with a stony expression. There was no trace of life on the man. He looked like an apathetic serialkiller.
His arrival was enough to frighten the wolf pack.
The group of students instantly recognized the man. Isn't that the guy from the tavern? Is he part of thewolf pack? Or is he here to fish in troubled waters?
All kinds of thoughts flashed through their minds as they stared at Simon with conflicting gazes. He wasthe only person they didn't imagine would show up to save them.
They were right because Simon wasn't that kind of person.
Yet, he still walked over to Mauve and declared, “I'll take you away.”
Mauve was stunned. Casting a fearful glance at Simon, she asked dazedly, “Where are you taking
me?”
“I'll take you away from this jungle. You shouldn't be here,” Simon said indifferently. His tone was lacedwith slight impatience. It was evident that he didn't want to say much.
“Then, can you take my friends and professor too?”
“No,” Simon refused coldly.
“Why?” she asked.
“No reason. If you don't want to go, then stay here with them and wait for your death.”
“Please, mister. Can't you take all of us with you?” she pleaded.
“Are you leaving or not?” he snapped.
“Take all of us with you.” Mauve was very insistent.
“Why, you!” Her determination rendered Simon speechless.
A flash of joy crossed Mauve's face. “Is that a promise?”
The rest didn't dare to make a peep for fear they would offend Simon upon sensing his oddtemperament.
Fed up with persuading her, he promised Mauve in the end.
Everyone wondered how Simon would save them from danger.
Simon turned around to face the alpha wolf. “What are you still doing here?” he snapped, his eyes cold.
A glint of anger flashed across the wolf's eyes. It growled lowly before suddenly jerking its head to theleft and right.
The wolves on each of its sides let out a loud growl and lunged at Simon.
Mauve and the others, including Matthew, watched on with dread. They shut their eyes and couldn'tbear to witness Simon's brutal death.
The wolves' feet were light and fast. They pounced on Simon, baring their fangs and pointy claws.
However, they were flung away just as quickly as they attacked.
In the blink of an eye, the two wolves flew back to where they came from and crashed onto the groundheavily. Their deaths were immediate as a large puddle of blood began to pool beneath their lifelessbodies.
The crowd stared at the scene with wide-opened eyes and mouths agape. They couldn't understandwhat had transpired.
One thing was, for sure, though, a sense of security had risen within them at Simon's presence.
They felt safe as long as Simon was with them.
The alpha wolf threw its head back and howled in anger continuously.
In an instant, the remaining twenty-seven wolves attacked in unison.
It was a terrifying scene to behold.
Simon let out a war cry of his own. The loud roar reverberated across the distance.
All the wolves' ears began bleeding, and they also moved slower.
Mauve and the others covered their ears as their faces scrunched up in pain.
Simon finally attacked. He leaped toward the alpha wolf and shattered its skull with a punch.
After that, he slaughtered ten wolves in one fell swoop like a whirlwind.
He was as fast as the speed of light, and his attack was overwhelming. There wasn't even the slightestbit of hesitation or pause in his movement.
Just like a bulldozer, he crushed and flattened everything in his path.
The remaining seventeen wolves weren't brainless creatures either. Seeing the situation was no longerin their favor, they quickly turned tail and fled. Shortly after, every hint of them was gone from Mauve'sand the other's view.
Only the carcasses of thirteen wolves were left at the scene.
The students snapped out of their daze and looked at Simon with admiration and reverence as thoughhe was a mighty deity.
It was within reason for a top-tier fighter to kill a wolf, but Simon's attack was too clean and smooth.
They realized the man in front of them was a pro.
Overwhelmed with delight and gratitude at surviving a near-death situation, they wanted nothing morethan to celebrate. Some of them began sobbing with hands covering their faces while some shed tearsof joy.
Matthew's eyes brimmed with tears as he thanked Simon earnestly. Simon, on the other hand, ignoredMatthew and focused his attention on Mauve.
Mauve met his gaze. Despite her gratitude for him saving her life, deep down inside, her fear of him stillremained.
He was too apathetic, and the hostility in his eyes was too vehement. On top of that, he was terrifyinglyruthless, and his background was a mystery. A man with those qualities didn't fit her criteria of a princeon a white steed.
Simon's brows furrowed, but he did not overthink too much.
Sometimes, the fate between two people is astonishing. If Mauve hadn't offered him a plate of peanutswith a smile, Simon would've never come to save her.
He understood the circumstance Mauve and the others were currently in. He had saved Mauve's life.Without his help, she and her group would have died in the jungle.
Noticing the crease on his forehead, Mauve grew even more afraid.
Simon withdrew his gaze and scanned the crowd. “This is Marlington. Miasma and poisonous insectsare all over the place. Many Marlingtonians place living parasites in the jungle. Leave at once, or you'lldie in this jungle sooner or later.”
Panic gripped the group of students. They would have assumed Simon was merely scaring them if hehad warned them before encountering the wolves.
However, they now viewed things in a different light.
They all agreed to leave the jungle immediately. Any experiment, field observation, or thesis wasn't asimportant as their lives. They comprehended how valuable being alive was after surviving the near-death experience.
“How are we supposed to leave? It's the middle of the night. What should we do if we run into anotherpack of wolves or other ferocious predators?” a man said with horror. His intention was apparent in hiswords. He hoped Simon could lead them out of the jungle.
Naturally, Simon didn't want to take so many people with him, but he knew Mauve would refuse if heonly took her. She wouldn't leave alone despite the dangerous circumstances she had been in earlier, much less now when she was momentarily freed from danger.
Mauve braced herself and stepped forward. “Can you help us get out of the jungle?”
Simon glanced at Mauve. After a short silence, he answered, “Nighttime isn't a suitable time to trekthrough the jungle. Follow me. We'll replace a spot to camp for the night once we distance ourselves fromthe wolves' carcasses. Spray the entire tent and surrounding areas with the insect repellent youprepared. I'll lead you out of the jungle in the morning.”
The group of students cheered gleefully at Simon's agreement.
They knew their journey and safety were guaranteed with a skilled fighter like Simon with them.
They hurriedly followed Simon's lead. Soon, they arrived fifty meters from the starting point and begansetting up camp.
Half an hour later, everything was set up. The students were well-prepared with tents, food, tinder, repellents, and many more.
Simon sat on a tree branch and watched them silently from above. He didn't approach the students, nor did he talk to any one of them.
The students and Matthew didn't dare to disturb Simon.
Their experience that day was too much of a roller coaster ride for them. Even though they had nearlypeed their pants from fear, surviving the near-death experience had turned the memory into the mostvaluable adventure they could possibly have.
At that moment, they were all chatting away excitedly. That is the nature of university students.
