I Am Unstoppable -
Chapter 440
Chapter 440
Thus, the trust between Jonathan and Moose deepened.
“How did you get here, Mr. Lawson?” Skylar asked.
Jonathan froze momentarily. Then, he told the truth. He opted to tell the truth, as it was meaningless tolie. He told them who he was, but he did not mention his regality. He only said he was the leader of thevampires who Leahra, the primogenitor, had recently promoted.
Also, he explained to them how he had escaped to Moranta and how he had separated from hiscompanions.
When he was done, Moose, Skylar, and Ducson felt indignant for him as they understood hisdetermination to return to the main world.
“As you are an esteemed guest from the main world, Mr. Lawson, we will help you,” Moose said. “Withus on your side, your return to the main world would be imminent.”
Deep down, Jonathan knew that Theos was similar to Leahra. As he needed their help to return to themain world, it was imperative that he built a good rapport with Moose and the others. With that in mind,he said, “Then I must trouble you to put in a good word or two for me.”
Moose gave a wry smile. “Don’t you worry about that.”
Skylar smiled as well.
Then, Moose declared, “It’s getting late. I’ll have the Golden Knights below set up another tent for youso you and your sister can get some rest. We have much ground to cover tomorrow.”
“Thank you, Mr. Moose,” Jonathan said courteously.
The new tent was quickly erected. The decor within resembled that of a room. Moose had alsoreleased a Fireball to raise the temperature within.
At last, Jonathan and Yeverie had a proper place to sleep.
Naturally, the pair did not sleep together as they had told the world that she was his sister.
Though they did not explicitly mention that she was his biological sister, their sleeping together wouldbe frowned upon.
Skylar also suggested for Yeverie to have her own tent, but she turned down the offer at once. Sheappeared to be heavily dependent on Jonathan, who gave a wry smile. “As Yeverie had just arrivedhere, she’s very shy and wants me around.”
Thus, Skylar said nothing more.
Later at night, Yeverie fell asleep almost immediately on the soft bed. “Are we safe here, Mr. Lawson?”she asked Jonathan before she dozed off.
Jonathan assured her they were, for the time being at least.
He did not say much else except, “At the end of the day, people are ultimately driven by their owninterests. All we can do is take one step at a time. Go to sleep. Don’t worry, I am here.”
Hearing those reassuring words, Yeverie fell asleep.
She was not worried. With Jonathan there, she was certain that nothing could go wrong. Jonathanmakes me feel very safe.
In the main tent, on the other hand, Skylar and Moose were bunkmates.
Before he slept, Moose asked Skylar, “Do you think we can trust Jonathan, Skylar?”
Skylar froze. He sat up from the bed and answered thoughtfully, “I think he’s trustworthy.” After apause, he continued, “Do you think there’s something wrong with him, Mr. Moose?” As he was morenaïve, that possibility did not occur to him.
Moose lowered his voice. “I can’t sense anything wrong with him, but his sudden appearance puzzlesme.” After a pause, he continued, “However, that doesn’t mean anything. What’s important is thatTheos would be interested in him. All we need to do is to bring them to her.”
“Do you not intend to help them return to the main world, Mr. Moose?” Skylar asked.
Moose gazed at Skylar. “That depends on Theos. We mustn’t concern ourselves with such things.Keep an ear out when you sleep. I have a Crystal Ball going to keep an eye on Jonathan. We can’t lethim slip away.”
Skylar frowned. “Jonathan is a nobody, after all. Surely there’s no need to keep such a watchful eye onhim?”
“That’s where you’re wrong, Skylar,” Moose corrected him. “We are here to replace the traitor and retrievewhat he took. However, there are many uncertainties in the tundra. Theos will be most displeased if wefail to locate the traitor.” After a pause, he continued, “However, now that we have Jonathan, we have anew opportunity.”
Skylar’s interested was piqued. “What do you mean?”
“Theos is on a whole other level than us,” Moose explained. “She studies Holy Scripture tirelessly andis interested in dimensional spaces and the main world. If Jonathan did come from there, his presencemight prove to be a key to unlocking the mysterious secrets for her. If that is the case, it would net us asubstantial merit.”
Skylar’s eyes lit up. “In that case, why don’t we just subdue him?” he said at once. “It’ll spare us fromworrying about his escape.”
Moose studied Skylar. “Things have already gotten out of hand today. Besides, the Golden Knights arenot ours to command. If we had gone back on our word and apprehended Jonathan, how do you thinkit would look on us? It would be the end of our reputation and prestige if they told Supreme Sect thatwe did that. Furthermore, you were impulsive to take an oath in the name of Theos.”
In spite of himself, Skylar flushed crimson. He knew that he had been rash.
Based on that oath alone, I could not have forced Jonathan to stay. If word got out, I would be expelledfrom Supreme Sect.
On the one hand, however, Skylar had never considered the possibility of his defeat. On the other, even if he did, he was determined not to seek trouble with Jonathan.
Skylar finally understood Moose’s advice.
“Well then, do you think Jonathan does intend to ask Theos for help, or is it just a ruse to await anopportunity for escape?” Skylar asked Moose.
“He is a shrewd young man,” Moose said thoughtfully, “though it looks to me that he has run out ofoptions, so he could really be asking Theos for help. However, none of that matters. If he does try toescape, we would have an excuse to strike. It’s a charade for the Knights, do you understand? It suitsus too if he does not. We would keep our word and take him to Theos.”
Skylar nodded, in awe of the true extent of Moose’s cunningness.
The night passed quickly.
The snowstorm continued to rage across the snow tundra the following morning. It was rare toexperience clear skies there.
Ducson extended an invitation to Jonathan and Yeverie for breakfast at the main tent, which consistedof bread, goat’s milk, and buns that were oddly delicious.
Even the bread tasted strange.
However, Jonathan and Yeverie enjoyed them very much. Food was a luxury in a place like that, andthey could not be picky.
Jonathan thought it was better to go with the group as they had decent food and shelter.
It appears I’ve become idealistic.
Having thought of something during breakfast, Jonathan turned to Moose. “I always hear you quotingyour Holy Scripture, Mr. Moose, and I wonder if you have it with you? If you do, I would like a chance tostudy it.”
Moose smiled. He took a sip of warm goat’s milk before answering, “Almost everybody in SupremeSect owns a copy, but only the one belonging to Theos is the original. Of course, you are free to readmine, Mr. Lawson.”
Then, he produced his copy from his storage ring and handed it to Jonathan.
The tome was bound in black leather. It was exquisite and very heavy.
Reverently, Jonathan received it with both hands.
Then, he opened it.
The opening passage was written in Ustranasian—an introduction to the relationship between the waysand the almighty.
Similar to the Holy Book from the main world, the volume expounded on virtues of kindness, love, faith, and the like. Also, it cautioned against many taboos.
Jonathan browsed through it quickly. Though he gleaned much of it, he did not come acrossexplanations pertaining to the main world and dimensional spaces.
Puzzled, he gave a wry smile. “Perhaps I’m too stupid, but I can’t comprehend the wonders of HolyScripture.”
Moose smiled enigmatically. “Indeed, there are many wonders contained within Holy Scripture. Manypages require deep study and to understand its ciphers.”
Jonathan instinctively thought of the ciphers of the Holy Book.
It was said that many prophecies concerning the future of the world could be found in the Holy Book’sciphers.
Jonathan was aware of the limitations of his intelligence to make much of it. Thus, he handed HolyScripture back to Moose.
Moose, too, took Holy Scripture with both hands piously.
Then, he placed the tome back into his storage ring.
While he was doing so, he appeared to have thought of something. “At birth, Magician’s Council willconduct an experiment on each of us, Mr. Lawson. If the Crystal Ball detects the presence of anelement in a child, they will be enrolled in the Magician’s School to study and become a Magician. Some would be placed in the royal institute, while others in the Supreme Sect’s institute. A Magician is
a wondrous thing to be. In wars, they are the deciding factors in victory, which is why the nation sparesno expense to cultivate them. I’m curious. Since you came from the main world, could you detect thepresence of elements?”
Jonathan’s heart skipped a beat. He had been thinking of replaceing out himself. However, his knowledgeof magic came from Torrence. As he did not wish to reveal the fact that he had met the latter, he nevermentioned it. Now that Moose had brought it up, he could not be more pleased about it.
“How can we replace that out?” Jonathan asked at once, interested.
Moose produced an almost transparent Crystal Ball. “It’s simple. Place your hand on the Crystal Ball, then clear your mind. If you can bring to mind one of the five elements, it will appear there.”
Jonathan nodded. “Very well. I’ll give it a shot.”
Moose smile faintly and placed the Crystal Ball in Jonathan’s palm.
