Chapter 700: Will you let me stay home alone?
Upon hearing Auntie's response, Yanis nodded and said, "Okay, then you can go back tomorrow. Just let me know in advance when you come back." "Okay," Auntie replied.
After Auntie left, Yanis didn't immediately go upstairs. Instead, she waited at the door for Zane to come in before they went up together. On their way up, Yanis told Zane about what had just happened.
After listening to Yanis' words, Zane only responded with a simple "I'll prepare breakfast these two days."
Upon hearing this from Zane, Yanis glanced at him and asked teasingly: "Can you wake up early enough?"
"Are you underestimating me?" Zane replied playfully.
Yanis shook her head and said: "Actually I usually eat breakfast at the studio where I work. Wendy prepares it every day."
Zane then said: "So if you're going there anyway why don't I stay home alone? Are you willing to leave me here by myself?"
Hearing this from Zane made Yanis smile but she didn't say anything more than: "Then whoever wakes up earlier will prepare breakfast." "Alright," agreed Zane with a nod.
"I'm going to take a shower first," said Yanis as she greeted him before taking her pajamas into the bathroom.
As soon as Yanis entered the bathroom on one side of the house however, Zanes phone rang on his end of things. Finnley was calling him.
Zane answered the phone asking simply: "What's up?"
Finnley's voice came through from his mobile device saying:"Kellan is selling that land in West City at its original price privately now. Do we have any thoughts on it?"
Upon hearing Finnley's words, Zanes eyebrows furrowed slightly as he asked:"At its original price?"
Finnley explained further saying: "Vincent and I were having dinner tonight when we overheard someone talking about how there was some trouble happening within The Marsh family which required them needing large amounts of money. That is why Kellan wants to sell that piece of land he has been holding onto since auction day for its original price."
Pausing briefly, Finnely added:"But Kellan originally bought that land for an even higher amount so he will still be losing quite a bit if he sells it now."
Zanes response was calm as he simply asked Finnely :"You are interested in buying that piece of land in West City, right?". Finnley fell silent for a few seconds. "To be honest, I had my eye on that piece of land for a long time. If Kellan hadn't intervened, it would be in our hands right now. And that land is very important to me."
"Even if Kellan needed money urgently, he wouldn't sell that land to us, "Finnley knew that if Kellan found out they were the ones buying the land, he wouldn't easily give it up.
But if someone else bought it in their name, then it would be a different story.
"Do you have anyone in mind?"
"I do have someone in mind, but I don't know what your thoughts are," Finnley said.
"Who?"
"Ivan."
Zane visibly paused when he heard Finnley's suggestion. "You think he's suitable?"
"I'll tell you something you might not like to hear: Ivan had some thoughts about his sister-in-law before. Now if we send Ivan to buy the land and Kellan replaces out about his relationship with you, then Ivan can come up with an excuse and make Kellan suspicious of him wanting to do something shady," Finnley explained.
Zane chuckled coldly. "You're quite cunning."
Finnley cleared his throat softly. "So what's your plan?"
"I'm not as interested in that piece of land as much as you are," Zane was straightforward with his answer.
He had agreed earlier to help Finnley acquire the West City property because there seemed to be potential for development there at first but after everything else happened later on, Zane wasn't too keen on pursuing this anymore.
There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds before Finnely spoke again.
"So what are your intentions..."
"Finnely, I can invest and help you acquire West City property but how we get it from Kellen is entirely up to you - figure out how yourself," Zane interrupted him quietly.
After hearing Zane's response, Finnely understood perfectly well what he meant by this statement.
"Okay, I understand."
In reality, Zane joining forces with him already made things easier than expected. Finney didn't lack ideas; he just lacked funds. Zanewas more suitable than anyone else Finney could replace.
With this settled, Finnie felt more confident about moving forward with their plan. After exchanging a few pleasantries, Finnley hung up the phone. Zane stood by the window, hesitated for a few seconds, and then dialed Albi's number.
The call was quickly answered on Albi's end. "Mr. Lawrence," he said.
"Still not resting?" Zane asked.
"Just finished playing chess with my father and returned to my room. Is there something you need at this hour?"
"How did things go with the Marsh family that I asked you to handle?"
Albi replied truthfully, "Porter Marsh is indeed involved in some shady business dealings. The Inspection Office has already started investigating, and now the Marsh family is trying to replace a way to fill that vacancy while dealing with significant financial instability."
What Albi said matched what Finnley had told them earlier.
"Provide more concrete evidence to the Inspection Office as soon as possible so that responsibility can be determined," Zane instructed.
"Okay, I'll contact someone from the Inspection Office tomorrow morning," Albi agreed before hanging up.
Zane made an affirmative sound before ending the call. Yanis had just come out of the bathroom when he did so. "Zane, go take your shower now; I've already prepared it for you."
Zane turned around and walked towards Yanis after responding affirmatively; she hadn't dried her hair yet when he saw her standing there waiting for him holding a towel in her hands. He took it from her hands and wiped off most of her hair himself before saying: "Why didn't you dry your hair first? It's still wet!"
Yanis stood in front of him while he wiped off most of her hair: "It's hot outside now; it doesn't matter."
After finishing wiping off Yanis' hair almost completely dry himself, Zane went over to get his blow dryer and helped Yanis finish drying half of it: "You should sleep first; I'll take my shower." Yanis said, "OK."
Yanis went to bed first, took the phone to look at it for a while, then answered several messages to the customer, then put down the phone ready to sleep.
But as soon as she lay down, Yanis got up and sat up again. Thinking of the trick the Old Mrs. Lawrence had shoved at her tonight, Yanis got out of bed and went downstairs. She took things out of her bag in the vestibule and went upstairs.
She opened the bedroom door just as Zane came out of the shower.
Yanis came in through the door and wiped her hair. "Where have you been?"
Yanis went into the door and closed it behind her. "Suddenly I remembered the recipe Grandma gave me. I brought it up to have a look."
